About Salem Hospital
Salem Hospital (formerly known as North Shore Hospital) provides substance use disorder care through its Psychiatry Department in Salem, Massachusetts. As part of the Mass General Brigham network, they also offer several primary and specialty care services for people of all ages. They provide intensive and non-intensive outpatient treatment options, including MAT.
In addition to their SUD treatment programs, this location hosts support groups for parents of those living with addiction. Through these programs, they’ve created an environment where everyone can heal. This location accepts Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance plans.
Waterfront Recovery
One perk of this hospital is its proximity to Salem’s waterfront. Not only is it a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors, but it’s also home to downtown businesses and organizations. It’s a central point for many supportive groups and communities, and is easily accessed from the hospital itself.
Bridging the Gap
Something I find intriguing about this hospital is its dedication to bridging the gap between emergency and continuing care. One way they do this is through the Salem Hospital Bridge Clinic, where they offer stabilization and transitional support for those waiting to begin long term treatment. Their services mirror those commonly found in treatment (like peer groups and medication support) to reduce harm while they wait for treatment to begin.
What’s really great is that it’s open to anyone, regardless of what level of care they’re moving into. It’s an excellent addition to any other support groups and tools you may be using.
Partnered with Bridgewell
This location’s partnership with Bridgewell connects anyone treated for an overdose in the ER with a personal recovery coach. These coaches have had their own experiences with addiction and use those to boost your recovery. It’s another supportive program that’s great to have at hand should the unexpected happen, and I think it shows how much thought staff have put into caring for clients.

Addiction Treatments
Treatments
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Addiction is a highly complex problem, and drug rehab in Massachusetts is often necessary to address it. These programs treat physical, mental, and relational issues that are involved. Treatment empowers individuals to manage these issues without the use of drugs.
A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.
Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.
Programs
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
Clinical Services
In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
