About The Opportunity Alliance
Formerly called Youth Alternatives, The Opportunity Alliance of South Portland, Maine is an organization that exists to help you through mental health and substance use challenges. You will have access to counseling, medication management, case management, advocacy, residential treatment and family education. What we value most about them is their 24 hour crisis phone line that offers help whenever you need it and their care for all ages, from children to seniors.
Residential Treatment and Group Homes
You can find residential programs and group homes designed to support you if you experience serious mental illness. If you have a child who is facing family issues or legal issues, they can support them as well. Services include support for those with mental health and substance use disorders. Insurance is accepted, making it easier for you to receive comprehensive care.
Crisis Prevention and Intervention
The Opportunity Alliance provides a 24 hour mental health crisis system with phone and mobile support. Their Broadway Crossings facility offers a short term residential option as an alternative to hospitalization. This quick support is a compassionate service that helps you stay safe and stable during urgent times.
Enjoying Portland After Appointments
After your visits, you can take a walk along the Eastern Promenade or relax at a local café downtown. These small breaks can brighten your day and connect you to the community. We like that The Opportunity Alliance encourages you to balance care with moments of joy outside appointments.
Support for Youth in Custody
Therapeutic foster care is available for youth in state custody or involved in the juvenile justice system. Their multidimensional treatment foster care program is excellent because it helps young people find hope and direction. You’ll find intuitive care that supports you through many challenges.

Addiction Treatments
Treatments
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Drug rehab in Maine is the process of helping someone learn how to live without the use of substances. Professional staff provide treatment to address the various issues of addiction. Methods often involve medication, counseling, and evidence-based therapies.
Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
