While the clients are mainly athletes, there are also clients that are in recovery for addiction, I being one of them. I enjoyed the group sessions, and they were very healing. My therapist, Pia, is a true gift, and I would recommend her for anyone healing from addiction. The staff was more like a family and they treated me very well. From the owner Deb to the administration, techs, and nursing staff, everybody was very accommodating to me. A shout out to the chefs, while being there almost thirty five days, every meal was delightful every time. I only wish I could stay longer, thank you Pure Recovery for My Success, I am well. Part of that job requires me to select treatment programs that are well suited for their often complex needs. Finding good programs that truly understand addiction/dual diagnosis issues that are often complicated by cognition and brain trauma issues was a nearly impossible. Then the NFL Alumni connected me to Pure Recovery California. The Pure Recovery programs , which are for everyone not just athletes are remarkable. Their approach to treating addiction as a brain disease and their advanced neuroscience programs are real game changers. The facility is beautiful and the expert medical team is outstanding. The results for the athletes that I personally know and work with that have been through the program are just amazing , life changing and lifesaving. I will continue to recommend Pure Recovery California and their outstanding programs to athletes and others who are in need of recovery programs. Today they were over the top in ensuring I received the TDap vaccine that I needed before the delivery of my Grand-daughter “Noodle”. But after seeing a community physician and being soundly disappointed, I decided to brave it anyway. What a happy surprise it was! I was treated with dignity and respect by every staff member I encountered, and although I did have to wait a fair bit for the doc (because he takes the extra time with patients, which I consider good, thank you), the place stayed open for me, and any of the staff still needed stayed as well. The only reason for knocking off a star is the difficulty in reaching the CBOC by phone and returning calls.. they are still being routed through the Greater LA VA Hospital call center, which is at least improving by not having a robot say that they are having high call volume and hanging up on you. The beautiful, clean home I stayed in is about a 5 minute walk to the beach and is nestled right next to the harbor. Starting from day one I was scheduled to meet with an MD and the staff also lined me up for meetings with a psychologist and therapist. The friendly counselors are very knowledgeable and happily tend to your needs around the clock. Also, you will never have to worry about going hungry. This place has its very own talented chef and the cabinets are always overstocked with food and snacks. Another plus is that yoga, paddle boarding, trips to the gym and other fun group outings are planned throughout the week. Overall, Channel Islands Rehab would be an excellent choice for anyone looking to get back on track with a healthy, sober lifestyle. He has worked with his subcontractors for years and knows who can do the job - they are also great. Corky was responsive to our requests and inquiries and handled everything with the utmost professionalism. We couldn't be more pleased with his work and highly highly recommend him. Sherry has clean, organized houses that are ready at all times with supplies and basic necessities for new people. This is usually the time I would look for something to lift my mood. Depression gets the best of me and I spiral. I was able to really open up there. Starting from the admissions process until my final day, the Elevation staff went above and beyond. Stephanie, was in charge of my admissions, which she made seamless. Stephanie responded to all my emails and phone calls in a timely fashion and with great care. At the Calabasas house, I had the privilege to have Michele as my therapist. I owe her my life with how attentive and caring she was for me. Michele was compassionate, funny, and direct - something I needed. I could go on and on about how great of a therapist she was for me, but I do not know if there would be enough characters for me to write a review. Thank you Michele. The coaches and chefs, all of whom were therapists within their own right, were fantastic. In a place where you already feeling vulnerable they made it feel like home. Friendly, compassionate, and wonderful human beings overall is not enough to say about them. (Again, worried about the character limit here.) I want to thank them all and would give them all a gold stars if I could. If you do end up in the Calabasas house, I have left a letter for you, the client, to read, from one friend to another. After struggling with some significant trauma, the counselors that worked with my son were truly wonderful. The weekend activities were excellent including boating and trips to amusement parks. During the week, he learned to surf, completed his school curriculum so that he could graduate from his regular education elementary school, and took hikes at beautiful locations around Malibu. He loved the food, and participated in group and music therapy as well as individual counseling. We spoke on the phone most nights and had great weekend visits. My son is now a thriving 7th grader, enjoying school and close relationships with his friends. I would encourage anyone struggling to give your child the gift of this healing environment. There were pros and cons for sure, these were: Pros: Really good food Outings were fun If you were level 3 and above, you could go on off site visitations with your family Cons: Leveled me down on my last week while I had been withdrawing from two meds (Abilify and Zoloft) Made me sit through an intense PTSD flashback and didn’t let me do anything to distract myself (it was to practice a skill, but i really needed help and i felt very distressed) Tried to punish me and make me stay an extra week for feeling suicidal after leveling me down Didn’t really do much when another kid was making me feel uncomfortable by making me feel overstimulated But it was not a very bad experience. The team is stellar and treated him like he was their own family. We had a few rough days and they were amazing with keeping me in the loop and making sure to carry out my wishes. He was diagnosed within the first month of what his mental health issues were and they treated him according to what they thought was best for him. They gave us a lot of materials for us to educate us about his disorder, and educated him on what it meant and how to move forward. The location is beautiful, right near downtown Ojai, and the environment felt very welcoming from the moment we arrived. Our daughter struggles with anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and challenging behaviors. At Evolve, she was finally able to find her voice. With the support of the incredible staff and therapists, she learned how to better understand her mental health and, for the first time, could articulate what she was feeling. Evolve kept her engaged every day with a full schedule of therapy and activities like hiking, surfing, yoga, working out, and healthy meals, which helped her get strong both mentally and physically. She stayed for three months the first time and two months the second time (not typical, but necessary in her case). I can’t even put into words just how much my daughter was struggling with losing her dad, drugs and alcohol. her mental health was completely awful to the point she was self harming and attempting suicide. we had been to the mental health hospital in town MANY MANY times and tried another different residential treatment center for years before evening knowing about BNI. a different treatment center in Northern california that my daughter was at suggested that addison’s needed intensive treatment and care, a higher quality of care and brought BNI to my attention. i wish we would have known about BNI years ago because it truly changed our lives. if you would have told me a year ago that my daughter would be amazing now, i’d laugh in your face (and then cry praying to god for it to come true) addison’s spent 7 months at BNI. we would facetime everyday and had family counseling every friday with a great therapist named Steve. not only did steve treat my daughter as a person and not just a patient or client, the nurses and staff did as well. almost to a point where they seemed like family. not only was BNI a sit down and let’s talk about feelings and but they offered horse therapy, pet therapy, surf therapy and painting class. they also listened to what medication was working and not working and they got her meds right. took time but Dr.A and they staff nailed it. we will forever be grateful for BNI and the staff who became family. o adore them for taking such great care of my daughter and giving her her smile back xoxo stephmae07 7 months ago	5 5
