The Clearing is a substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health treatment center in Friday Harbor, Washington. The program previously offered a residential treatment option. However, they are relaunching their program online for ease of use and at a more affordable cost. The organization accepts self pay and has an income based sliding fee scale.
Our family member was an attendee at The Clearing beginning July 2019. She had attended six 12 step inpatient rehab programs over the past 10 years and only experienced short term abstinence after each program. During the times she was "clean" it was through sheer will power. As a dear friend once said: "While she was in AA meetings, her addiction was out in the parking lot doing push-ups". Then this same friend recommended The Clearing. Several things struck us as different right away. Our family member was interviewed by the owners to see if the program was a good fit. Then, we learned that all participants start at the same time. They are on the journey together without new participants joining intermittently during the 28 days. Finally, this was the first place that REALLY looked at co-diagnosis. Other places gave lip service to treating co-diagnoses and gave 2-4 hours of counseling during a twenty eight day stay. At the clearing there was 120 hours of counseling. This is unheard of and in our hearts we know that this is what allowed our loved one to finally get to the bottom of her pain. Our family training is allowing us to better walk her new life with her and for that we are grateful. The post program support has made a huge difference in her confidence. We finally have our dear family member back and for that we will be forever grateful.

The Clearing is a TREMENDOUS program. I had went for anxiety, depression, disorganized eating. I didn't have a drug or alcohol addiction but it didn't matter. All traumas are addressed from the underlying core emotional issues. The program requires you to give your all. There is 6 days a week work, starting with tai chi, workshop, meditation, 1:1 counseling and more. You will thoroughly learn the process to uncovering your hurt and how to heal. The staff is amazing. There are no judgements, no shame, just healing peace. The grounds are fantastic, the animals are therapeutic, the food is out of this world. The key is to pour your heart and soul into this process, that's what makes this so transformative. You realize you have everything you need to heal right inside of you once you understand how to get there. There is support from staff and the other participants every step of the way. You are never alone in your healing. Make the phone call or text, ask every question, do your due diligence and you will not be let down. You are truly loved; from day 1 and long after you leave the grounds The Clearing is there for you and your family.

Encouraging, educated staff at the Clearing form personal bonds with every participant. The curriculum is advanced, for individuals ready to work on themselves and grow while they overcome addictions and their underlying issues. Be prepared to do a lot of writing, self forgiveness, and emotional release, this is not your average recovery facility in the best of ways. Information is redially available on the education and backgrounds of each staff member, with licenses posted on the walls of the classroom and inside the house. Individual counselors are skilled and attentive to each individual, with individual sessions scheduled throughout the week and move with the curriculum in terms of content and discussions. Individual rooms are comfortably fernished and welcoming, meals are prepared by professionals who foster a family-table setting environment, and provide unique dishes for varying tastes. (Vegetarians and Vegans are catered too and never go hungry.) Meditation and Tai Chi are welcome events of the day, with opportunity for physical and mental growth through relationships formed with the dedicated instructors. Aftercare is superior. Contact with past participants, those of your individual cohort, and with staff members is fostered long after you leave the facility. Bags are checked, but personal freedom is always #1 with staff members. Phones are allowed during specific times during the week, movie nights are savored, books are passed between participants with joy and contact with your authentic self is re-established. Spirituality is favored in parts of the curriculum, but specific faiths or denominations don’t matter at all. Agnostic people are welcome. Not to mention, The Clearing doubles as a sanctuary for retired farm animals that add to the experience exponentially. Goats, ducks, horses, cats, and sheep are available to feed and love. ❤️

Front office staff were warm and welcoming when I came to the clinic. The BH manager went out of his way to facilitate the care I needed and remained until my questions were answered. Mine was a positive experience and I will return when it's indicated. Thank you OakHarbor BH.

We hit a wave of teenage destructive behavior at my house and we didn’t know what to do. At first I put this facility in my pocket and thought things might get better, guess what, they didn’t. They hit an all time high that made me call at 3am desperate for help. Every single person I spoke to, every therapist, doctor, nurse, and staff member was exceptional. My son left 5 days after the blast of “this isnt safe behavior anymore”. It was the best decision we have made for our son. I would recommend this facility to anyone. Our son had a wonderful 6 weeks focused, re-learning how to live, re-learning himself. Can’t say enough about Newport Academy!

I absolutely adored my counselor. Danika is by far the most genuine, sincere, compassionate person I have ever had the pleasure and sadness of sharing my issues and joys with, there is by far NO other counselor I have ever been able to open to but her. The rest of the staff is just as equally amazing as she is. I have yet to meet someone there that I do not care for. I took my son's aunt here and from what I saw and witnessed this place is great!!! Ran like a well oiled machine! Yes we were there for a good 4 hours that day doing the intake but between the UA, seeing the counselor, and seeing the doctor we waited no more than 10 minutes in between the people she had to see. The best part is that she was DOSED THE SAME DAY as her intake!!! Also she DIDN'T HAVE TO BE SICK!!! The other clinic we called said they wanted her to be in full withdrawal! NOT GOOD!

Cedar Grove is such an amazing support system and the services helped me through my recovery really well. My counselor is hands down the sweetest woman i have ever had the pleasure of meeting and having as my support. The staff care deeply about each client and their genuine wellbeing. The assessment process isn’t really horrible and it’s only a bit of admitting hard things and then the groups are so amazing to be in. This is an amazing place to commit to your recovery, they will see you through until the very end and even beyond.

