What you need to know about Ranch Creek Recovery:
They accept health care insurance. Katie was great in helping me find the right healthcare provider and coordinating enrollment
PRIOR TO ARRIVAL:
coordinate which house you will be staying at (Bass or Dorrien), what day you'll be arriving, how you'll get to the program, pack a week worth of clothes including a bathing suit, books, booklight (if you plan to read, because all lightbulbs are the dimmest possible), and alarm clock (unless you like counselors walking into your space, waking you up randomly).
UPON ARRIVAL:
You will need to be dropped off (there is no personal parking or vehicle storage). You'll go through a search (appropriately, light pocket check and bags emptied) all electronics will be confiscated (headphones, phones, chargers, etc) and stored in a locked closet. Full inventory documented for all items. You will have up-to 3 days to DETOX as needed where you can sleep and rest privately. I personally got bored very fast and decided to join the group early rather than just sleep, but the option is available as needed.
ONCE SETTLED IN:
There is a 7 day blackout period where you are not allowed phone or computer use and can not have visitors or communicate with family/friends (emergency exceptions). There are typically 4 (one hour) group sessions daily, during which either worksheets are used from various therapy resources, or rehabilitation-related YouTube videos are shown. Counselors rotate based on internal scheduling. You'll have 1-2 private therapy sessions scheduled each week for one on one with Leena or Christine both are great to work with and talk to one on one. Meals are scheduled 3 times a day, residents are responsible for cooking their own meals and can "graze" in making snacks/meals as needed.
DEPARTING:
A close-out assessment will be completed prior to your scheduled last day with an emergency safety plan for sign off. A pick-up time will be scheduled, all itemized inventory reviewed with sign-off. an IOP Intensive Outpatient Program will be offered through RCR Ranch Creek Recovery and/or a plan for after care reviewed.
NOTES:
Phone use allowed 1 hour a day at night after dinner, following a 7 day blackout period. Group sessions can be "boring" lots of downtime, lots of staff turnover.
There are two houses BASS & DORRIEN.
Bass is the main property and where groups are held.
Sleeps 6 residents. There are 3 private bedrooms each with a queen bed (one has it's own bathroom, the other 2 share a bathroom), and 1 oversized bedroom with 3 queen beds, another full bathroom by the living room. big screen smart tv, L-shaped old sofa [over-due to be replaced], matching captains chair with footrest [also ready to be replaced], eloquent dining room (dedicated as an art space), enormous dream kitchen with separate pantry room, food shopping is done once a week with a list (residents responsible to cook their own meals), Pool Table, Ping Pong,, Pool (ICE COLD), Jacuzzi (turned on Friday night only, no lights), garage with some gym equipment (you can use during free time), and a large sunny well maintained backyard is accessible.
Dorrien is the "overflow" smaller secondary house about 10 minutes away. Also sleeps 6 total. 1 large bedroom with 3 beds, 1 bedroom with 2 beds, 1 master with a queen bed which shares a jack-and-jill bathroom. TV, living room, hot tub.

This is, by far, the best recovery center that I have experienced and heard of. I have been sober since I left Ranch Creek 3 1/2 years ago. They saved my life physically, as I was about a month away from being put onto the liver transplant list, they saved my marriage and relationship with our four children, and they saved me emotionally, as Dr. Dena was able to get some of my issues to a conclusion without me using alcohol to numb the pain. I do the work every single day, but I wouldn't be here without Ranch Creek. They definitely do it right!

This place has saved my life. The counselors, the nurses, the teachings (tools), and the environment were amazing. They were very patient, caring, and understanding. I learned so much there and gained a whole new self identity. After inpatient, they offered me an outpatient program that you can partake either in-person or via Zoom. That is so necessary and beneficial as well. I would suggest that anyone who wants and needs to get their life back or reshape who they are for the better to give this place a try. I live life through new eyes and with a healthy mind. You won't be disappointed.

Best call I ever made. They arranged a flight the day I called and picked me up at the airport. I was a mess when I got there. Everyone was so caring and understanding. Not only did they help me through detox, saved my life, but I was also prescribed depression medications that I didn't know I needed. They even saved my life after a routine blood test that found I was dangerously low on Magnesium. Without hesitation I was taken to the hospital and given Magnesium IV. I felt better than ever. They are true heroes.
The treatment places are actual homes you live in for 30 days then you move on to another home for 15 days more or as long as you need. This prepares one for dealing with retuning home and preparing for the triggers of a relapse so you can avoid the temptation. I felt like I had a true family with both the other patients (clients) and counselors. The staff really cares 100% about each individual. This helped in my recovery. As of this writing, I am 238 days sober. I've tried to quit alcohol on my own in the past, but failed. The program treats all forms of addiction and teaches us how to survive being sober. My favorite parts were going to the gym, crafting, and meditation times. I highly recommend this place to anyone that needs help. The key is to trust in them. What they say is important for recovery. Rules are firm, but they have their reasons and it works. You CAN do it.

Thank you La Vista! Very welcoming, with a very caring staff and great food too. I went into La Vista seeking sobriety, but left with so much more. I wish I had gone there 30 years ago. I am adding to my review of MFI La Vista. It has been five months since I left la Vista and I don't use substances anymore. I DO use the coping skills I learned at La Vista every day. I am getting on my feet and I am living my best life. I am happy, stable, financially sound, no legal issues, my man and I are better than we had been in over ten years, I am not living in fear of tomorrow, or struggling to survive.

The place itself doesn't look the most beautiful, but the staff here are friendly . just a shout out to Joecyln and tatiana sorry if I misspelled your names, they are the sweetest person/nurses ,always makes me feel welcomed there are no days they're not themselves and smile and acknowledges me . the intake is long be prepared to sit for 3 hours the first day with a counselor. after that you are in and out for dosing. i wont be here long but I will never forget this place and I'm on my healing journey just like everyone else that goes in.Tracy is my counselor and she is also amazing. only recommendation for the doctor is to maybe hire someone to clean the trash in the parking lot.

I came to California from Mississippi to get sober and this place established the beginning of a solid foundation for me. If it wasn’t for their staff I am not sure I would be alive today!!! They not only took care of me while I was there but made sure that when I left that I was also taken care of. Hillside will always have a special place in my heart. I can't speak on the hospitalization/intake part of this facility as I only did an evaluation and left same-day, but the nurses and doctor I spoke with were all amazing! All the staff were kind and patient, starting right from when you enter the building and are greeted by the friendly security. I came because no one else in San Diego wanted to help me receive the urgent mental care I needed due to not being an immediate threat to myself. The doctor gave me amazing advice and a stellar referral for a psychiatrist that treats through TMS and medication. I was feeling very overwhelmed by how much the mental health system in this city had failed me, but now I know exactly what my next steps are and have an amazing new psych in my corner. I've been going to North Coastal MHS for around five years and have had very good care. My doctor is excellent and caring and the nurses are too. Keep in mind that it's important to advocate for yourself so if your doctor/team doesn't know what's going on with you then they won't be able to help. I have and would recommended MHS to anyone on MediCal and they have many offices throughout north county.
