About Norris ATC

The John L. Norris Addiction Treatment Center in Rochester, New York, is a state operated mental health care and addiction recovery facility. They offer high intensity inpatient treatment, including medical detox, for adults. Sliding scale payment schedules are available and no county resident will be turned away due to an inability to pay.

They specialize in patient stabilization and assisting people who may require a higher level of care that includes round the clock clinical supervision. Specialized programs are available for families and persons with hearing impairments.

They offer individualized care that’s focused on community reintegration and relapse prevention. Life and coping skills training are also included.

I like that their programs also connect clients to other resources in the area, like vocational training. They help people experiencing homelessness to transform their lives while addressing mental health concerns.

Certain conditions must be met before clients are eligible for admission. A patient at their residential facility must have no other suitable living option for recovery and must be diagnosed with a mental health condition or addiction disorder that requires 24 hour clinical supervision.

The staff was extremely helpful and professional. I stayed for 28days. The food wasn’t the greatest but it was alright. There were classes offered that helped combat the depression and boredom. The rooms and Bathrooms were clean. Anything that was needed the staff was sure to accommodate. I was able to connect with my counselor, whenever I need to. The only thing I would say was an issue was the separation between men and women. You are allowed to speak to the opposite sex at all not even a friendly hello. The women are escorted everywhere and housed in a separate area meanwhile the men could walk all over all day. One day I started doing my own calisthenics trying to exercise when I was told I had to stop because it was against rules for safety reasons. There was a schedule listed Every Morning with the going- ons of the day. Over all it was an enjoyable stay once I got past the initial Rude meeting of the director.

Accepted Insurance

Norris ATC works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

For many different stages and therapies offered during addiction treatment, it's essential to offer 24-hour clinical care in New York. often involves medication treatment for drug or alcohol detox. The withdrawal symptoms experienced during detox can be dangerous, but having medical experts on-site around the clock means someone is always there to step in and provide emergency medical care when and if it is ever needed.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient rehabs offer an intermediate level of care for clients who do not require the kind of intensive supervision and support an inpatient program typically provides. Many clients transition into outpatient care immediately after exiting inpatient treatment. Others enter outpatient programs upon completing detox. Some facilities offer ambulatory medical detox for clients who do not require hospitalization. Most outpatient rehabs offer a combination of services, including addiction counseling, life skills training, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Medical detox involves weaning your body off of addictive substances in a medically supervised environment. If you've become dependent on alcohol and/or drugs, quitting on your own can be uncomfortable and even dangerous. In medically assisted detox, a team of licensed medical professionals will help manage potential withdrawal symptoms, ensuring that you're as safe and comfortable as possible. This process typically takes about 5-7 days, although the length will depend on your individual needs.

During dialectical behavior therapy in New York, you and your therapist will look for triggers and patterns that are guiding your emotions. This involves keeping a diary of your emotions and situations and sharing this each week with the therapist. This information will determine what you work on in each session.

Men and women receive emotional support from their peers during group therapy sessions. These are typically people who face the same struggles that you do. This exposure fosters a sense of camaraderie and community while reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness that often accompany addiction.

Only stayed for 5 days before leaving. Phone calls were only allowed to be made with permission from a counselor who was never available. Only met individually once in the 5 days there. Men and women were separated, but it made things more uncomfortable than anything. Women are forced to be escorted everywhere in the facility while men are allowed to walk freely from room to room. Keeping women in smaller areas than the men and restricting mobility made the whole experience feel like a prison and was not therapeutic. Was told art classes were available, but upon arrival was told otherwise. Ceramics classes were canceled, despite have the materials available. Men were also receiving more opportunities for activities compared to the women. Some staff were rude and condescending. Especially considering the circumstances to wind up here you would expect to be met with more empathy rather than patronization. Hopefully they can fix these issues and offer a better program in the future. Some of the staff were friendly. The therapy dogs were awesome.

I sent my mother here for help, she checked herself out after 4 days. People screaming, no groups, no structure. This is not a therapeutic environment and would not recommend sending your loved ones here.

This rehabilitation center took me in and completely overlooked many factors. I wasn't searched, I wasn't urine tested. I wasn't shown around nor given any daily living essentials such as toothpaste, deodorant or anything for body care, not to mention shower shoes. I was shown my room by a client and I was then given food and my suboxone. Within the first week I had to find my counselor, and learn the schedule by asking clients. I wasn't given any phone calls or the opportunity to speak with my legal affiliation. I began doing my own workbooks to learn and work my program. AA provided me with reading material and a text book. NA did the same. The 'program' offered at Norris consisted of a lecture in the morning and a women's group following. Fellowships visited at night, in the meantime the clients.were left to a dining area and a bathroom with a small living area. The rooms were locked during the day and we were fed 3 times daily with a snack in between. There wasn't much direction or consistent counseling. I wasn't provided a treatment plan until 20 days in. My family didn't receive mail correspondence nor I them. The communication process with the public was nil to say the least. I also have discovered that my follow up care was compromised with communication after I was discharged. I'm extremely affected negatively by these actions. This place isn't for anyone in need of sincere help.
