I am very disappointed with this residential. When my daughter came home she was the most depressed I've ever seen her and it took months to get her acclimated to life again. When I went to visit her she looked like she lost her spark completely. My daughter tells me stories of what happened here and I'm absolutely disgusted. I will never send my child to a place like this again. This place is a horrible environment to try and help a child. They do the complete opposite. My daughter calls this place the worst time of her life. Do not send your child here where they do nothing to help them.

If don't want your kid to end up in the mental hospital then stay far far away from here. I will never be the same after coming here. I have been to 4 residentials and this one was by far the absolute worst. I still have to talk to my therapist about my experience. I spiraled while I was there, my mental health was at an all-time low and they did nothing to help. I only started to recover months after I got back home and had my therapist back home. The therapists there are unqualified and completely unhelpful. You get no free time at all and while I was there for the first two weeks I was never let outside. I was forced to take cold showers at 5:30am because they refused to fix the broken shower. The undertrained staff cooks the meals that I couldn't usually eat because of how badly they were cooked. I am fully recovered and I look back on this place with pain and hurt. It truly saddens me to see some people completely invalidating the honest low reviews. If you truly love your child and want what's best for them then pick clementine. I went there for my first residential and it was wonderful. They truly help and have an actual chef prepare the meals. Don't damage your child by sending them to center for discovery.

Accepted Insurance

Center for Discovery Montverde works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

this was the worst experience of my life, my initial experience was alright at best but as the weeks progressed the horror unvailed, they on multiple occasions straight up denied help to those who were mentally unstable, and force fed the most ammount of food to the male clients and claimed we needed it bc we were male at the only excuse they had. never send a kid who is genuinely struggling to a place like this unless you want them to hate their lives afterwards

I've been in recovery for 5 months and 9 days now and i can't even begin to express my gratitude towards Center for Discovery and my overall treatment from all staff, therapists, dietitians, etc. Everyone i've met in the past 5 months has genuinely changed my life. Going to Center for Discovery in Monteverde was the best decision my mom and I have ever made, they saved my life. I'll keep it real, these bad reviews did scare me too, but I couldn't stress enough that the people who wrote them are probably struggling themselves and can't bring themselves to see the good in this place. Obviously, recovery is hard and it takes time to accept that. Yes, sometimes it can be hard and you'll have to do things that you never thought you'd do like be in a house with 7 other strangers who are also struggling but in the end it really is worth it. I mean this in the most genuine way, this place has changed the way I see things and I couldn't be more thankful. I'm happy waking up every morning in my body and i've learned to appreciate it and overcome things I never thought i'd overcome. I love my treatment team and everyone i've met along the way.

i wish i could give no stars at all, from what my friends tell me you arent allowed to stand (literally, they force you to sit wont let you stand) this place is hell. they arent allowed outside, my friend just went outside for half and hour for the first time in weeks and only was allowed for 29 minutes. they take away all the fun activities, force feed you, and not one person knows what theyre doing. i recognized when i was reading the reviews they only replied to the nice ones saying “thank you for being genuine” believe me this is the most genuine review ive ever written.. THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE!! they have to wake up at 5:30 AM EVERYDAY!! the time when you wake up has NOTHING with an eating disorder. i understand im probably missing some other horrible unhumane things they do but these were just off the top of my head. ive never been good at writing these things so im sorry if something doesn’t make sense but PLEASE take this review into consideration when reading.. DO NOT SEND ANYONE HERE!! THIS PLACE IS HELL ON EARTH!!

They weren’t able to fix me, so they kicked me out. But The support around me from the other kids were phenomenal. I’m still friends with them to this day and it’s been over a year. The staff do not know what they are doing besides one specifically I loved, TRISTIAN WAS THE BEST. She always supported me. I went to her for anything because I knew I felt more comfortable with her. The dining table was very awkward considering how close we all were together. I also look considering for your future patients that may be talk to them after we eat or do what we Gotta do to tell them if they were doing something wrong or anything because pointing them out during in front of everybody does not help. Also there’s a lot of competition for who didn’t eat the longest, in a lot of calorie talk especially. They literally talked about everything in a circle all the time, I don’t know how they didn’t realize. I think this place could be very great if they picked better staff and we’re a little more experienced and ways of supporting and helping us. I would also recommend not putting people on bedrest constantly, I think it just makes us more depressed lol. I also watch the nurse try to pour apple juice down a girl‘s throat because she didn’t want to drink it.
