The intensive outpatient groups as well as one-on-one counseling here have changed my life. I think it's important to let the people offering free help know that they've helped. Jessica Z. Is an amazing counselor. I just want everyone to know how much they helped with my substance abuse and mental health problems. I apply the things I've learned from one on one counseling to the groups to my everyday life! 😊

The Port Health Nags Head has been a blessing for many.. there is always bad with the good, but in general they have helped many..including myself, it's not only a place for recovery, or medications, but there is some great counselors that I can attest have helped me work thru many issues over the years, and they are not just there if you have a mental issue, or are in to help a drug addiction..but they also offer great groups that can help women (and men)in toxic relationships, help for using life skills in situations that you cannot do alone, there their for grief counseling.. the groups are for those who sign up weekly and if needed one on one counseling sessions are available.. its not always been easy, and if your new and the 1st experience isn't what you like, remember that's why there is more than 1 person to help you, everyone has different personalities so don't give up or be angry, they also want to help you find the right person that you will get the best experience and help from... I appreciate the front office staff.. Mrs Norma, and others are friendly and helpful..the Dr is wonderful and will do his best if you do need medication to get you on the correct ones to help your condition and help you if you are able to get off as well.. the entire staff have been a blessing for me.. thru the good and bad times.. I recommend you call 1st, for if new you will need to do a intake which is very thorough. I also want to point out they are Covid careful and it's always clean and sanitized as a immune compromised patient I appreciate that. Thanks to all I've known who have helped me over the years. Your top stars to me.

He is clean, sober and sold out for Jesus. His story could have had a much different ending. So thankful that God is still writing our sons story.....

I showed up to Changing Tides at my lowest. I thought my life was over, and I was beyond repair. I pulled up thinking I was about to walk the plank to my ultimate doom. But the first words I heard were from a guy casually shooting hoops who said “Hey! Welcome! Give it two days and you’ll feel right at home.” In my mind I thought there was no way that was true. Boy was I wrong. In a way, my life WAS over. The way of life that I had been so accustomed to living died that day. Thankfully. Changing Tides let me see that life was worth living again. They didn’t just teach me how to not use and abuse, they taught me how to exist. And enjoy existing. I gained friends, skills, strategies, lessons, and most importantly: my freedom. My advice to anyone thinking of coming to Changing Tides: do it. Listen, digest, practice, enjoy the beach, laugh, cry, and make the effort. Your life is worth it, and if you do all of those things, Changing Tides will show you how to move forward. This place is truly special. I can’t possibly thank the staff here enough. Lori, Geri, Grayson, Brian, Melanie, Leo, Moria, Dr. Sanchez, Angel, Kolby, Lauren, Melissa, Cecil, Aubrey, Brett, Dr. Martin, and of course Ted - you’ve given me my life back. You didn’t just help me stop drinking, you helped me be me.

Choosing to seek help is never easy, and the day I arrived at Changing Tides, I was angry, incredibly nervous, and completely resistant to being there. However, from the moment I stepped onto the property, the staff completely changed my perspective. They were exceptionally welcoming, understanding, and consummate professionals. I quickly realized this wasn’t just a standard rehab facility, it was the catalyst for a total life change. The environment they cultivate is unique. It is not a lockdown facility. They grant you the freedom you need, treat you with absolute dignity as a human being, and go above and beyond to meet the individual needs of everyone starting their recovery journey. The staff members are the heartbeat of this program, and the personal relationships I built with them saved my life.Aubry was instrumental right from the start, helping me seamlessly secure a room and transition into the facility. Brett’s vast knowledge and insight provided immense guidance throughout the process. Angel, Kolby, and Lauren met me at the beginning of my journey. Through foundational assignments, peer activities, and simply being incredibly real with me, they helped me dig deep within myself to understand how to actually live a life in recovery. Cecil and Melissa guided me through the later, deeper assignments that truly opened my eyes and solidified my breakthrough. Beyond the staff, the connection with my peers was invaluable. I built deep, lasting friendships with people who walked this path with me, creating a powerful brotherhood that I desperately needed and couldn't have done without. Changing Tides gave me exactly what I needed, even when I didn't know I needed it. I have so much love and respect for everyone there, and I am profoundly blessed to have met them all. If you or a loved one are seeking help and looking for a place that will truly support your transformation, this is the best place to go. It is a world class facility on the beachfront, but more importantly, it is a place of genuine healing. Would give more stars if possible!

