I came hear a few years ago and I owe a personal apology to the staff and manager here. I forgot his name now but I hope he still works here. I was very confused and angry when I got there. I felt like I was being punished, for not doing enough to stay safe, for not being able to handle my shame and trauma, for telling the truth to my therapist and for her making me go to a residentiali. The first place because of that. I felt like all my privileges were being taken away, unfairly. I convinced my mom to take me out of there, but the truth is, I really did need the help there. I went to more residentials after that and I noticed that this one had the best resources for me. I lost the opportunity to get better once I left. The staff were wonderful and understanding even when I was being, in my own words, honestly annoying. I hope they remember me, I hope they see this and know that they're doing amazing work, I hope you know I'm sorry. I am a lot better now, after 2 years of going in and out of therapy, in patient and out, and life or death situations. Things could've been different if I stayed. Still im grateful for coming here in the first place. Thank you.

I attended CFD in 2011 as an adolescent. I’m lucky I had the privilege to rehabilitate here. Of course while I was 16 and 17 years old I hated everything. My freedom was taken away and everything was very regimented. But in hindsight I see the purpose for it all. CFD was the only thing that worked for me long term in healing my eating disorder. This program is excellent and I highly recommend to parents with children struggling with an eating disorder that has taken over their life. I was lucky I had great staff members who really cared about my healing. Dr. A was my main doctor and she is a gifted provider. I’ll never forget her.

Been coming here for a long, long time Through my recovery I have had many counselors some better than others funny how things happen my husband transferred to Medmark from BAART in Oakland crazy we both ended up on Rich’s case load { R.I.P. Best curb I got kicked to { so to speak. } which is currently Nicole Martinez, the best I’ve ever had , She definitely help me get to where I am now she goes above and beyond helped me in my life so much, I don’t even know what I’m gonna do when we goes our separate ways 😔..I wish I can take her with me. I've been going to the BAART clinic in Antioch, CA for nearly 8 hrs and absolutely love the program. So much so I got my BFF to get treatment there and she also lives it and is so glad she took the initiative to go there and like me has found relief from the bandage of addiction. I've had a few counselors and love them all. It is like a big family there from the counselors to the dispensing nurses and all the patients. All the patients know each other and support each other. You feel very safe & supported in their relaxed, chill & friendly environment. I would recommend it to anyone experiencing the bondage of addiction. Bcz now instead of the stress of finding opiates and fear of not having them and facing withdrawal now i just take my dose in the morning and don't even think about opiates the rest of the day. Opiate addiction can be an all consuming full time job in which your entire life revolves around getting enough opiates fearing running out and the absolute misery of withdrawal. when you can't get them. But going to BAART has gotten me off that hammster wheel so I can enjoy my life without having to even think about opiates anymore. If you in bondage to opiate addiction do yourself a favor and FREE yourself by going to BAART and start truly livingb& enjoying your life.

This place has a bad reputation, I understand. However, I’ve seen it help several people that actually wanted the help and used the program properly. There is several key words in this comment that are necessary and down right vital in order for the clinic to work the way it was intended. I recently completed treatment at Cliffside Malibu, and I can say without hesitation that it is one of the most clinically sophisticated and compassionate programs in the country. When I first called, Admissions told me they were ranked #1 in the state — and after experiencing the quality of care firsthand, I understand exactly why. The program not only met those expectations, it surpassed them.
From day one, the clinical team demonstrated a level of expertise, structure, and individualized attention that I’ve never seen anywhere else. Every therapist, every group, every touchpoint felt intentional and grounded in evidence-based care. You can feel how much time and thought goes into their curriculum and how deeply the staff understands trauma, addiction, and whole-person recovery.
What stood out the most was how aligned the entire team is — admissions, nursing, therapists, case management, and operations all move in the same direction. There’s a sense of steadiness and professionalism in everything they do. I never felt like “just another client.” They knew my history, tracked my progress, and actively worked with me to rebuild structure, tools, and long-term stability.
Cliffside creates an environment where safety, dignity, and real clinical work can happen. It’s not just beautiful — it’s purpose-built for healing.
If you’re looking for a program with depth, integrity, and proven outcomes, Cliffside Malibu absolutely lives up to its reputation. I’m grateful for the care I received, and I would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone who truly wants to change their life.

Working with Riviera Living has been an absolute pleasure for me. I have truly enjoyed leading wellness and movement sessions for the residents — their enthusiasm, openness, and warmth create such a beautiful energy in every class. My disabled but independent son has been at Riviera living for over a year now. Riviera has a medication room; Pedro is very good at making sure my son takes his medication twice a day. They re-order his medication when needed and have it mailed to the facility. They have a cafeteria that cooks really hearty homestyle meals three times a day and snacks in between.
The housekeeper Susan is very aware of everyone that comes and goes. She cleans each room once a week and is like a Mom to the residents. One attendant- Elizabeth saved my son's life when she noticed he was acting strangely and followed him to his room where he had collapsed and was not breathing well. She called an ambulance.
Overall, I think that the staff are very vigilant but overworked. I think that they should hire more attendants so there is always at least 2 at a time in each house, even at night. I think it would be better if they opened a cafeteria in each home so that the residents don't have to cross the street to get to the cafeteria. Also- it would be good if they could organize hair cut visits and pedicure visits because my son will not go on his own and cannot cut his toenails by himself. The laundry is down the street so it is inconvenient for the residents to do their own laundry.

