Kitty Hawk, NC | Situated in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, Changing Tides offers addiction recovery for adults in a tranquil beachfront environment. With the Atlantic Ocean nearby the peaceful surroundings help clients unwind and focus on healing while experiencing the calming sounds of the waves. Luxury Amenities and Multiple Treatment Options With private beach acc | Treatments Payment Options | I showed up to Changing Tides at my lowest. I thought my life was over, and I was beyond repair.
I pulled up thinking I was about to walk the plank to my ultimate doom. But the first words I heard were from a guy casually shooting hoops who said “Hey! Welcome! Give it two days and you’ll feel right at home.” In my mind I thought there was no way that was true. Boy was I wrong.
In a way, my life WAS over. The way of life that I had been so accustomed to living died that day. Thankfully.
Changing Tides let me see that life was worth living again. They didn’t just teach me how to not use and abuse, they taught me how to exist. And enjoy existing.
I gained friends, skills, strategies, lessons, and most importantly: my freedom.
My advice to anyone thinking of coming to Changing Tides: do it. Listen, digest, practice, enjoy the beach, laugh, cry, and make the effort. Your life is worth it, and if you do all of those things, Changing Tides will show you how to move forward. This place is truly special.
I can’t possibly thank the staff here enough. Lori, Geri, Grayson, Brian, Melanie, Leo, Moria, Dr. Sanchez, Angel, Kolby, Lauren, Melissa, Cecil, Aubrey, Brett, Dr. Martin, and of course Ted - you’ve given me my life back.
You didn’t just help me stop drinking, you helped me be me.

Choosing to seek help is never easy, and the day I arrived at Changing Tides, I was angry, incredibly nervous, and completely resistant to being there. However, from the moment I stepped onto the property, the staff completely changed my perspective. They were exceptionally welcoming, understanding, and consummate professionals. I quickly realized this wasn’t just a standard rehab facility, it was the catalyst for a total life change. The environment they cultivate is unique. It is not a lockdown facility. They grant you the freedom you need, treat you with absolute dignity as a human being, and go above and beyond to meet the individual needs of everyone starting their recovery journey.
The staff members are the heartbeat of this program, and the personal relationships I built with them saved my life.Aubry was instrumental right from the start, helping me seamlessly secure a room and transition into the facility.
Brett’s vast knowledge and insight provided immense guidance throughout the process. Angel, Kolby, and Lauren met me at the beginning of my journey. Through foundational assignments, peer activities, and simply being incredibly real with me, they helped me dig deep within myself to understand how to actually live a life in recovery. Cecil and Melissa guided me through the later, deeper assignments that truly opened my eyes and solidified my breakthrough.
Beyond the staff, the connection with my peers was invaluable. I built deep, lasting friendships with people who walked this path with me, creating a powerful brotherhood that I desperately needed and couldn't have done without.
Changing Tides gave me exactly what I needed, even when I didn't know I needed it. I have so much love and respect for everyone there, and I am profoundly blessed to have met them all. If you or a loved one are seeking help and looking for a place that will truly support your transformation, this is the best place to go. It is a world class facility on the beachfront, but more importantly, it is a place of genuine healing. Would give more stars if possible!

When I arrived at Changing Tides everyone made me feel welcome, I was nervous, scared and embarrassed and just not really sure about anything, the only thing I was sure of is that I needed help.I was at the point that I didn’t care if I lived or died, I was ready for a change in my life. When I arrived I thought I just had a drinking problem, that I was an alcoholic, but I learned so much more about myself. I learned about my character defects, the resentment and anger I was carrying was destroying me. The Faculty here helped me through it all, taught me the coping skills I needed to overcome these issues, also taught me how to set boundaries. All the Therapist, Counselors and Peer Support are amazing people, they all have their own unique style of therapy .This place was a lifeline for me, a beacon of light in a dark place, my life will never be the same. Thank you so very much to all the Faculty and Staff at Changing Tides, I now can see the Tide Changing in my life.I will have 90 days sobriety on May 18, 2026, and I am working the program,I am working the 12 Steps and I keep doing the next right thing and being honest, with myself and others, nothing bad comes from that. My sincere thanks to Bret, Aubrey, Cecil and all the staff , this place is very special, near and dear to my heart.

Those attending this rehab center will receive case management service | Treatments Programs Payment Options | The only reason and I mean the only reason I am giving this five stars is because of my counselor Miss Ell when I I'm telling you this woman has helped me so tremendously she saved my life and my family she helped me stay clean when the actual clinic was not doing what they were supposed to be doing for instance this woman found my papers that were sitting behind the reception desk under stack of paper for almost a week a little back side story I had surgery August 25th when in August 26th and tested for a benzo well they took my take-homes away that I had just gotten so it took me all over a few days to get the hospital to fax over my paperwork well she had found it took it to the doctor the doctor said the medication wasn't on there that I was lying. Well missile took it right back to her and showed her it's right here so again she's the one and only reason I have my take homes she's been working on getting me my take homes once again while moving up in my take-homes and there's one doctor there that's never there so it's next to impossible to get take homes but she made it happen and is still trying to make it happen. All I want to say is you have amazing people that work there that keep getting ran away all the time by the employees there that are just there for a paycheck I'm just thankful that she got me on the path that I need to be on mentally and physically before anything happens to her honestly because from here on out I will continue to do good and I will always think of her

