"I cannot recommend Ventura Recovery Center enough for anyone seeking a truly comprehensive path to recovery. From the very start, the detox team made a difficult process feel safe and manageable. What sets this place apart is how they balance professional clinical care with holistic wellness. My therapist and case manager were incredible advocates who tailored everything to my needs, while the group facilitators and technicians provided a consistent, supportive environment daily. They even incorporate practices like sound baths, a local gym, yoga and equine therapy which added a much-needed layer of peace and healing. It’s a place that treats the whole person, not just the symptoms."

recently stayed at the VRC and I truly cannot express how grateful I am for the experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff went above and beyond to make me feel safe, supported, and welcomed. Everyone was incredibly kind, compassionate, and helpful—especially during the moments I needed it the most.
I want to personally thank each and every staff member for creating such a warm and supportive environment. Their care and encouragement made a huge difference in my journey, and I’ll always be thankful for the role they played in my healing process.
If you’re looking for a place where you’ll be treated with genuine respect, kindness, and understanding, I wholeheartedly recommend VRC. They truly care—and it shows.

Their heart space as a team is palpable, you feel it immediately. They demonstrate incredible flexibility, collaboration, and a deep, unwavering commitment to the clients and families they serve. The sense of community support they provide is rare and truly meaningful.
La Ventana offers the level of sophistication, attention, and quality of care you would expect from a private-pay program, while remaining accessible to families using insurance. That balance alone sets them apart.
The leadership of Sharon Volner is powerful and intentional, and it clearly impacts the entire organization. When leadership is strong at the top, it ripples through every layer, and La Ventana is a perfect example of that. Gwen’s long-term experience and genuine compassion for clients further enrich the program; her understanding and humanity are felt in every interaction.
This team is seasoned and consistently goes above and beyond for families. They pay attention to the details, step in to intervene when necessary, and truly understand the complex similarities and differentiations between dual diagnosis, primary mental health and substance use disorder.
I highly recommend La Ventana to families seeking thoughtful, sophisticated, and deeply compassionate support for their loved ones.

I’m going to review the detox program and removed a star for the residential program because I found it far too overwhelming as an adjustment but I think that the structure is just to keep you busy and learn how to do hard things.
The detox program is exceptional. TVs in each room. Hot water. Bath tubs. The staff is top notch, they call themselves top gun and they’ve earned it.
Jade, cat, Tonia, Lindsey, Shawn, Kristy, night staff. I’m sure I’m forgetting some names.
I had a court date on zoom and freaked out and cat personally sat with me for the entire 30 mins, made me a stress ball out of a towel, and held my hand.
I went back here 3 times and they never judged me or made me feel weak. I kept going back because it was the place that I knew would help me.
Catered food (it’s alright - hit or miss) and an endless supply of Gatorade lol. You can request certain groceries as well.
The residential program includes a full day of programming, up at 630am, meetings every evening, forced gym or park after ~6 hours of programming. It’s a lot if you’re dealing with fatigue or depression like I was.
The director did her best to try to accommodate me but at the end of the day I needed something more calm and I went to a place called EleMental in Thousand Oaks.
Anyways, I’m always grateful to the team here.

