About AA – Alcoholics Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) North Solano Intergroup is a therapeutic program designed to support sobriety and accountability with a satellite meeting group in Vacaville, California. This program is specifically designed to help people struggling with alcohol addiction to overcome their dependency, understand the triggers that led to drinking, and to create positive changes in their lives. The Vacaville support group meets multiple times a week at different locations across the city.
Fellowship and Accountability
AA is more of a counseling tool that works to help recovering alcoholics reframe their mind and relationship with alcohol. The goal is total sobriety by using the 12 step program to make meaningful changes to help participants avoid relapsing. Most importantly, an emphasis on anonymity can help new participants seek help more freely.
Diverse Meeting Choices
One note of interest about AA is that two types of group counseling sessions or meetings exist. Open meetings are available to anyone, including people who don’t struggle with alcohol dependency. Meanwhile closed meetings are reserved solely for people that want to stop drinking.
A Welcoming Environment
AA meetings can be viewed as a form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) since participants can share their journey. No one is required to participate, which means someone that’s just starting out can ease themselves into the experience. More importantly, the organization’s stance against judgement helps to minimize stigmas that might otherwise make some people avoid seeking help.
Collaboration with Facilities and the Law
Every AA group is managed independently and may have different policies regarding requests such as proof of attendance. However, AA welcomes attendees who are referred either from substance abuse treatment centers or even those required to attend as part of a court ordered agreement.
AA is a free to attend therapeutic program. Just know that individual locations may ask for donations to cover basic operational costs such as refreshments, rental fees for the meeting space, or even managing the online group page.

Treatments
The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.
Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.
Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.