I checked myself into this hospital back in March of 2022, during COVID, after feeling like I was finally on the edge with my depression. With the job I was at, working double shifts almost every day and still not making enough to live, and then coming home to even more stress, I was at my breaking point. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to be a patient of Dr Light's while I was here, and continued to see him for a few more months following my release. I was only in this hospital for a week, but I learned a lot during my stay. Dr Light, and the group sessions, taught me plenty of ways to manage my depression and anxiety. I loved the nurse, Tito, he was such a fun and kind soul to have on that floor with us all. I met some amazing people in this hospital who were also struggling with mental health. Although I haven't heard from them in a few years, I am so grateful to have cross paths with them and hope they are doing well. As for me, I have been off my antidepressants for almost 4 years now, and I do feel like a big part of that is thanks to the skills this place has given me. The hospital was clean, and the staff were kind, but the food was not too great. I will say though, I think my only complaint was the way billing is handled. The day before I was released, a woman came into the room to ask me how I would be paying for my stay. That caught me off guard, especially with financials being one of the things that triggered my depression. I think that should be something they should just mail to you and then later on you can figure out a payment plan with them. I actually ended up selling my 2017 Toyota Tacoma (which I miss more than anything) to pay them after my stay.

I just wanted to come on here and say that I am extremely grateful for the counselor I was given when I joined the treatment center in Virginia Beach Mrs EL is an angel sent from heaven she listened to everything I had to say and she made me feel heard and she made me feel like she actually cared about what I was going through she will call me and check up on me even just to ask about my life it doesn't always have to be about work and what she supposed to do to keep her job it's actually her being a human and caring so the best thing that clinic has going for them if you want me to be honest is her and all the good people that are there leave the people that deserve to be treated the best don't get treated the best and I know whoever owns bhg needs to be grateful to have her as a counselor because she's actually doing more than just her job she's actually being there for her clients she treats them like humans and not addicts. She advocates for everybody. Just recently I had a mishap when I had surgery they ended up giving me a benzo in my IV and I didn't know so when I went to the clinic they got my take homes taken away well it was extremely hard to get my hospital papers to prove that it was put in my IV so I can get my take homes back they kept saying they didn't receive the paperwork at the clinic and it took at least almost 3 weeks a little over and one day Mrs EL happened to be working at the front desk and I wasn't even going to say anything but she asked me about it while she went over by the printer and started looking to see if she could find my paperwork well it was under stacks of paper so it was there the whole time so needless to say she got me my phone back as fast as she could and got me a month worth of take homes she went to bat for me and I am forever grateful. So again I came on here to post a review and I usually do not do that but she deserves the review and so much more Mrs EL if you're reading this thank you so much for being my angel sent from above thank you for reaching out to me and checking on me on a daily basis even though I only come in there once a month thank you for caring for me and showing that not only acting but you have shown me multiple times I hope you get so many blessings in your life cuz you deserve every one of them.

The staff Brandon, Jay, Mrs Green, Capt Jennifer, Capt Damon, annso many more are the BEST!! I can't think of a better Christian program to go to or to recommend!!

As a graduate of this program I am just here to refute the negative review left by a former beneficiary. Before you enter the program you are given in detail what you are signing up for. You are told from the beginning this is a Work Therapy program, and that you will have to attend Christian based spiritual classes and services. The resident managers have to deal with up to 100 something men so please don't listen to that one negative review about the program itself and about the program employees who's names should not be mentioned. Without God placing me here I would be on the street, dead in my addiction or worse. They do not force you to stay. The doors are meant to keep randoms out, not to keep someone unwilling to change their life, in. If you are struggling with addiction, or want to grow in your relationship with Christ, or even if you have no religion you are welcome here. But again, this is a work Therapy, Christian based program. Those who complain know exactly what they are signing up for . God bless.

Barry Robinson Center emphasizes a multidisciplinary, family-involved appro | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I was a phase 3 patient during July 2024-November 2024 and I have to say it changed me and my family's life for the better, I had the most amazing staff and I loved them and every single day felt like a summer camp. Although a couple of the kids in my dorm (power) were chill, most would freak out daily and force us into the mpr (where we would evac to when a danger was present) but otherwise i loved it

Our teen was struggling with her mental health and we had tried various avenues to get her the assistance she was needing, but nothing was even creating any level of a break through. We found BRC, which for us is across the country, and it was exactly what our teen needed. We had the best therapist for individual & family therapy. Staff were so helpful from start to finish. My child now says that she doesn’t know where she would be if we didn’t find BRC and is excited to update the staff as time goes on, with how she’s excelling because of how much work they put into her wellbeing. I do believe that BRC is largely what the teens make of it, hence some of the reviews. But we had such a positive experience with BRC and are thankful for the incredible staff

I was at the Barry Robinson Center for about six months. I arrived there in about December and left in June or July. Here’s a brief summary of how my experience looked like. First when you arrive, you have signatures to sign and paperwork to go over. You consent to stay at BRC for however long it takes for you and whoever you’re having altercations with, to be solved. Then, you go into your a nursing area and get your medications checked in. Right after, you’re off to your age-selected dorm to get your clothes and bedroom set. It’s about a 3-4 hour process, but you’ll get through it. Here’s more in depth experiences. At times, there may be things called codes. These are where kids in your dorm are throwing objects, arguing with dorm personnel, or just refusing to go anywhere. This could happen occasionally, or all the time. It could also last either 30 minutes, or up to an hour. Another situation that has happened is just pure arguing. For example, someone is watching a television show, a kid walks in wanting to change it, then they start arguing over it for no reason. This will most likely happen here, but the therapists will teach you ways on how to cope with it. My closing statements are that I want to thank the Barry Robinson Center Residential Coaches, Chefs, Nursing Staff, Therapists, my old therapist, Janitors, and whoever else I didn’t mention. If I had a child that was going through a problem I couldn’t solve, I would send them here and get them proper help they need. Thank you for reading this. ✌️ - Jackson
