About Better Beginnings
Better Beginnings in Alachua, Florida, is an outpatient mental health treatment provider. They are conveniently located on Main Street, and there is street parking directly in front of the building as well as a public parking lot steps away.
They accept most health insurances but also have a sliding scale discount for those without coverage.
Better Beginnings has a 3.5-star rating. The glowing reviews mention things like exceptional care during difficult times. Clients giving lower ratings expressed concern that this organization only cares about money. I appreciate that the specific concerns were addressed by the company publicly.
Specialty Care for Pregnant and Postpartum Women
Better Beginnings is the first stand-alone health facility in the state specifically for pregnant and postpartum women. They also serve folks who aren’t in the perinatal phase but need treatment for mental health issues.
What I like most about this facility is that they encourage mothers to bring their babies with them to appointments. This facility has an onsite nursery to reduce childcare burdens on mothers seeking treatment.
Outpatient Programs in Alachua
They offer individual and group therapy and psychiatric services delivered in three levels of care. Their perinatal partial hospitalization program runs daily. It is for parents who are experiencing strong symptoms of OCD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders and other mental illnesses. Sometimes these are complications during pregnancy and postpartum.
Their intensive outpatient program runs three days a week for three hours each time and is also for perinatal mood disorders. Their general outpatient services are for any individuals who have mental health concerns. They offer individual, family and couples counseling as well as psychiatric services.

Levels of Care
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
