Wellness Recovery Retreat Center (WRRC) Review
I am beyond grateful for my time at WRRC. The staff here truly cares, and that makes all the difference. Their passion, kindness, and dedication create a safe, healing, and supportive environment.
Lindsey Singleton, Program Director – You’ve built a team of winners! Everyone here loves what they do, and it shows. Your dog, Xara, is a magical member of this family, and I’m so happy she became my friend.
Caitlin Draper, Therapist – Your insight and patience helped me grow. Thank you for your guidance and for the feedback on my baking skills—it gave me new confidence!
Aaron Lieben, Intern Therapist – You genuinely care about the clients. Keep soaking up everything from Caitlin—you’re learning from one of the best!
Nikki Geranios, Program Manager – Your hard work behind the scenes does not go unnoticed! You deeply care about recovery, and I appreciate you (and your adorable dog, Oscar!).
Michaella Lee, Case Manager – Michaella, you are an absolute angel. Your kindness, patience, and support made all the difference in my time here. You truly make people feel seen and valued, and I’ll always be grateful. Anyone who crosses paths with you is lucky. Also, I only got to meet your beautiful dog, Papa, once, but I’m looking forward to another opportunity to hang out with him when I come back to visit in May! ❤️
Kritika Kailash, Case Manager – I wish we had more time to connect! I hope your grandma and family are doing well.
David Pavkovich, Technician – Your goofiness and humor always brought a smile, even in deep personal work. That’s a gift.
Rita, Technician & Weekend Chef – I’ll miss our playful banter (even if it confused others)! You always made WRRC feel like home.
Charisse, Technician – I appreciate your insight and experience. Our drives to meetings and recovery talks were always meaningful.
Suzie Baxter, Technician – I’ll miss our late-night and early-morning talks! You’re the best cat mom ever, and I hope to see pics of your cats someday.
Gerry, Facility Manager – Our talks about Kona, family, and recovery were great, and your breakfasts were next level! That ham frittata was amazing!
Gina Garcia, World Dance Instructor – Your dance classes were always fun—sometimes easy, sometimes a challenge, but always uplifting!
Audrey, Fitness Coach – I admire your dedication! Your workouts were perfectly balanced—not too easy, not too hard, but I felt them for days!
August Materazzi, Chef – Your food is healthy, delicious, and well-planned for every dietary need (including my dislike of mushrooms!). You’re a fantastic chef.
Gary Johnson, Engineer – We all appreciate your hard work around the house. Hope to run into you in Hawai‘i someday! You should definitely visit Volcanoes National Park again.
Cheree Ashley, WRRC Owner
Thank you for helping me get to WRRC! Even though I planned on Avila Heights, I’m so grateful for this experience. Congratulations on adding WRRC to your program portfolio! I have to say—I’m extremely impressed with the team here. The staff is outstanding, and I hope you can give them all raises soon because they truly deserve it. They are some of the most dedicated professionals in the field.
To Those Seeking Recovery:
WRRC isn’t just a treatment center—it’s a family. The staff loves what they do, and that makes the experience 100x better. Their kindness, patience, and dedication create an environment where you feel truly cared for. If you need a place to heal, this is it.
Leaving is bittersweet, but I do so with immense gratitude. Thank you, WRRC, for giving me the tools, strength, and hope to move forward. I will always hold this place close to my heart.

I had been losing my battle with recovery for almost fifteen years when Wellness Retreat was recommended to me. I came here severely addicted and further traumatized by what I put myself and my family through. I needed a place where I would be treated with dignity, individually recognized for what has been ailing me and personally encouraged. This what I found here, and with a genuine compassion I have never seen or felt as an addict. There is an exceptional quality here, from checkng-in through medical treatment, group processing, education, abundance of nutrition, therapy excercise, wellness and technical assistance. With a maximum of five other clients to go through the recovery process with, the Directors of the program and even the CEO rolled up their sleeves personally caring for my recovery process. For the first time in my life since I was introduced to substances I don't hate life without them. It has been almost five months since I left wellness Retreat and I still go back on Monday afternoons to join the dance classes that gave me so much hope and happiness when I was feeling so low and dark in the beginning. This is more than a Rehab, this is a Wellness Center. If you want a life worth living without drugs and alcohol, start here.

