Dr. Plumb has changed my life. There may not be many psychiatrists in traverse city but I’m fortunate enough to have DR. Rachel plumb as my doctor for 5 years now. I can't say enough good things about Kym Hansen-Duell. I have been seeing her on and off since my teenage years and can honestly say that she has helped me in so many ways I can't even begin to describe them all. She has been so accommodating with scheduling, quick to reschedule when she takes (much deserved!) time off, and understanding when I need to reschedule. With DBT and Kym, I am no longer "just surviving," I am thriving. She helped me find the me I was always meant to be and for that, I am eternally greatful. I do not recomend this place to any living creature. They let me go into withdrawal and didn't refill my scripts untell 3 days later. Then, they " released me from service for being rude to there staff! Isn't it dangerous and painful when people go into withdrawal?

I've been struggling with addiction for over 30 years and have managed to be free from active addiction for 5 years.
I have gone from taking 24mg per day of Suboxone daily down to the equivalent of 8mg per day! Clean Slate has helped me to manage my recovery so well and I'm going to be graduating from substance use disorder counseling program which is so exciting knowing that I've come this far and now I can help other people with their recovery! I honestly thought I found a gold mine, especially with finding a doctor of the same racial background and particular expertise... Well, I was wrong.
My initial experience with the receptionists (Hispanic?) was terrible. You never know who you're talking to because they don't tell you their name but want your info, and there's no name badges visible. The younger looking female receptionist should not work there. She's either bias or just don't know how to do her job. She even turned away a walk-in, African-American man during my very first visit, and he just wanted to set up an appointment.😐 The more mature looking female receptionist was pleasant to interact with in person. I didn't really interact with the older female receptionist, but she was nice from what I do recall.
The female nurses/PAs (both caucasian) get upset when you don't want to share unnecessary info, like weight, etc, or when you don't give them the answer they want. The micro aggressions were lovely to have experienced furthering my dislike. Dr. Merritt was nice and somewhat helpful. I only wish my concern(s) were understood more, and more knowledge was handed down, especially with one thing in particular, but I've lost all hope there, which is fine.
The communication here is horrendous compared to Corewell Health and Trinity Health.
You also can't access your labs via your patient portal. You quite literally always have to request an appointment via the patient portal or via call rather than just being able to schedule it yourself... That's a huge inconvenience. Even with your scheduled appointment, you're bound to be called in wayyy later than your appointment time. Also, I mentioned a medication on my first visit only to find out at a later time that it was never added to my health chart. Therefore, that would cost me another visit and another copay. Overall, not the best experience.
The male lab technician and female intake therapist (both African-American) were the best part of my experience... So, thank you for that.

I truly can’t say enough about how much the New Oakland Clarkston location changed my life. I came in during a crisis, and I left feeling stable, hopeful, and genuinely happy. From the moment you walk through the doors, you’re greeted with open arms—there’s no judgment, just compassion, warmth, and professionalism.
I was part of the face-to-face program at 28 years old, and everything exceeded my expectations. The group therapy sessions were incredibly powerful and gave me tools I didn’t even realize I was missing. My group leader, Kailee, was with me for the majority of the program and is genuinely one of the most bubbly, kindhearted, and knowledgeable souls I’ve ever met. She created a space that was safe, supportive, and uplifting every single day.
Niki, my therapist, is truly amazing—so insightful, attentive, and caring. Dominique, the nurse, is an absolute gem—compassionate, patient, and always there when you need her. And Matt, the psychologist, didn’t waste any time helping me find the right medication and support. He took my concerns seriously and acted quickly, which made a world of difference.
The staff here truly care. It doesn’t feel like “treatment”—it feels like a community of people who love what they do and want to help you grow and heal. The food was great every day, the atmosphere was calming and structured, and they even gave us breaks for fresh air, which made a huge difference for my mental health.
This place gave me a full toolbox to take with me, and for the first time in a long time, I feel ready. But here’s the truth: you get out what you put in. If you show up, participate, and commit to the process, you will see change. This team will support you every step of the way, but you have to meet them there.
What sets New Oakland apart is that their care doesn’t stop when you walk out the door. They set you up with a real plan for continued support—and they actually follow through. I will forever be grateful for the experience I had here. This team helped me find myself again.

You get out what you put in. I’ve done therapy for many years and this facility is great. I’ve only seen my one provider, but I would believe that every other provider also offers exceptional care. Don’t read into all the bad reviews, if you are on the fence about trying them out I’d give them a chance.
