This is a unique facility-a comfortable, low key place that allows you certain freedoms that most others do not. The staff is friendly, professional, and goes above and beyond to make you feel safe and secure. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a less traditional rehabilitation experience.I returned to this facility after a bad relapse, and they welcomed me with open arms. I was fortunate enough to spend 4 terms with amazing counselors and staff. They, along with the owner, once again went out of their way to help me battle this disease. Their program is well-thought out, and allows you to explore the facets of addiction. The group therapies offer insight from both the counselors and fellow addicts in a comfortable environment. I cannot express in words what this place means to me-I will be forever thankful and grateful for their life-saving program. I wouldn t be here without it. Changing Tides is like a home away from home, and holds a special place in my heart.

I've been all over NC. I've got a record amount of DWIs from my alcohol addiction. The attention, professional care, & treatment at Changing Tides was nothing short of phenomenal! I've been taught tools (to utilize) in my addiction that I never knew were available. I love this place, and they go the extra mile to help individuals but only if you let them. It's changed my whole outlook on life. Changed my thinking.I highly recommend Changing Tides if you or your loved ones need a rescue from all that addiction has destroyed in your family! It could save your life. They helped this old drunk so much that I can never thank them enough. Love every single one of the staff members here and the addiction community (AA) that has to be experienced. You will truly feel the love like you've probably never felt.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

I came to Changing Tides in May 2024, feeling lost and unsure if recovery was even possible for me. What I found was a community of incredibly compassionate, skilled counselors and staff who supported me every step of the way. They didn’t just treat my addiction—they helped me rebuild my life from the inside out. The environment is nurturing, structured, and deeply healing. I left in September 2024 with tools, clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose. I can honestly say this place saved my life. I’ll forever be grateful for the people and the program that brought me back to myself.

Changing tides truly changed my life. I learned so much about myself and who I could truly be with sobriety. I loved that we were right on the beach and still had a bit of freedom, which made transitioning back to life at home more easy. The majority of employees there are all in recovery as well which made them more relatable and easy to talk to. I came in an anxious mess and left with joy and excitement about the future. The assignments we did in group really helped me take a look at myself and prepare for the future. I still will read some of those assignments today to help remind me of why I am sober! I’ve been sober for almost a year now and I couldn’t have done it without changing tides.

Changing Tides helped me so much in finding my way to a clean and sober life. Providing caring staff, plus a safe environment for me to become open to hearing and understanding my disease of alcoholism and addiction. The staff are amazing people who actually care about each client. That was very important to me. I’ve been to other treatment centers and I could tell the staff was there just for a paycheck. The staff treated me like a human being. They cared for me when I didn’t know how to care for myself. I also liked that I didn’t feel like a prisoner. I was free to walk the property and to the beach. The staff also took us to local A.A. and N.A. meetings to see and hear the message of recovery from people who actually staying clean and sober. The rooms were very nice and I was allowed to order my own groceries and cook my own food. Which was freaking awesome lol because from my experience other places do not serve the best foods. There’s also a gym, basketball, pool and patio area where clients can grill and converse with each other by the pool. Now for my favorite thing was the beach access directly across the facility. It was a great place for me to watch the sunrise and meditate. Changing Tides is special. I stayed three terms and I’m still clean and sober today!

After my life completely falling into dissaray and missing out on more than half of every week due to being blackout drunk I decided I needed help. Went here for 28 days and after 9 years I'm sober going on two months and feel good and positive. The staff were amazing and very helpful always willing to listen to you and give you advice and pointers. The assignments really make you dig deep down into why you turned to drugs or alcohol and help you realize why if you didn't know and help you deal with them more appropriately. If you truly want help this is an amazing place to go