When I arrived at Changing Tides everyone made me feel welcome, I was nervous, scared and embarrassed and just not really sure about anything, the only thing I was sure of is that I needed help.I was at the point that I didn’t care if I lived or died, I was ready for a change in my life. When I arrived I thought I just had a drinking problem, that I was an alcoholic, but I learned so much more about myself. I learned about my character defects, the resentment and anger I was carrying was destroying me. The Faculty here helped me through it all, taught me the coping skills I needed to overcome these issues, also taught me how to set boundaries. All the Therapist, Counselors and Peer Support are amazing people, they all have their own unique style of therapy .This place was a lifeline for me, a beacon of light in a dark place, my life will never be the same. Thank you so very much to all the Faculty and Staff at Changing Tides, I now can see the Tide Changing in my life.I will have 90 days sobriety on May 18, 2026, and I am working the program,I am working the 12 Steps and I keep doing the next right thing and being honest, with myself and others, nothing bad comes from that. My sincere thanks to Bret, Aubrey, Cecil and all the staff , this place is very special, near and dear to my heart.

The only reason and I mean the only reason I am giving this five stars is because of my counselor Miss Ell when I I'm telling you this woman has helped me so tremendously she saved my life and my family she helped me stay clean when the actual clinic was not doing what they were supposed to be doing for instance this woman found my papers that were sitting behind the reception desk under stack of paper for almost a week a little back side story I had surgery August 25th when in August 26th and tested for a benzo well they took my take-homes away that I had just gotten so it took me all over a few days to get the hospital to fax over my paperwork well she had found it took it to the doctor the doctor said the medication wasn't on there that I was lying. Well missile took it right back to her and showed her it's right here so again she's the one and only reason I have my take homes she's been working on getting me my take homes once again while moving up in my take-homes and there's one doctor there that's never there so it's next to impossible to get take homes but she made it happen and is still trying to make it happen. All I want to say is you have amazing people that work there that keep getting ran away all the time by the employees there that are just there for a paycheck I'm just thankful that she got me on the path that I need to be on mentally and physically before anything happens to her honestly because from here on out I will continue to do good and I will always think of her

Id like to thank this program. The facility and all of the people who get up and make this place available to people like myself. I came in...in a state of almost coming undone. I was starting to give up on myself. And I was in a situation that no one wants to be in while struggling with a substance abuse issue. Dr Nick stayed on my case. He was honest with me, while trying his hardest not to be over bearing. (I'm sure he wanted to knock me out and tie me to an inpatient bed and lock me away) But he simply told me the facts. By the Grace of God I got it together. I have never been more proud of myself. I know that you should not get kudos for doing what a person is supposed to do, but that shit was hard for me so I'm gonna pat myself on the back until I find something else to be proud of. Hazel at the front has always greeted me with a big smile and had always been super kind to me. My counselor Malik has also been super attentive and quick to do anything that I've requested that was recovery and new life related. And of coarse .. my honest Hero Dr. Nick...he has been the one to tell me exactly what I needed to hear. He won't take up too much of your time. I think he can read through the people who are serious and the ones just trying to avoid being sick with methadone...all while using drugs along with it. Regardless I am grateful for all of them. Let's not forget Dude Nurse Donnie and a few others that don't work there anymore. Straight up gratitude for them all. If your serious about getting your life together, this is a nice place to visit daily until they feel like they can trust you to get your take home doses. I've been to other clinics and tried other programs, and this one has been my favorite. I would recommend anyone who wants to free themselves from the life of being a slave to a substance. This place let me know that I was holding the keys to free these chains the whole time. They just showed me a way to use them. There are a few ways to obtain recovery. This was the way that worked for me. I pray someone reads this and tries. I have struggled off and on for almost 15 years, I wished I gave this place a try sooner. You can go everyday and still mess up, or you can put your foot in it with them and quit that stuff. It's up to you. They will be there regardless if you show up. But don't be surprised when they call you and ask you where you have been....because they are actually worried when they don't punch your number in that morning. Give it a try, they can't do all the work for you, but they can alleviate some of the pain that goes along with quitting and also provide you with some programs for food assistance...homelessness ..mental health...PTSD ....all the things that using does to a life. Again. Gratitude for Hazel, Malik, Nurse Donnie, and Dr Nick. Thank you for showing up everyday and putting on your war faces to help me fight this terrible enemy. And guess what. We are winning! Y'all got one out of the grips of this plague. It takes a special type of person to have empathy for people that constantly hurt themselves. Please continue fighting. I am proof that there is success in this science. With God's grace...modern medicine..and a MODERN thinking recovery team it can be done. I know the fight is not over, and I'm grateful that that door is open 6 days a week. I am daring any addict to please walk in and ask for some of the names I've mentioned at this facility....and if you are expecting I especially beg that you stop in this facility and ask for any of them. They will not judge you and you can save your unborn child so much suffering if you do. No one there will make you feel like a bad person. Take the way out. Get well....save some money...and give yourself a chance. There is a million ways to do it. But save yourself the agony and give this place a try.

