About True Recovery RVA

True Recovery RVA is a comprehensive substance use and mental health disorder treatment program with supported housing. The main office is on Parham Road in Richmond, Virginia. They offer a partial hospitalization program (PHP), medication assisted treatment (MAT), recovery housing, a day center and court advocacy. They have an intensive program that combines all the support programs into one. The core service is recovery housing with the other services tailored to each individual. The program accepts Medicaid.

The recovery housing offered through the program is certified by the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences (VARR) to comply with a rigorous set of standards. There’s an emphasis on peer support with professional oversight by trained advisors. The housing is MAT friendly.

There’s a partial hospitalization program (PHP) for substance use and mental health disorders for adults aged 21 and older. The PHP provides a high level of care while allowing you the flexibility of being outside of a rehab center.

One of the great things about this program is the multiple services to help ensure your return to your normal daily activities. The court advocacy program improves legal outcomes for those whose recovery starts in the criminal justice system. The program provides trained advocates who help you through the court process. Advocates assist with document gathering and presentation and support during court proceedings.

Transportation is often an obstacle for those in recovery. The True Recovery program offers a comprehensive transportation program to help you get to medical appointments, court appointments and recovery events. A shuttle gets you to and from designated drop off and pick up sites for the Imagine the Freedom Recovery Center Day Center.

The Day Center offers group sessions, clinical services and referral services for education, housing and employment. The Center connects individuals with resources critical to their recovery while providing peer support and an empathetic community.

Work is essential to thriving. There’s a comprehensive employment support program that includes a skills assessment, resume building, job search assistance, interview coaching and workplace etiquette training.

Former clients found the programs to be life changing. They report that this place was life saving and helped them find a better way to live.

Still in services Sherri, Jess and Diana are my favorites they really take the time and go the extra amount to help you with your recovery . I’ve been to many different Recovery houses and this by far has the most heartfelt sincere team that I’ve ever been with . Anybody that has anything bad to say about them is probably somebody that’s not ready to be in Recovery .

True Recovery changed my life entirely. I could never repay them for lending me the strength and guidance I couldnt find in myself at the time. In just a few short months it was like I transformed into someone I was proud to be. I had more than sobriety, I had recovery. Internaĺly I was as rich as I could be, all while holding a job and paying my own bills for the first time too. I was able to do things for/with my daughter that I'd never done. It was an amazing experience and I recommend True Recovery to anyone. I am living proof that it works.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient rehabs offer community-based addiction treatment, enabling clients to remain in their homes while in recovery. Their levels of care typically include partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), standard outpatient, and sober living programming. Most outpatient facilities offer addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Integrative programs include evidence-based holistic therapies, such as meditation, music therapy, and massage. Facilities specializing in alcohol and/or opioid addiction may also provide medication assisted treatment (MAT).

Clients who are in early recovery, leaving detox, or experiencing a crisis often require the intensive treatment of an inpatient rehab facility. Clients in inpatient care receive robust clinical supervision, housing, and meals, allowing them to focus exclusively on their recovery while they stabilize. The primary treatment modalities used in most inpatient centers include extensive addiction counseling and recovery-focused life skills training. Many drug rehabs also offer holistic therapies, such as music, art, fitness, and experiential therapies.

Clients in an intensive outpatient rehab (IOP) benefit from robust support but often do not require the high-level supervision and round-the-clock clinical care provided in an inpatient setting. Clients engage in multiple therapeutic sessions weekly, with most programs requiring between nine and 20 treatment hours per week. Intensive outpatient rehabs provide a wide array of evidence-based services, including addiction counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, holistic therapies, and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

A drug intervention in Virginia requires careful planning and execution. Due to complex family dynamics, intervention services are often necessary to help families successfully navigate the process. An intervention specialist can help family members plan what they will say and then facilitate the conversation. This expert also educates everyone involved about addiction, enabling behaviors, and treatment options.

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers a structured environment for intensive treatment of behavioral and substance use disorders. PHP treatment can consist of sessions ranging from 6-8 hours per day for an average of 90 days. You can often expect to engage in behavioral therapies, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and receive medication. PHP treatment is often covered either fully or partially by insurance providers.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

When men and women in Virginia participate in group therapy sessions, they learn to freely express their emotions in a non judgmental setting. This helps you process your feelings and begin to understand the link between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are associated with addictive behavior.

Men and women in Virginia use individual therapy to focus on addiction related challenges as a necessary part of their drug and alcohol addiction treatment. Your therapist guides you in developing coping strategies, setting realistic goals, and building a strong foundation for an improved quality of life.

Trauma therapy helps you understand and manage the emotional and physical responses that often follow witnessing or experiencing traumatic events. Using therapeutic interventions, your therapist works with you to reframe that experience, which in turn reduces your anxiety and helps you regain control over your life.

Family therapists work with all members of the family to understand the roles they play in the addiction dynamic. Addressing these patterns is crucial to developing healthier ways to interact and support each other, as well as contributing to a more effective recovery for their loved ones.

Recreational therapy is often a part of a holistic treatment center program for drug and alcohol addiction in Virginia. It offers structured activities that replace substance use with positive experiences like swimming, painting, and hiking. These encourage social interactions, promote physical and mental health, and help reduce stress, all of which are factors that are important to help you rebuild your life.

Because some people find it difficult to talk about their experiences, creative arts therapy is often used to supplement talk therapy. This expressive form of therapy offers a variety of outlets to explore and communicate emotions.

They didn't involve me in my own treatment plan. They treated me like a cheak to them. Not the ideal place to go for treatment

I wouldn't be alive without true recovery. Before I overdosed in 2021 I had burned every bridge in recovery. Heard I was hopeless wasn't going to change I can't blame the doubters I had been in every rco a lot of times so can't say I don't understand the doubt. True recovery after hearing I overdosed took one final chance and with there compassion gave me the hope and inspiration to use the tools that I was taught. Now I am coming up on 5 years clean and a portion of that credit goes to them because if they didn't I probably would have died.

True Recovery changed my life♥️ I was released from a correctional treatment program in March of 2024, and was with True until May of 2025. In that time I was given the tools I needed to succeed while re-entering society and stay clean OUTSIDE of incarceration. I gained a lifelong network of individuals that still to this day check on me and keep me in the loop! While there was a high level of accountability and structure, there was also understanding and grace and always a shoulder to lean on. Days were filled with productivity and support and groups, and even day trips to Jamestown beach! During my time here, Diana was the women's director (now the Director of Operations.) She was and still is the best role model I have ever met for women in recovery. I have recommended family to this program and they also remain in recovery to this day. I would recommend True Recovery RVA to anyone, whether they are new in recovery or being released from incarceration and need a fresh start.
