Most of the “coaching” here is not provided by licensed therapists, but by people certified through AASAT—a program created and run by Doug Weiss himself. It’s a closed system designed to funnel clients into buying his books, CDs, and materials, which are essentially the 12 steps rebranded with new terms. Group “homework” is assigned from Doug’s own books, which clients are expected to purchase. The focus feels more like selling a belief system than providing trauma-informed therapy. Be careful. AASAT certification is not the same as a state license. If you're dealing with betrayal trauma, seek licensed, independent care—not a monetized recovery brand. Doug Weiss’s concept of “Intimacy Anorexia” described my experience with painful precision—but the healing path he offers was damaging and retraumatizing. After spending hundreds on materials and “coaching” (from unlicensed individuals in my state), I felt burdened, blamed, and expected to monitor my partner like a parole officer. That’s not healing. Weiss centers the addict’s journey, often at the emotional expense of the betrayed partner. If you’re looking for real support, I recommend trauma-informed alternatives: Helping Couples Heal Podcast Pia Mellody’s Facing Love Addiction Terry Real – Relational Life Therapy Internal Family Systems (IFS) Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) You deserve healing rooted in empathy, safety, and licensed care.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Programs

adult-program thumbnail image

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
teen-program thumbnail image

Teen Program

Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Participating in experiential therapy in Colorado brings awareness to the emotions and thoughts that affect your behavior. As you engage in an interactive or creative activity, your therapist will help you reflect on and analyze these patterns and develop healthy coping strategies to use in the future.

I believe that it is immoral to administer and interpret an MMPI with a client on a weekend group session without an established relationship with the client.

Update 9/4/24: The owner took THREE MONTHS to reply to my comment, and then tries to discredit me by saying they do/did not have an employee named Crystal. Which is exactly what the other reviewers said they would do, so I'm not surprised. Still disgusted though. If it wasn't your employee, as you claim, why do you feel the need to make it right? This also makes me more convinced that the other reviews are truthful, and that they are reviewing the correct business. Update: a $9.72 tip was applied to my account, the next day, after I posted this review. Thanks ✌🏼 I had an unpleasant experience at this place of business yesterday, and I thought I would just go ahead and let any prospective clients know what caliber of people you're dealing with here. This is called tip baiting. I'm a delivery driver, and I do a *good job* of it, I take pride in my work. I have a 99% satisfaction rate, I'm extremely careful with my customers orders, I am quick, efficient and friendly. I never run two apps at the same time. Therefore my customers orders are delivered when they are supposed to be, often early. At lunch time yesterday, I accepted a 44 minute/12mile trip for $14. I drove directly to the restaurant, I waited there for several minutes while they finished preparing my customers food (which I am not required to do), I then put my customers food directly into a thermal delivery bag (which I purchased, it was not provided for me), to maintain an ideal temperature for the trip. All was good when I hand delivered it directly to Crystal (mind you, it was early, 10 minutes before it was scheduled to be delivered, from my end), who is very sweet in person, but then... *she took my $10 tip away after I left* Which means I just drove across town, working for almost 40 minutes on her order, for $4. That's less than $6/hour, after I account for fuel and my expenses. Why would you do that to someone?? How would you like it if you worked for someone for a certain amount, and then they paid you less than a third of what they promised you?? She just gave herself, your organization and your religion a bad name. Be better.

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
Lisa, We're so sorry to hear that this has happened. However, we do not have any current or past employees or therapists with the name of Crystal here. Regardless, we would like to make sure this is made right. Please call our office manager at 719-278-3708. Thank you.

Very disappointing at the negative reviews if this place, if you leave when they say that you never attended their facility. Then find a way to remove them and discredit people as a betrayed spouse. This is very sad and unprofessional, especially in a Christian setting.

I would have given this place a ZERO! I saw Doug on Day Star thought wow he really makes sense so since the office is right around the corner and I was experiencing some PTSD with my sexual abuse I would give them a try. I called to make an appointment and found out they do not take insurance ok fair enough I would pay the 90$. When I arrived (early)I saw office people behind plexiglass. I sat down. Somebody approached me, and I asked if I can fill out the insurance forms. They proceeded to tell me that they emailed it to me. I checked my email and I didn’t have them. My counselor came out and for about 50 minutes I spilled my God about my past. She proceeded to tell me that she really couldn’t do anything. They had a program that they could email me that because I didn’t fill out-the insurance forms. They cannot go any further what a waste of $90, I will never go back to this place. So I did find my receipt.. sorry it was 95$

Response from the ownerInvalid relative date format:
I'm truly sorry to hear that this was your experience.

After reviewing your comments, I believe there might have been a misunderstanding or mix-up, as we do not have any therapists in our center who charge $90 per session. Additionally, we were unable to locate your name in our system.

We are committed to ensuring that everyone who seeks our help receives the best possible care, and we would greatly appreciate the opportunity to discuss this matter further with you. Could you please give us a call at 719-278-3708? Our management would like to understand your experience better and address any concerns you may have. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, and we hope to speak with you soon.