Using the VA hospital system in any city, state is not the same. I had to move around to couch surf and homeless for over ten years ending up in states between California and Florida including Washington and Utah. I have had to restart everything over every time I moved and I learned a few things over those 10 years about doctor appointments and different appointments for eyes and blood work so let me begin by saying that if you show up at 10 am and it's not busy or 1 pm and it's a mad house, either way just tell them that you are using the VA transportation and you are on a scheduled pickup and they usually move you through pretty quickly.
I can't say it's foolproof but it's a little bit of an edge for those complaining about long waiting for blood work. Just remember, don't set the bar too high of expectation, you get what you pay for, and if you don't like the VA then just pay for private health care.
Oh, they get complaints but nothing like the VA hospital system.

San Jose, California | Silicon Valley Recovery is a private addiction treatment center for adults in San Jose, California. They provide medical detox, residential treatment, and aftercare support. They also offer gender-separate programs and specialized programs for members of the LGBTQ+ community, and people with co-occurring addiction and mental illness. Silicon Valley | Programs Payment Options | My stay at SVR was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for my life. From the first day to the last, I felt completely comfortable and supported. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure every need is met. The CEO, Sonja, personally connects with everyone, which really shows how much she cares. You can tell that the medical team, techs, therapists, and counselors truly love what they do. There’s a perfect balance of therapy, fun activities, and downtime.
The activities offered, such as weekly horse therapy, yoga, and sound baths complement the group and individual therapy sessions, making the experience truly holistic. The food was great—fresh, healthy, and always satisfying—and the rooms were cozy, clean, and comfortable, creating a peaceful environment to heal and recharge.
I also made some amazing friends during my time there, people who truly understood what I was going through and supported me every step of the way. Having never been to treatment before, I didn’t know what to expect, but SVR far exceeded anything I could have imagined. The environment is light, positive, and genuinely uplifting.

My time at Silicon Valley Recovery (SVR) was nothing short of life changing. I know that sounds like an exaggeration, but I truly learned so much about myself and my substance abuse.
The entire team there are passionate and genuine in the care they provide to the incoming clients, I was easily able to settle in and focus on what I needed to work on. The facility feels like a comfortable home, the food is great, and I'll miss the Bevi machines. The staff make sure to work on your case (e.g., FMLA), and truly allow you to rest as you recover. The Incidental Medicine Services (IMS) staff are also extremely thoughtful and go above and beyond. Besides this, you meet a diverse group of clients (a.k.a. other people in recovery), that help you learn and grow and broaden your sober community. The therapies provided allow you an outlet for your thoughts and feelings as well as provide tools to use to better your approach to sobriety. The sampling of meetings (off site) you attend help you to see what flavors of meetings exist in the community (AA, NA,CMA, CODA). SVR also does an fantastic job with keeping in touch with alumni and coordinate in-person and virtual alumni/client meetings.
I would highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend SVR to anyone looking to work on their substance abuse recovery. SVR will always have a special place in my heart.

SVR truly changed my life. The thing that stuck out most to me was how caring and compassionate that staff was starting with the CEO, Sonja. Everyone there genuinely cares about you and does their best to help you feel comfortable and safe and accommodate whatever personal needs you have.
I did not originally come here entirely on my own (lots of external pressure) and had thoughts of leaving at first. I am beyond grateful that I didn’t.
Once I detoxed and mental clarity returned, I started to listen and engage with the program they have put together and I feel like a genuinely better person for it. Most of the staff are also in recovery themselves and that made a huge difference for me; they understand on a personal level and are beyond supportive.
By participating in the program and truly being honest with myself, I’ve reoriented my mind in how I view my relationship with
alcohol which is something I never thought would happen. I had totally given up on myself and was resigned to my addiction. SVR gives you the tools and support to change the way you think about your DOC and most importantly yourself. I feel optimistic and hopeful about my life for the first time in many years after my time there.
As far as services, I didn’t find anything lacking. All the rooms and facilities were very clean and well kept. They have an attentive 24/7 medical staff onsite, a personal chef that prepares 3 (delicious) meals a day throughout the week, gym with a pool/sauna 3 times a week, equine therapy, and weekend outings doing fun things like Top Golf, hikes, the beach, etc. They even have someone come in to give everyone haircuts every couple of weeks. You also get your cellphone during the day after 10 days, and have landlines for you to use freely whenever you want between 8am and 1030pm to stay in touch.
If you are reading this and are considering checking in yourself or a loved one, I highly, highly encourage you to do so if you have the ability to. It may be one of the hardest decisions you make in life but it will also be one of the best. Hope still exists. I thought it didn’t for me but my time here completely changed my perspective on things. Make the phone call! You will thank yourself for it.