it's a mostly good place. not all the staff are my favorite, but that's going to happen anywhere. the new director was handed a pile of mess and is trying to make the best of it while making things better at the same time, and she's doing the best she can with what she was given from what I can tell. most of these patients just don't have.... patience. I've seen them corner staff members and scream at them for being held outside while a patient is having a medical emergency in the lobby. they only care about themselves, and there are no employees or security on drugs or smoking pot outside. I'm hopeful they can get to a place where they can have a really good crew that stays for a long time and works cohesively together. I'm glad this clinic is here for those of us that need it. the only staff member I truly have an issue with is a counselor (?) Sarah. I'm not sure what her problem is but she looks at us and treats us like we're just a bunch of junkies and nothing more. she is rude to clinic patients, she's not understanding to any situation, she lies to patients just so she doesn't have to do something, or even try, and the worst one: she also breaks HIPAA - her office is right off the lobby & if you're standing there, you can hear both sides of her entire Zoom call therapy appointments because she keeps her door wide open during these calls. I heard everything one young woman said in her appointment, very personal things. she should be ashamed of herself. the behavior I have seen from her is honestly unacceptable, and I don't believe this is the job for her. if you think addicts are beneath you, you shouldn't be working here Sarah.

I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who is struggling with addiction. For the first time in my life I have found a place with a staff that not only cares deeply for their patients, but also do not make their patients feel judged. They really do seem to care beyond any other facility I have been to, and I have been to several. I still have a long way to go, but just knowing that they see their patients as human beings who are in a lot of pain emotionally and mentally, and not just “junkies” , is what gives me the strength and courage to keep trying. The staff is absolutely amazing. I will forever be grateful for this , facility, the staff, and the doctors associated with this treatment program.

I checked myself into this hospital back in March of 2022, during COVID, after feeling like I was finally on the edge with my depression. With the job I was at, working double shifts almost every day and still not making enough to live, and then coming home to even more stress, I was at my breaking point. Thankfully, I was lucky enough to be a patient of Dr Light's while I was here, and continued to see him for a few more months following my release. I was only in this hospital for a week, but I learned a lot during my stay. Dr Light, and the group sessions, taught me plenty of ways to manage my depression and anxiety. I loved the nurse, Tito, he was such a fun and kind soul to have on that floor with us all. I met some amazing people in this hospital who were also struggling with mental health. Although I haven't heard from them in a few years, I am so grateful to have cross paths with them and hope they are doing well. As for me, I have been off my antidepressants for almost 4 years now, and I do feel like a big part of that is thanks to the skills this place has given me. The hospital was clean, and the staff were kind, but the food was not too great. I will say though, I think my only complaint was the way billing is handled. The day before I was released, a woman came into the room to ask me how I would be paying for my stay. That caught me off guard, especially with financials being one of the things that triggered my depression. I think that should be something they should just mail to you and then later on you can figure out a payment plan with them. I actually ended up selling my 2017 Toyota Tacoma (which I miss more than anything) to pay them after my stay.
