About Still Waters Counseling

Still Waters Counseling is a family friendly outpatient practice in Saline, Michigan, that was founded in 2000 by Dr. Smita Nagpal and Dr. Brian Pearson, licensed psychologists. Serving Saline, Ann Arbor and Adrian, their diverse team offers holistic and evidence based care to children, adolescents, adults and families. They promote healing in a reflective environment. I like that they have telehealth and in person appointments to ensure accessibility. They accept most major insurances, Medicaid and self pay.

Therapies and Treatment Modalities

They provide individual, couples, family and group therapy for depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, grief and relationship issues. They use cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness based therapy and behavioral therapy.

Their specialized services include comprehensive psychological evaluations, autism spectrum disorder testing for adults and children as young as 12 months, and court ordered assessments for substance abuse or custody. Their outpatient substance abuse treatment addresses alcoholism, opioid addiction and co-occurring disorders with therapy and relapse prevention.

Unique Programs

What stands out to me are their unique service offerings. These include biofeedback and neurofeedback training to enhance focus and emotional regulation. They also use integrated psychotherapy and personal training for health concerns like eating or weight issues.

Diverse groups are offered that include queer, trans, non binary and South Asian clients. I like that they have expertise in play therapy, attachment theory and cultural identity.

While some previous clients noted billing or scheduling challenges, clients have commended the supportive staff and personalized care.

This place was amazing, Rita was my psychology nurse practitioner, and was extremely thorough, understanding, and helpful, she gave me a plan for care, and gave me back up plans if what we decided upon together for the original plan did not work out for me. I walked in slightly skeptical because of my one and only interaction with psychology before this, and left feeling so relieved, and feel excited to follow up with her, and am confident my mental health will only improve as long as I stick with our plan. Also excited to see the therapist there because psychology is only half the battle. Thank you Still Waters for making me feel welcome, safe, and secure from the moment I walked in the door.

Almost ten years have passed and I still feel that Dr. Nagpal’s poor judgement and lack of foresight allowed herself to be manipulated by a family member of one of her patients. The damage she allowed to happen because of lack of insight was incredible and left many scars on many people. Nice lady but in the wrong profession in my opinion.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Clinical Services

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.
