About Lava Heights Academy

Lava Heights Academy in Toquerville, Utah helps teens work through tough challenges by mixing therapy with creative activities like art, music and dance. Instead of just talking through problems in a regular therapy setting they encourage students to express themselves in different ways which can make healing feel more natural and less stressful. They help with drug and alcohol addictions as well as mental health conditions.

Team Up and Recover Together

Their team includes therapists, nurses and counselors who work closely with each student and their family. They help teens rebuild relationships, learn better ways to handle emotions and recover from past trauma. The type of therapy includes one on one sessions, family meetings and group discussions that focus on making healthy choices and feeling more in control of life.

What stands out to me is how much they focus on creativity. It can be a common thing that students struggle to talk about their feelings but they can express themselves through painting, acting or playing music and still get things out that way. The school believes that by using creativity, students can work through tough emotions and build confidence in a way that feels natural.

Keeping Up With Education

Another important part of the program is education. Students can catch up on schoolwork, prepare for college or even get ready for important tests like the SAT and ACT. The goal is to help them regain a love for learning and set them up for a strong future.

This clinic isn’t just about therapy. It is a place where students can rediscover who they are, gain new skills and build confidence in themselves.

This place honestly was a hard place to be I wish I had taken more from it it was hard at first because I didn't have a bond with the staff and the kids were very mean I personally had gotten into relationships with other females there and it was a lot harder to do my treatment focus on it because those relationships that I had gotten into we're not healthy the staff like Sandy Sharon Taylor keki Miss Katie Heather Jeff Ashley Graham and a lot others were very great people to have in my life at that time I personally did not take everything out of treatment there that I needed to if you are thinking of sending your kids here ignore all the other reviews because I was there for almost 2 years and the therapy was amazing they have very high expectations like completing your treatment doing good leveling up but the performing arts the visual arts the music making it helps a lot it helps you express your emotions through something that makes you feel a lot better the groups were hard but they show you how much that you need to learn to get better within yourself they do allow music they have MP3 players with pre-downloaded music you just have to be on level for them it is an overall amazing place they decorate for whatever season it is it's it never goes bland the holidays are amazing Christmas was my favorite they would take you out at 8:00 at night until like 10:00 and show you Christmas lights and on Christmas they would put together a stocking and what you have a bunch of packages that you don't normally get to have I am doing a lot better mentally only because being there had showed me how much I need to grow they allow visits whenever but my favorite visits for when people would come over during parent weekend which is where you would put together a bunch of art pieces music and performances two show your parents that you're doing the work and to show yourself to work through all of that trauma that you've gone through it is a great place for addiction behavioral depression self-harm and anxiety I recommend this place I would only give it a four start reading only because I didn't get everything I needed out of it but I know that if I had worked harder I would have gotten more than I needed so just ignore all the other reviews this place was beyond amazing

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Clinical Services

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.
