About Behavioral Health Network – The Village for Youth

Behavioral Health Network (BHN) is a center for mental and behavioral health that has a program called Village for Youth based in Agawam, Massachusetts. Care is provided to kids and teens aged six to 18 years struggling with mental health crises including concurrent addiction issues. Support also extended to young people transitioning from psychiatric hospitalization to an inpatient setting.

Short-Term Crisis Stabilization Services For Young People

The facility is designed to provide a secure environment for young people in crisis, with 24/7 supervision for safety and peace of mind. Clients can benefit from short-term therapeutic intervention services and crisis stabilization for urgent and disruptive mental health issues affecting the lives of kids and teens.

Specialized care is provided in various physically separate, developmentally appropriate units for younger clients aged six to 12 years and teens aged 13 to 18.

The Village For Youth and Therapeutic Approaches Used

This particular initiative serves up to 22 children at a time, all referred by crisis assessment teams from all over Western Massachusetts. This program operates in partnership with the Gándara Center.

Other services provided here include medication assessment and treatment services, intensive therapy, and support for family members in coordinating their child’s smooth return home.

The center’s Youth Community Crisis Stabilization (YCCS) programming also existed to provide psychiatric and nursing capacity to support young people with more complicated psychiatric needs. The facility as a whole was an upgrade and replacement for BHN’s former Community-Based Acute Treatment Program (CBAT) in Springfield.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Clinical Services

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is a structured way of helping those with major mental illnesses and/or substance abuse by bringing services directly to the patient in home. Instead of hospitalization or an outpatient program, staff members like social workers, psychiatrists, and counselors come directly to the patient’s house for treatment. ACT is used primarily for those with severe and persistent mental illness like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, some of whom also contend with substance abuse. ACT can be short- or long-term (months to years), and provides the same multidisciplinary, 24/7 staffing of a psychiatric unit, but in the comfort of the patient's own home and/or community.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
