About Seacoast Youth Services
Seacoast Youth Services (SYS) recently relocated from Seabrook to Exeter, New Hampshire. They still offer the same services, but in a quieter location. They work with teens aged 14 to 18 who need help with substance use disorders and mental health challenges.
Outpatient Addiction Treatment without Distractions
All services are offered on an outpatient basis. Their intensive outpatient program (IOP) runs for about 10 weeks. Teens attend therapy three times a week after school. This seems to work well since it helps prevent falling behind in school.
Teens have unique needs and the staff understands that. They allow for personalizing treatment plans.
One parent said, “Fantastic program with open arms and ears with solutions.” It wasn’t just their child who felt heard, it was the whole family.
A Different Kind of Help for School Struggles
School problems often come up when a teen is dealing with substance use. This center offers an Alternative to Suspension Program for students who are acting out.
School suspensions are a form of punishment. The program here offers tools to help kids understand themselves so they can avoid trouble at school. It’s a healthier alternative to harsh discipline.
Families Are Part of the Solution
Parents and siblings deal with the fallout, even when they’re not the ones in crisis. The Child Parent Psychotherapy program helps parents and siblings understand how addiction affects them.
Kids get a chance to express how they feel. Parents learn how to rebuild trust. It’s important work to help put the family back together again.
Not Just an Addiction Treatment Program
Executive Director Vic Maloney put it simply: “When children and families are struggling and out of control, they really need someone in their corner.” The staff here works hard to make this place more than a treatment center. You and your teen will have someone in your corner.
The Seacoast Youth Services new location is about 15 miles from Portsmouth. It’s close enough to access bigger city amenities, but calmer. If you’re trying to figure out next steps for a teen in trouble, they’re worth a closer look.
