About Lummi CARE Program

Located in Bellingham, Washington, the Lummi Chemical Addiction Recovery and Education Program makes it their mission to provide education and treatment to Native American families who live in the area and are struggling with chemical dependency. They started way back in 1909.

They offer outpatient counseling programs and more at their center, which is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They offer plenty of services such as ASAM evaluations, referrals to inpatient treatment, intensive outpatient treatment, outpatient aftercare, relapse prevention, and much more that we’ll get into.

Gender Specific Care for Youths

Their programs are gender-specific, so they offer men’s aftercare and women’s aftercare to provide unique approaches to very specific needs. They also have a youth intensive outpatient group that offers similar support but catered to a younger audience.

I like that they offer adult drug court services for their clients who are struggling with any court-related issues that are drug-related. They even have support for youth juvenile clients who need specialized care for their condition or specific problem.

I find it very beneficial that they offer care for those who have suffered through domestic violence. Whether you’re a man or a woman who has suffered, they offer domestic violence groups that are gender-specific so that you can feel free and comfortable with sharing your experience and learning from others.

They also offer anger management groups that can help you cope with things that might be causing you to get upset. You’ll learn coping strategies and learn how to identify triggers. Finally, they offer their ADIS Alcohol Drug Information School.

Outpatient

The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Intensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support.
