About Cornerstone of Southern California – Outpatient Program

They have an intensive outpatient program. During this program, you’ll receive one on one counseling with a licensed addiction therapist and spend time in group counseling. These sessions cover how to deal with withdrawal, the nature of addiction, how 12 Step programs work, family dynamics, and how to socialize while sober.

They structure their intensive outpatient program in a way that you have more intense treatment at the start of the program. This is to ensure you have enough support during the most vulnerable part of recovery. The sessions slowly taper off as you feel more confident and stable. They also make it easy for you to change programs if you realize you need more or less intensive care.

Something that stood out to me is their encouragement to involve your family in your recovery process. For all of their programs, you can attend family and couples therapy to repair damaged relationships and strengthen your bond with your loved ones.

Cornerstone was a place I could truly call home. During an uncertain time in my sobriety, it gave me a sense of community, belonging, love, and the tools I needed to continue growing in my recovery. I learned discipline, built meaningful connections with both clients and staff, and experienced moments that made my time there truly worthwhile. I was always cared for beyond what was expected, and more than anywhere else, Cornerstone was a place where I felt safe. Jorge was my house manager for several months, and he helped me through many difficult moments. He always told me what I needed to hear without sugarcoating it. He took clients to meetings and church multiple times a week, and consistently went above and beyond for everyone in the house. His honesty, guidance, and willingness to be there for the clients made a lasting impact on me. Kirk was another house manager I had the opportunity to spend time with. During some of my hardest days, he reminded me that recovery could still include laughter, fun, and genuinely enjoying life. His ability to bring positivity into difficult moments is something I’ll always appreciate. Danielle and Cory were always looking out for me. They believed in me during times when I struggled to believe in myself, and most importantly, they never gave up on me despite my mistakes and setbacks. Their continued support meant more to me than I can put into words. Many, if not all, of the staff members at Cornerstone have left a lasting impact on me. Through the community we built, the relationships I formed, and the people who stood by me throughout my stay, Cornerstone became a family.

Consider yourself lucky if you have the opportunity to go to Cornerstone for your recovery process. Cornerstone is one of those rare treatment centers that is not operating on a main goal of financial profit. Dr. Stone and the entire Cornerstone staffing squad has a vision and goal that supersedes financial gain. They truly care for each clients well being and the process of their recovery. I received everything I needed to set the foundation for long term recovery and more. I would recommend any one who is close to me to peruse needed treatment under the Cornerstone hand of care. Big warm shout out to my case manager Juliet, group facilitator Eric, and house managers Ed and George for always going above and beyond to elevate my treatment process. Another big thank you to Intake team Cody + Taylor for getting me in when times were tough, and Cory for manning the Cornerstone ship with complete dedication. Thank you Cornerstone team for the bottom of my heart for everything. Big love🕊️

Accepted Insurance

Please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Cornerstone of Southern California – Outpatient Program works with several private insurance providers, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare. Cornerstone offers individualized treatment planning. Individuals may be required to attend up to 7 days a week. Morning and evening programs are tailored to fit your individual needs for school, employment, or family commitments. Each program group meets from 8:30 - 11:00 am or 6:00 - 9:00 pm.

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. Cornerstone believes that chemical dependency is a disease that affects the entire family. If you have a family member or significant other in treatment, you are strongly encouraged to attend the Family Program.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Hello.. my name is Beth Ann.. I am being discharged from Cornerstone tomorrow. I have completed a 6 month program. I have struggled with addiction my whole life, many rehabs. Cornerstone in my eyes is the best rehab ever. The whole entire staff not only do a wonderful job at what they do, but they all truly care. The treatment from beginning with residential all the way to IOP has been a loving and educational process. For once I am leaving treatment with the tools and the self confidence that I can and will stay clean and sober. I plan on staying connected to the Alumni program. Love you Cornerstone and Thank You.

Being at Cornerstone is great. All of the staff and clinicians are helpful. They show that they care about the people who are going through the program. The housing is super nice, comfortable, clean and feels like a family due to the management keeping everyone accountable in a caring way. The day classes are informative and interactive. The focus at cornerstone is on long term sobriety and how to get there one moment at a time. The weekly outings are fun. We have opportunity to go to the gym four days a week. Weekly Art class, breath work, and sound bath class twice a week make the experience well rounded and completely focused on recovery and mental health. Nearly everyday is an opportunity to go to meetings so we can get plugged into the community and find a sponsor for step work and long term sobriety.

Response from the owner
