About Freedom House Sober Living
Freedom House is one of five sober living homes operated by Granite Recovery Centers (GRC). Located northwest of Effingham, New Hampshire, near the High Watch Preserve, this sober living home offers a safe place where you can build on the lessons and habits learned during your inpatient rehab program.
Healing in the Woods
The house itself is a log cabin pressed right up against the woodline, stocked with everything you need to live and recover comfortably. This includes an entertainment area, a kitchen, a dining area and private rooms.
There are also three staff members on site at any given time who enforce the rules, offer encouragement and coaching, and help you progress through the program offered at the house.
This program mostly focuses on helping you reach very specific recovery goals while developing an ever stronger sense of self reliance, confidence and independence.
Network of Recovery Facilities
Freedom House isn’t the only GRC facility in the area. Their associated Green Mountain Treatment Center, just up the road from Freedom House, offers inpatient and outpatient rehab services. It can be a great place to receive treatment if a sober living home doesn’t meet your needs.

Levels of Care
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
Treatments
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
Clinical Services
Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.
