Bear River Health of Boyne Falls is a substance use and addiction recovery facility located in Northern Michigan alongside U.S. Highway 131. Following the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) protocols, they’re accredited by The Joint Commission and certified with the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Licensed | Treatments Programs Payment Options | One year ago, I would start my day violently sick & wishing for the suffering to stop. TODAY, I am counting down two weeks to ONE YEAR CLEAN.
Maybe you're in the same shoes. Stay at an absolute bare minimum a week, it then gets much easier to claw your way to 30 days. Embrace the LOVE you can find on here. Be honest and unashamed. Say what you think, what you're going through, but more importantly LISTEN, be open-minded - that's how to get the most out of your time here.
The place is not bad/fine/good. You have a clean room, bed, and facility, showers. Some of these other reviews mention amazing food: this is no five star hotel. What do you expect?
For the staff, some have a little more patience and empathy than others, you can pretty quickly pick out who's been 'through it' and who hasn't. Advocate for yourself respectfully and you will be heard, everyone I've ever met there has been only focused on helping. But man... Be KIND. Kind and respectful and I promise you will get nothing but the same back.
It's not gonna be for everyone, that's your call. Some of it is tough love, but that's how recovery works. If you want help you can find it here.
I'm no expert; while one year is awesome, I still have my struggles - but I have the lifelong skills I learned with BRH to help me through.
I truly owe my life in part to Bear River, and ALL of the staff there. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!
I wish I could name names, but special shout out to my counselor and a few members of staff. Hope you know you rock.

Bear River saved my life, being able to not only recover and learn in such a professional and comfortable environment was outstanding. The main campus/hotel place is phenomenal and the staff was genuinely some of the nicest people I've ever met. It was an empowering and humbling experience being able to stay here and I'm officially a year and a half sober because of it. Thank you Bear River!

Wonderful councelors and director or the facility, wonderful program, and amazing help in the areas that you need to help better your life. I successfully completed their program there and it has helped me better my life not just with drugs and alcohol, but with effective communication, ways to deal with stressful situations and how to interact with people on a day to day basis. Will always recommend this recovery center. Its been 5 years since I've been there, and it's also been more then that since I've been in trouble or had problems with drugs or alcohol. Smaller facility but that just means it has a more connected approach to each person that goes there. Highly recommend to anyone!

My husband was airlifted by helicopter as pictured, today. He has been here 3 times for heart and trauma issues. Honestly, they triaged him immediately and ER Dr. Dan explained everything to me.
You must understand this is not a high level trauma center and they have to assess if you go to higher level ER. They have always airlifted or ambulanced my husband to Midland; a higher level.
I was here for a possible post op blood clot in my leg. They ultrasounded it and declared the cast was way too tight and referred back to the surgeon.
All calls made were accurate and they have saved my husband's life literally a few times.
Staff was very kind. Chaplain Laura took me in a room to pray with me. What a difference that small gesture made on my anxiety level. I pray Midland takes as good of care of him.

A family member was treated here. I went and visited during visitation hours. The staff I met were very kind. He had said the same. He got help not only with present recovery but tools to help him stay sober. They also helped him with his next steps like getting into a sober living. They inspired him to one day become a sponsor himself. He enjoys most of the company he had there. I enjoyed that Monday through Friday he would get his own personal phone for twenty minutes to make calls and texts from. It allowed me to send him photos to keep him involved. When I couldn't make a visitation they tried their best to accommodate and do a brief video visit instead. All around they greatly cared for him presently and his future. They even helped with transportation to the sober living. The only negatives were that sometimes you don't always get a very good roommate and theft happens. Plus the food wasn't always great he said, but you can't please everyone all the time with every meal when you get that many people together. I would suggest having more options during meal times though, possibly a microwave and some ramen or something for those who don't like whatever is served. Overall this place really helped him grow. I can't wait to see what the rest of his future brings for him and our family.

My son saw Dr. Dan Rauens and he was super helpful for my son with Autism, ADHD, and anxiety. I'd actually say that he was instrumental in the beginning of my son getting stabilized. He is compassionate and thoughtful and good with my son.
I have seen Dr. Becky, and was very pleased with her. She helped me to get some clarity and help for myself to process through some trauma during a very stressful period of my life.
Mike and the Autism team (Erin, Mindy, & Kelsey specifically) have helped my son to stabilize, grow, process, think, and communicate better. I say EVERYONE needs a "Mike" in their corner. He is able to understand my frustrations and then translate those into actionable, broken-down, steps for us to take with my son. He has been an encouragement to us when we felt like giving up, and I don't know where we'd be without his help, wisdom, and support. He genuinely cares and is an excellent role model for my son as well. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
Lastly, we've worked with Glenda for psychiatric services. She's been overall very good to work with. I'm guessing that she has A LOT of patients, though, as she often appears to forget things that I'd expect her to remember. Her suggestions as far as medications go have been EXCELLENT. And when combined with Autism therapy and counseling - have contributed to my son being the most stable he's been in his 11 years of life.
I cannot recommend Innovative Counseling highly enough - they have helped to save my family and sanity.