I've been volunteering at the San Jose Women's Center for the last seven years. I'm humbled by the work God is doing within this incredible organization. I'm usually there twice a month and able to meet their students and work with the staff. In doing so, I've been able to get to know many of them. They've shared heart breaking stories of the bad habits which have nearly destroyed their lives. However, if they can survive the first few months (the hardest part of the program!) their spiritual souls are revived and they begin to live in hope with a new perspective that transforms their minds to overcome the addictions which have chained them. It's hard to explain, but each time I visit and get an update from them, I can see the power of God at work. It's what keeps bringing me back to serve so I can witness the miracles and encourage these ladies not to give up. If they can hang in there, Teen Challenge will teach them not only what they need to survive, but to thrive in a life after addiction. Every year I return to their annual Galas and am reunited with former students who update me on their successes and how grateful they are for staying the course and trusting God through the process. Our Lord has rewarded them, and often times they tell me that they thought they knew who God was when they entered, but during the course of the program they truly find Him and their life hasn't been the same since! I have no idea how the staff has the capacity to love, extend grace, share their wisdom, and encourage so many women with all that happens at this center; but it's inspiring to know that they can do it with the help of God. When I come across difficult situations in my own life, I just remember the tough love and grace of God from the Teen Challenge staff members and I try emulate the same with the people I encounter. Life in the Center isn't easy, but the year commitment to the program is worth it. I've witnessed it on a regular basis and I thank God this program exists to help those overcoming addictions, and for those of us who want to volunteer and make the world a better place. It takes faith and discipline to succeed, but Teen Challenge has the love and patience to see you through. I highly recommend this organization over many of the other rehab places who have a far less success rate.

I came hear a few years ago and I owe a personal apology to the staff and manager here. I forgot his name now but I hope he still works here. I was very confused and angry when I got there. I felt like I was being punished, for not doing enough to stay safe, for not being able to handle my shame and trauma, for telling the truth to my therapist and for her making me go to a residentiali. The first place because of that. I felt like all my privileges were being taken away, unfairly. I convinced my mom to take me out of there, but the truth is, I really did need the help there. I went to more residentials after that and I noticed that this one had the best resources for me. I lost the opportunity to get better once I left. The staff were wonderful and understanding even when I was being, in my own words, honestly annoying. I hope they remember me, I hope they see this and know that they're doing amazing work, I hope you know I'm sorry. I am a lot better now, after 2 years of going in and out of therapy, in patient and out, and life or death situations. Things could've been different if I stayed. Still im grateful for coming here in the first place. Thank you.

Castlerock Recovery offers a comprehensive and compassionate approach to rehabilitation, making it a noteworthy option for those seeking help with addiction. The facility is well-maintained and provides a warm, welcoming atmosphere that immediately puts clients at ease.
One of the standout features of Castlerock is its highly trained staff, who are not only professionals in their fields but also demonstrate genuine care for each individual's journey. The personalized treatment plans are tailored to meet the specific needs of clients, which enhances the effectiveness of the recovery process.
The variety of therapy options is impressive, including group sessions, individual counseling, and holistic therapies. This well-rounded approach addresses not just the physical aspects of addiction but also the emotional and psychological components, promoting a more complete healing process.
Additionally, the program emphasizes community and support, encouraging clients to build connections with one another. This sense of camaraderie can be incredibly beneficial, as it fosters understanding and shared experiences among participants.
While the cost may be a consideration for some, many clients have reported that the value of the care they receive significantly outweighs the expense. Overall, Castlerock Recovery is a commendable choice for anyone looking for a supportive and effective environment to overcome addiction.

The treatment is very therapy intensive (individual and group) followed with very occasional visits to the psychiatrist. This model in my opinion is much better then the system that got me dependent as I used to only see the psychiatrist who only prescribes.
If you join the program they will teach you very useful techniques such as SPARROW, DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), getting involved with dependency/addiction groups, and creating a strong support network. If you are dependent expect 2-3 weeks where this is a full time job followed by 10 hours for 4 - 16 weeks.
All in all you are getting about 200+ hours of therapy which at current therapist rates of $200/hour equals about $40K in treatment. If you are a Kaiser patient I highly recommend it. Can't thank the staff enough

I can't express how grateful I am to Kaiser Permanente and CDRP on the great help they provided to my child, and my family ultimately.
While at first I was disoriented by their response, I've come to realize that they are very dedicated, knowledgeable, and accomplishing wonders with the resources available to them, which are not illimited. Hopefully Kaiser will be able to invest more but meanwhile, Kudos to Dr. Saul and the rest of the staff!
