What the Winners Have in Common
Accreditation: Nine of the 10 list Joint Commission or CARF accreditation.
Settings: Most list residential care and most list outpatient treatment. This means many of these centers can see a person through more than one stage of treatment. A handful also offer medical detox that may be important if you are physically dependent on alcohol or opioids.Â
Payment: All 10 list private insurance, most list military insurance and six of the 10 list Medicaid. A handful of programs list Medicare.
Programs: More than half list dual diagnosis care. This specialized treatment option addresses substance use and mental health at the same time. This matters since these two diagnoses often present at the same time and simultaneous treatment often has better results.
Location: The centers are based in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Cave Creek, Glendale and Fountain Hills.
How These Rankings Work
The rankings are based on the Rehab Score that we calculate on a combination of patient reviews, accreditation and licensing, how complete and specific a center’s program information is, and reputation signals such as business history and staffing.
A center must list substance use treatment and at least one clinical level of care, show a physical address, and be open to the general public to qualify for this list. We rank only one location per organization no matter how many locations they have.
Our editors screen every ranked center, and its parent company and affiliates, for license actions, patient-safety lawsuits and settlements, government fraud cases and credible investigations before the list is published. We remove centers that no longer qualify.
Programs for young people are included only when they treat substance use disorder. No center can pay for placement. We update these rankings every quarter, and our scoring methodology page explains each input in detail.
Phoenix Rehab FAQs
How were these Phoenix rehabs chosen?
The list ranked 319 eligible treatment centers in the Phoenix metro area. Eligible centers list substance use treatment and a clinical level of care, have a street address and are open to the public. We screen each ranked center, its parent company and its affiliates for several criteria including any recent or pending patient-safety case, government fraud case or license action. These disqualify a center from the rankings that are updated every quarter.
Do these Phoenix rehabs accept Medicaid or insurance?
More than half of the centers list Medicaid and all 10 list private insurance. Most of the centers list military insurance and a handful list Medicare. A listing is the starting point, not a guarantee of what a plan pays, so ask the program to check your coverage before you begin treatment.
What levels of care do these rehabs offer?
Most list residential care and most list outpatient care. A handful list medical detox: 4 of the 10. A handful list partial hospitalization, and half list intensive outpatient care. In practice, some of these centers can manage the first days of withdrawal on site and others pick treatment up from there.
