About Spectrum Health Systems
Spectrum Health Systems (SHS) provides addiction recovery care at inpatient and outpatient facilities across the state of Massachusetts. This also includes sanctuary community centers like this one located in Marlborough known as The Recovery Connection (TRC). While the general SHS network offers substance use disorder (SUD) treatments, TRC focuses on providing peer support, and access to community programs to help people transition from recovery to returning back to normal life.
An Immersive Substance Free Environment
For so many people recovering from addiction, finding positive ways to spend their time can be the hardest thing. TRC prioritizes this by offering a space to make friends, while also participating in social activities, group workshops, training and service sessions, meetings and more. Additionally, friends and family of people actively enrolled in SHS SUD treatments are welcome to attend.
SHS SUD Solutions
While TRC is more of a bridge service to create a comprehensive recovery pathway, people fighting substance abuse can still take advantage of traditional addiction care services with SHS’ other locations. Treatment is segmented between adults and adolescents with adults having the choice of either inpatient or outpatient programs.
Inpatient Care
I like that at SHS’ other traditional clinic locations, people struggling with active addiction can take advantage of detox services, clinical stabilization, and even residential treatment as an inpatient program. This support is provided to people fighting active alcohol and drug addiction.
Outpatient Support
As part of its outpatient programs, I like that SHS offers medication assisted treatment (MAT) and even medication management for people that require dual diagnosis care. All of SHS’ outpatient facilities support same day admission for MAT care.
Supporting Mental Health Needs
Along with managing substance abuse, SHS focuses on other behavioral health issues that may serve as underlying triggers. This includes courses that educate and provide support for partner abuse and anger management.
SHS serves not only Massachusetts but also other states in New England. This network accepts various Medicare and Medicaid plans, private insurance, and TriCare.

Other Forms of Payment
Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.
Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.
Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.
Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.
Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.
Therapists in Massachusetts offer individual therapy in a confidential setting to help you explore the complex factors that have contributed to your drug addiction. Using a tailored approach, your therapist supports you and utilizes evidence based treatment modalities to help you develop healthier thought patterns and behaviors. This builds a foundation for enduring sobriety.
During family therapy, the therapist works with every member of the family unit to understand the role they play in their loved one's addiction. By addressing these patterns, family members learn healthier ways to interact with each other and contribute to a more effective recovery journey for the family member who is addicted.
The life skills you'll learn in rehab range from financial management to practicing healthy self care. They help you learn how to solve problems and make decisions, as well as develop healthy interpersonal relationships – all of which are key to successful recovery.
