If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. I have been in therapy for almost 30 years, and before I went on permanent disability, I worked in both mental and behvioral health while neglecting my own needs for over 25 years, and was is in denial about how trauma and mental illness.had caused severely unhealthy patterns. I waa on the brink of losing my marriage. The staff at LAOP met me exactly where I was, which was.a lot of denial. They always made me feel taken care of, from the intake call to.dischage. These are a beautiful group of diverse and loving people. I was sad to leave, but knew I was now prepared for les intensive tx. I owe my life to LAOP

Went for a 90 day program starting August 2025 and had a phenomenal experience. The mix of personal one-on-one therapy with the many weekly group therapy and educational sessions was exactly what I needed, and I was able to address several different demons that were all contributing to my drinking problem. I thought each therapist brought something different to the table which helped with a nice well rounded set of points of view. I happened to be with a cool group of people (all different backgrounds and dealing with different things in their lives) and it felt like a little family as the weeks went on. If you bring the right mindset and take it seriously, you can do extremely well here. Insurance can be a nightmare, but that's not at all to do with the actual services offered so don't let some of these careless reviews deter you from getting treatment. Very thankful for all the folks there.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Treatments

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

After standing up to a racist during group, I was kicked out of this program with no warning, leaving me with no therapist, no psychiatrist, and no resources. When they called me to let me know I wasn't welcome back, I begged for an explanation and was told it "wasn't for me to know." I finally got my previous therapist to get in contact with LAOP and they told her easily disprovable lies (namely that I had been ditching groups and wasn't "trying hard enough" at the program.) I have contacted them over a dozen times for an explanation and in an attempt to file complaints, and they are intentionally avoiding me, so I will have to choice but to take the complaints higher up. While this place claims to treat patients from a social justice lens, they allowed a violent abuser to be present with the other patients and joke about killing and dismembering his wife's cat in front of the group. Yami, one of the therapists, has no concept of social justice and racism (especially shocking considering she's a POC) and became sarcastic and combative with multiple patients who wanted to talk about how systemic racism and oppression affected them. She also suggested I give up and leave the program twice when I asked for alternatives to some of her treatment methods (hastily, sloppily-made worksheets and bad advice.) The racist that I stood up to in group caused so much damage that they had to have an hours-long meeting with the entire staff and all of the clients about it, but she was not removed from the program. I was. LAOP taught me a very important lesson- do not trust any person or institution, and never ask for help. I deeply regret subjecting myself to another half-baked, repetitive, insultingly simplistic program full of staff who are more akin to duplicitous, judgmental teenagers than they are to mental health professionals. LAOP has done more damage to my mental health than I can put into words. LAOP will almost certainly respond to this review in an attempt at damage control. Don't buy it. It's all about PR and they know that they can say whatever they want about their clients because we suffer from mental illnesses and are therefore, in their opinion, untrustworthy. Brian and Morris are the only bright spots in the place.

Stay away. Worst IOP I have been to, and I have been to a lot. I was just at a health summit and met some folks like me who also felt the same way about this LAOP program. They are generic in their approach and don’t cater to your needs, there are many programs out there that do a better job earning your trust instead of focusing on your insurance money. Stay away!
