Cloud Hospital Inpatient Mental Health Unit

Cloud Hospital Inpatient Mental Health Unit is a hospital based program at CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The program provides inpatient, partial hospitalization, and outpatient behavioral health services for adults and children. Care is available for individuals experiencing mental health conditions and co-occurring substance use disorders. 

Treatment approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and mindfulness practices. As part of a regional medical center, CentraCare delivers coordinated care designed to support crisis stabilization and long term recovery.

Inpatient Mental Health Stabilization and Crisis Care

The inpatient mental health unit delivers hospital level care for individuals who are in crisis, feeling unsafe or at risk of harming themselves or others. CentraCare’s EmPATH Unit provides a dedicated emergency psychiatric assessment and treatment area created to help stabilize patients in a calming setting that is separate from the main emergency department. Many individuals are assessed and stabilized within 24 hours.

Care on the inpatient unit focuses on reducing acute psychiatric symptoms, addressing immediate safety concerns, and preparing each patient for the next appropriate level of care. Because services are provided within a hospital setting, patients have access to medical monitoring and additional clinical resources when needed. Discharge planning begins early, helping individuals transition smoothly into continued treatment and community based support.

Addiction Services and Continuum of Care

CentraCare also offers outpatient addiction treatment across multiple levels of care. Services range from partial hospitalization to intensive outpatient programming and standard outpatient care, along with relapse prevention support. Treatment may include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and mindfulness based techniques. Medication assisted treatment is available through the Addiction Medicine Clinic to help manage withdrawal symptoms, reduce cravings and support ongoing recovery in combination with therapy.