Truth speaks in silence. This facility genuinely was an undeserved kindness, that in retrospect I have come to an even deeper appreciation of. I found a home here that even years later is a place I know I can go to to as a soundboard for thoughts. This agency, staff and it's curriculum are worth much more recognition than the five stars Im placing. If you've lost who you are and are sitting in hopelessness and/or defeat because of addiction and began researching, you've found one of the gems in our community. When I moved here from Alaska I was without the shelter of my friends and family when a serious of traumatic events Happened in my life. I turned to alcohol for years instead of getting help. I was an active alcoholic ( meaning still drinking) when I started attending their group courses and was not judged for it but welcomed. I immediately felt a sense of belonging and being cared about. I began being taught about addiction, about myself like what is happening when I feel different ways in different situations and why. Beginning to learn to love and respect myself and others again. They helped carry me while I was learning to carry myself. Caseworker and counselor Melissa is an amazing woman. I like to use the facts that people can hold any certificate and degree, be highly educated and love their job, yet still suck at it. This person really does care about her clients and has a special way with educating the groups she is teaching. A way each person in there can relate and understand. Her ability to adapt (not be rigid) to her groups pending needs at any given moment when the course being taught has slowed or paused because her group or individual(s) had needed more time on a part of the whole subject is showing her passion and care for her peoples.Just an amazingly skilled and loving individual. OPG is obviously dedicated in screening and seeking out their employees. I owe this place my life.

One of the most beautiful places I have ever known that helped me find the courage and strengh to face the truth about myself and what I've been going through my entire life. The staff are nothing less than absolutely incredible as they hold space for real factual education with true compassion, understanding, tolerance, and a patience unlike anything I've ever known in any organization. In short, and for me, Olympic Personal Growth is a prime example of what it means to hold a space for hope and light in the human heart no matter how much you think you have lost your way. To every single one of you at Olympic Personal Growth, thank you with all my heart and soul for helping me save my own life, and for teaching me what it actually means to truly love myself. 🙏❤️✨️

Five years ago, I made one of the best decisions of my life when I entered treatment at a rehab facility in Port Angeles, Washington. At that time, I was struggling and needed help finding my way back. What I found there was much more than just treatment—I found hope, support, and the tools I needed to rebuild my life. The program helped me physically by teaching me how to live a healthier lifestyle and take care of myself again. More importantly, it helped me mentally and emotionally by giving me the support and guidance I needed to work through the challenges I was facing. One person who made a huge impact on my recovery was my primary counselor, Derek. His guidance, encouragement, and belief in me helped me see that a better future was possible. He took the time to listen, challenge me when I needed it, and support me throughout my journey. Today, I am proud to say that I have been clean for five years. I have never looked back. My life is better than I ever imagined it could be. I am thriving, happier than I have ever been, and able to be present for my family and the people I love. Recovery gave me a second chance at life, and I will always be grateful for the role this facility and the staff played in helping me get where I am today. To anyone who is struggling, know that recovery is possible. I am living proof that with the right help, support, and commitment, your life can change for the better.

I’ve been going to Discovery Behavioral Healthcare for about 3 years now, and my experience has truly been a million times better since I started seeing Lance. He is an incredible provider. With his knowledge in meds and supportive therapy plus his humor it has helped me become a different person. He explains everything in detail about my medications and the progress I’ve made under his care has genuinely changed my life. To be honest, some of the other people I have seen here before didn’t help, and I felt like I wasnt making any progress. But since switching to Lance, it has been the best decision. The difference has been truly night and day with my experience here.. He listens, and he actually cares about me. The building is a bit run down and smells funny, but that doesn’t even matter since my experience has changed. I’m grateful for everything he has done for me and I will continue to recommend him to ANYONE!! looking for a genuine and CARING provider who actually listens!!!

I have been to many treatment facilities in my life and have never found the right program... Until now. I am currently in IOP here and this competent and amazing team of councilors and peer specialists have worked with me in a way that has changed my life so profoundly that I can't ever thank them enough. This program has given me the ability to live the rest of my life free from substance dependence. I've never been happier in my life and I am so grateful to say, I no longer desire to be anything other than who I am today. Thank you saving me from me!

Alpine more than saved my life. I started going to Alpine before I stopped using asking for help and I got more than I ever expected. I got a new way of life and a new family. The staff goes above and beyond anything I could have imagined. They genuinely care about the people who walk through the door and are available and willing to help with whatever comes up. I walked in those doors broken and not believing I mattered to anyone including myself and with the help of the staff there and my program I now know different. I am not a bad person I am a good person trying to get well is something my counselor taught me that I say to myself every morning and have become to actually believe. So thank you Lynn Dee, Greg, Kevin, Stephanie, Dave, Sandi, Jessica, and Kiara for all being a part of my journey and believing in and genuinely caring about me when I couldn't believe in or love myself. I will never forget the kindness you all showed me in those dark days.

It's night and day how people are when they come in vs where they are when they graduate, I've had people say that about me and I've seen it in others. Of course it doesn't work for everybody and we all have our ups and downs, but this program is truly effective.
