Brunswick, ME | Mid Coast Hospital Behavioral Health part of a full-service 93-bed hospital in Brunswick, Maine. Their integrated healthcare network provides high-quality and affordable care for over one million people across Maine and New Hampshire. They provide tailored behavioral and medical interventions. You can visit this facility to receive confidential, h | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I just must give a huge shoutout to Dr. Bennett who was the ONLY ER doctor for several hours at MidCoast Hospital yesterday afternoon into the late evening. Yesterday, the MidCoast waiting room looked like the MaineMed ER on a bad day… so if you know, you know.
However, this doctor made EVERY patient feel seen and know they were important and that their emergency needs would absolutely be met. I feel like this dude was kinda a superhuman doctor because he DID see and treat everyone in what I would call, “record time” with the amount of people who needed care!
I know some people were frustrated about the wait, but if you have to go to the ER, chances are you might have to wait a bit to get seen.
Additionally, the evening Charge nurse and the evening CNA who were so incredibly kind to me, I want to THANK YOU with my whole heart! 🥹💗
Right before I left last night, I admit I got a little scared because a few symptoms came back right before discharge and it made me hesitant about if it was truly safe to go back home or not…
Ultimately, the CNA who told me, “you got this! You’re stronger than you think you are. Remember that.” And the Charge nurse who was just a few feet away keeping and eye on me to make sure I felt safe and then being my cheerleader when it came to the, “walking” test again, THANK YOU! 🙌
It was discussed that I may have to return today if my symptoms come back or worsen (I’m praying that’s not the case and I don’t think it will be)
If you know me and how complicated my health is, you know I do not normally post about my “positive” experiences on here, but I think this is important.
I used to feel…unsafe, dismissed, unseen and not taken seriously at this hospital in the past. However, now I can say with confidence that I DO feel safe if I ever do need to return and the level of care, compassion, empathy and the continuity of patient care has gone up exponentially.
Thank you, MidCoast. The kindness and equality for myself and EVERY patient that I witnessed (in my eyes) has not gone unnoticed. ✨

Sweetser is amazing!! I would highly recommend it. In the past I’ve used all that they had to offer. Now I’ve graduated to having just a case worker, Vanessa. She is so great and helps me so much. Then there’s my wonderful Peer counselor, John. He’s just awesome. He helps in so many ways it would take me all day to tell you about it. But take my word, he’s the best. And last but definitely not least, the newest addition to my team, Cheryl. She’s my Psychiatric nurse. Her and her right hand Ashley are fantastic!! They have helped me so much. All of them have. If you’re looking for a place to help you with your mental health no matter what your circumstances are. I’m sure Sweetser can help. And if by some chance they can’t help. Fryeburg, ME | Summit Achievement in Fryeburg, Maine, provides a special program for 13 to 20 year olds who are struggling with substance abuse or experimentation. This licensed and accredited residential treatment center is located in the stunning White Mountains region of Maine. Through the integration of classroom academics, adventure therapy expeditions, and | Treatments Programs Payment Options | Our 14 year old completed the Venture and Traverse programs at Summit this year and we as a family cannot say enough about the positive impact we experienced. In researching the program, Shannon from Admissions connected us with 3 families who had recently had children at Summit and worked with the same therapist we had been matched with. All 3 families quickly reached back out to share their experiences. We appreciated that Summit was able to provide adventure therapy while helping our child not only maintain her progress in school but also obtain additional high school credits. Our primary therapist Olivia was both highly skilled and professional. Winter expeditions were well planned, safe, and very beneficial. The students were provided top of the line gear and the field staff were excellent. The family support program at Summit is exceptional and utilizes the Parallel Process curriculum. The therapists, field guides, parent coach, academic staff and medical practitioners truly work as a multi-disciplinary team and the outcome data speaks to how effective this program is. Our daughter learned skills, gained confidence, and genuinely bonded with the staff and several peers. We are forever grateful for Summit and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this program to others.

My son, who quite honestly did not want to go to Summit at first, speaks so fondly of his time there. He always emphasizes how kind the staff is - the therapists, the teachers, and the guides. The weekly expectations for kids to reach therapeutic, academic, and expedition goals is a holistic approach and allows those who struggle in certain areas to shine in others. My son says the expeditions were fun, purposeful, and challenging. He began to feel confident again and his self-esteem was boosted. On the last day when his peers gathered in a circle and shared loving words about my son, it was incredibly moving. Here was a group of teens, all of them struggling in their own right, sharing such profound sentiments. I wish all teens have the opportunity to become such supportive peers and so emotionally literate.

Sending our son away from home when he was completely “stuck” in life with his anxiety etc, was one of the hardest things we ever had to do, and the hardest thing he ever had to do. Thankfully we put our full trust in Summit Achievement with Mike, Nick and so many of the guides and staff who made it the tremendously life changing experience it was for our son. He has grown into an amazing young man who is about to graduate college. He has learned to navigate life when it becomes difficult, so that he can move forward in a stronger and more confident way. My husband and I too learned so much about our role as his parents and ways to support him. Over the years he has even spoken about some of the tools he learned at Summit and how it changed his life. Sometimes it can be with humor when he is quoting something he learned at Summit but always with thankfulness as he has literally said as hard as it was that “Summit saved him”. We are ever so grateful for his experience there and the unbelievably dedicated staff the makes Summit what it is. Anne M