Thousand Oaks, CA | Center for Discovery specializes in treating eating disorders, including dedicated programs for persons with co-occurring conditions, such as addiction. They offer residential treatment and partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs for female and non-binary clients between the ages of 16 and 26. You’ll find ‘em out in Thousand O | Treatments Programs Payment Options | It's been 6 months since I left CFD Thousand Oaks and all I can say is how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to learn and grow here. I was a little hesitant after reading the reviews yet im glad I did not let that stop me from going.
I was in the program here for a little over 3 months and thanks to the staff and my amazing therapist Stephanie, I was not only able to overcome my eating disorder but also discover more about myself!
The program is very clear and straightforward about what to expect and how the day by day is handled. They even give you a booklet for the duration of your stay to use on the daily. The operations manager, Makayla, made me feel more comfortable my first week there and is so sweet. She really went above and beyond for the patients my entire stay. Erin, the Nurse Admin, would take time to teach and explain why physical symptoms would arise and even gave classes on how our bodies are impacted by eating disorders. The nurses and diet technicians really heard and understood my neurodivergent needs too!
I feel like the approach to meals and food were very gentle even if the intergration process felt overwheming at times. I am grateful to my dietician Kylie, for being supportive and understanding when it came to eating. I learned how to eat alongside my sensitivies/sensory needs and not against it! At the end I felt well equipped to grocery shop for myself and maintain my newly developed eating habits.
Some general counselors were amazing, others disappointed me. I want to say thank you to Kevin for being a shoulder to lean on and Gerald for the wonderful morning walks and enthusiasm. Juliet, who made the weekends bearable and Zaida who puts her whole heart into her work.
The program on paper seemed easy for me. In reality, this was probably one of the hardest things I have ever done. I had to face myself. All my trauma, doubts, beliefs, and values. Things I believed to be true my whole life and having to accept that it was making me sick.
I cried a lot, i laughed and smiled a lot too. I was angry, definitely wanted to leave at times, had panic attacks, felt like my world was ending, disagreed with staff, heck even screamed/sobbed and it was all worth it. I always felt supported, even in the most difficult of moments. I was heard and accepted here.
At times, the groups felt redundant or i felt like I had too much free time. I later realized the more I worked the program the more I learned and even helped my peers by just participating in discussions. I also learned a lot from other women opening up in the groups and created bonds that exceed my time there. The group "Life Worth Living" was probably my favorite and still helps me to this day. Thank you therapist Bernice for hosting that group.
I love how the program is structured to slowly give more agency and even deal with triggers/situations in a more controlled setting. Having therapy multiple times a week helped me process these exposures. Being able to see a physician and psychiatrist weekly were also very helpful to my recovery. I was helped in creating an exit plan for when I stepped down from residential and had a safety plan created in the event I needed extra support. I left with hope and excitement for what was in store next for me!
Now there have been ups and downs. Recovery isnt linear nor pefect. At times, I continue to struggle with intrusive thoughts and the urge to use maldaptive coping skills. Despite that, I am able to use what skills ive learned at CFD Thousand Oaks and continue building my life worth living ❤️
Thank you Danisha, Cas, Stephanie, Bernice, Juliet, Kevin, Rob, Makayla, and Erin!!!

Eamon and his team have proven to be reliable, available, knowledgeable and effective in their treatment approach with our 20 year old son. My name is Steven Garcia, I’ve never written a review about anything but this place changed my entire life and future. I was 17 when I went to hillcrest treatment facility and heavily addicted to substances. As soon as I stepped inside I was welcome in with open arms. We had fresh meals made daily, fitness, and as well as other activities to get my natural dopamine back up, I made lifelong friendships and lifelong heart touching memories. It was the best time of my life and I stayed sober ever since then and I am 20 now, I bought my own car and I will be moving out into my own apartment soon. The caregivers and therapists and everyone involved was amazing and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I wasn’t able to keep in contact with them due to rules but I think about the caregivers, therapists and my experience that I had there every single day, it was so touching that every day I strive to do better because I think about all the people that helped me at hillcrest, eventually if possible I would even like to get a job there to help kids like I was helped. It was the most amazing heart warming experience I’ve had in my entire life and I would recommend this place a million times to anyone. If anyone from hillcrest that remembers me sees this, thank you for changing my life I truly wouldn’t be in the position I’m in if I never met all of you.

When I came to Maple Moon I was broken and completely empty emotionally and spiritually. My addiction had taken over my entire life and I had absolutely zero hope for my future. The second I stepped off of the plane I was met with a smiling face from the kindest person I had met in a long time. I was instantly taken care of and felt safe. When I arrived at the house I was overwhelmed with how comfortable it felt. I was very well cared for through detoxing; consistently checked on and heard when I had any issues or problems through it. John, the chef, actually came to me everyday and asked what I was able to stomach while going through my withdrawal, he would bring me whatever asked for to help get me through it and get back in my body as soon as possible. Jake and Andrew made me feel comfortable coming to them with any issues or questions and took care of EVERYTHING for me. My only priority thanks to them was to GET BETTER.
Once I was able to attend groups I was even more comfortable. EVERY counselor/facilitator was great! Every staff member has the ability to meet you where you are in your recovery. The majority have been in each phase or spot themselves so it’s a genuine feeling of empathy and understanding that they offer. There is also a network of support that grows between the clients and it makes sharing and listening so easy.
The entire program is ran in a way that makes recovery there feel less institutionalized and more like just simply self growth and realization. It’s a perfect mix of quiet, slow down personal time and active time. The outings made me realize that there is fun and happiness in sobriety. Maple Moon was my home, when I needed it most. This place changed my life, in all seriousness and honesty they truly did. I will forever be grateful and Maple Moon will forever be a part of my recovery story.