I gotta give these guys 5 stars mainly because the only other review is an (in my opinion) unfair one star rating. I was in Villa Fairmont several years ago and while it may have had some problems (more like a 3.5 or 4 star) it was a place that helped me stabilize in a safe location until I was accepted in a Dual Diagnosis Recovery Home (Bonita House). I currently work in the recovery field and live an independent life. To me that is worth all of the struggles that I have had with any of the programs I have been in. Gotta go through hell before you get to heaven. That's just the way it is when you have a diagnosis that isn't socially acceptable... The system may not be perfect and there is certainly lots of broken components, but we need some kind of system and it does work for some. I know because I'm one.

My loved one is currently at MPI. In the time she's been there, she's been to serveral 12 step meetings, has received one on one counseling and tons of education regarding this disease. Additionally, there is a family plan so that we can be the best support for her when she goes home. MPI is an excellent place. She will be there for at least another week or two and is very happy she went and we have very high expectations for her as a result of the treatment.

First time in treatment, I did not apply myself to the MPI treatment program.. hence, I started drinking again after losing my wife to cancer... Second time in treatment, I attended their great grief classes and stuck with the program... I HAVE BEEN CLEAN FOR 578 days...

I loved coming here, peter worked with me and truely made a impact on my life.
I am now over a year clean of meth. :) Thanks to the support I got I feel like a new person. Or have finnally become the person I was born to be.
Key thing in recovery is if you really want it you'll do what's asked , you'll participate and you'll always remember "just because you graduate doesn't mean your FULLY recovered. Recovery is life long. "
Thanks everyone at Palo Alto family services you guys are awesome!

San Mateo, CA | Horizon Treatment Services has a detox program called Detox at Palm Avenue. At the time of writing this text, this location is temporarily closed. But since it’s subject to open again, please double check their website to ensure that they’re indeed open. It’s out in San Mateo, California. Anyway, this 22-bed detox facility treats men, women, | Treatments Programs Payment Options | So, I just left Palm treatment/detox center and wanted to leave a review while it’s fresh in my mind. To begin, when I was first getting checked in, a girl was on her way out literally crying with gratitude for how much this place saved her life. You could tell how genuine and appreciative she was. Super heart warming, so that was a good start.
Pros to going to Palm Ave:
-The staff is great, they genuinely care and all are in recovery themselves so they’re very empathetic.
-It’s small, so if you’re someone who is anxious or nervous, don’t be. If I had to guess I’d say they can only hold up to about 15-20 at most and that’s a huge positive when you’re not at your best at don’t want to be around a hundred other people.
-Food was very clean, healthy, and always available.
-Meds are all taken care of for you, they’ll even pick up your prescriptions and make sure you get them on time, even if you’re asleep, they’re on top of it.
-There’s really only one mandatory meeting (NA/AA) but several groups which are optional that I found really helpful and well led.
-They don’t press you on where or when you need to be somewhere like other treatment centers do. If you need to sleep- you can sleep.
Special shout out to Christian (who helped with meds, he always has good music playing and just a very positive vibe). Also, Tree. I spent ten minutes talking to this man and gained more perspective than I have in probably the last three years. Heather also, very chill and easy to talk to. These people really care. They’ve completely turned their lives around and some have come from really difficult pasts. It’s inspiring to hear their stories.
Not to turn this into a novel but I’m just really stoked places like this exist- and free no less with medi-cal. To finish, if you’re struggling at all, just go for a few days. I only stayed a few days bc I had previously detoxed in a hospital but some stay much longer- the choice is yours.
Thank you to everyone at Palm Ave. I won’t forget it.

Place is amazing!..Staff is amazing and they take the time to make sure that your doing okay. Not just a cursory.." Good Morning" or " Good Night" They actually take an interest in why your there and what they can do to make your stay as successful as possible.
Classes are set up and offered throughout the day to ensure that you have some tools when you leave. There is medical on sight and a caseworker who jumps through hoops to make sure that each client has access to all the available resources in the county.
They have a business model that is golden and should be mirrored by similiar businesses.

I have had an excellent experience at Palm Detox. They reopened and came recommended by members of the community. I was hesitant at first but I showed up embarrassed and defeated.
was treated with respect and staff went out of the way to help me. Female lead staff even brought me clothing, books and hygiene from her home because I was in need of deodorant and the stuffuu they had didn’t work. I didn’t ask, she overheard me and another client talking. She brought him some clothing and a notebook. This place has amazing staff. They tend to follow the rules and it’s annoying sometimes cause I’d like to smoke more and have SUGAR. But I do recommend plus they help u find treatment after.

CDRP is a wonderful program full of counselors that really care about your health. But it won't work if you don't care. They have a nice new facility now, I've gone back to visit and it's really nice, clean, welcoming environment. I have long lasting friends I was able to make through their classes and 5 years sober.