Let me see how I start this and I will have write into multiple reviews and google does not allow this much writing in on shot 😊. I checked into Summit Recovery on April 5th and honestly I had no idea what I was walking into. I don't even fully remember everything leading up to it. My wife was the one who called the facility and she told me the program director spoke with me but I have zero memory of that conversation. I believe her though! 😊
What I do remember is being at the airport, my wife dropping me off, and got texts from their program director, that when I landed at Long Beach airport a man with long blonde hair would be picking me up. In my head I was picturing some 250 pound bouncer type, big and intimidating. Well that is not what showed up. This guy was nothing like that. He was sweet, humble and just had a calm energy about him. On the drive over to Summit he kept telling me I was going to be fine. I wasn't so sure about that but something about the way he said it made me want to believe him.
The staff at Summit are something else, and I truly mean that. It wasn't just the nurses and counselors, it was everybody. And I mean everybody. There was one lady on the cleaning staff, I wish I could mention her by name but I don't want to get anyone in trouble, but oh my god she made me feel like I was on vacation. Every single time I saw her she was smiling, full of energy and just made you feel good being around her. That kind of thing is contagious. Not just her, but every person I ran into treated me with respect and made me feel like I actually mattered. I could walk into pretty much anyone's office just to chat and we would end up laughing and joking around. Those moments were priceless to me, more than they probably know. When you are going through something that heavy, those little moments of just being normal and laughing with someone mean everything. Not once did I feel judged or ashamed for being there. They understood and they cared, not just about getting me sober but about me as a person.
Oh my god the food!! Nobody told me about this and I was not expecting it at all. They have a actual chef there cooking fresh every day, lunch and dinner both. Real food, like real real food. Not that cafeteria stuff or something sitting under a heat lamp for hours. Fresh, cooked from scratch every single day. I don't know how he did it but every meal was good. Like really good. After a few days I was actually looking forward to meal time which I did not see coming. That chef deserves his own review honestly. You can tell he took pride in what he was making and that meant a lot when you are going through something so tough. You go chef five stars for you buddy. And the program itself, I cannot say enough good things. But what really got me was the staff. I felt like I had known these people for years, like they were old friends of mine. It never felt like someone just handing you a bunch of papers to read or standing there lecturing you about drinking. These were real people who had lived real lives and gone through real things and they used that to help change the people around them. That is a completely different thing. You cannot fake that and you can feel the difference right away. That is what makes Summit special to me. One staff member I would like to say.. “you go girl .. \” even she told not to call her girl 😊
And the nurses, oh my god where do I start. I cannot thank them enough. Every single one of them knew their stuff but never made you feel like you were just another patient. They were warm, friendly and just easy to be around.
Director of nursing Ms. Carter :) Out internal joke. she not just help me with meds but also with my insurance stuff, cannot repay for all they help.
I wish I can talk about every staff member, but google not allowing it
I will not sugarcoat anything, it was hard, very hard, but I did it. Summit Recovery helped me every single day and never gave up on me. They are real people who will walk with you every step of the way. But you have to want it, that is it, simple as that.

I don't do the review thing. But in this case I will make an exception. When I finally came to the conclusion that perhaps I had enough of a drinking problem that I should enter a program, the biggest obstacle I thought I'd run into was finding a place, dealing with finances, and getting a spot. I gave myself a couple of months to figure it out. Summit was my second call on day one and I was admitted 3 days later. It happened so easily and quickly that I didn't have time to talk myself out of it. That alone was the biggest step on my journey to sobriety.
Upon arrival I had no idea what to expect since I had never been through this process before. Everybody at intake were extremely caring, considerate and helpful. Even though I felt completely at odds with the situation I took a deep breath and kinda dove in.
The staff, from the techs, to the therapists, to the chef, to the specialists...sound baths, chiropractic, yoga etc were outstanding from top to bottom. I learned so much in my 30 days, though the best piece advice came from the housekeeper on my second bewildering day there which was - enjoy your vacation.
I could write a book about what I experienced and learned at Summit. For all the expertise and care I received from the institution there greatest gift came from my fellow clients who were so incredibly giving and well..human. Through them I remembered that I liked people and that going forwards even though I'm the same person I was before I think I'm more aware of what that is and that I can work at being a better version of me.
I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been given this opportunity, and if you are considering treatment there is nothing I can recommend higher than Summit. Good luck.

My 12 year old son stayed at Beachside for two months in the spring and we brought home a changed child. After struggling with some significant trauma, the counselors that worked with my son were truly wonderful. The weekend activities were excellent including boating and trips to amusement parks. During the week, he learned to surf, completed his school curriculum so that he could graduate from his regular education elementary school, and took hikes at beautiful locations around Malibu. He loved the food, and participated in group and music therapy as well as individual counseling. We spoke on the phone most nights and had great weekend visits. My son is now a thriving 7th grader, enjoying school and close relationships with his friends. I would encourage anyone struggling to give your child the gift of this healing environment.

The typical individual seeking addiction treatment can expect to pay much less for outpatient or intensive outpatient services than the averages listed below. There are many ways to pay for drug rehab in Thousand Oaks. Most rehab treatment centers accept cash or self-payment, as well as private health insurance.
