I have had a UTI before, so when I was experiencing similar symptoms last week, I knew I needed to go to urgent care. The staff was nice and quick to see me and prescribed me antibiotics to treat my symptoms. Before I left, they told me that my urine will be sent for a culture test, and they will call me after the results to see if I need to change antibiotics that will better address the certain bacteria that is in my urine. The lab emailed the results to me 2 days before I finished my antibiotics. At first glance and without any knowledge of how to interpret the results, I thought nothing of it. I waited for the call from the urgent care to see what my next moves were because they said they would call. I never received a call from them for 4 days, I was done with my antibiotics they prescribed me with, and my symptoms had seemingly resolved. I trusted that if something were wrong or if I needed to change my meds, they would call me. I thought my UTI was resolved. No call, no problem, right? Wrong. Today my symptoms returned with a vengeance. The burning sensation returned, and I now had blood in my urine. I went to the ER to rule out any major concerns. I still had a UTI and now have a bladder infection. I told them the medications that urgent care prescribed to me and showed them my urine culture result. They immediately told me that 1) the antibiotic I received is not the best first line of defense towards a UTI and 2) the one antibiotic that does not work against my specific bacteria strand is the very antibiotic that the urgent care gave me. They were shocked, as was I, that urgent care did not call me after receiving the culture results as the results literally says the antibiotic urgent care gave me is resistant towards this bacteria. Not only that, the urgent care prescribed me pain medication that I made clear to them I did not need for my period cramps, but they said it was good for the UTI pain. I trusted them and took it whenever I had pain in my vaginal area. The ER told me today that that pain medication was for stomach problems, so I was unknowingly taking a pain medication I thought was for my pain on my vagina but was really treating stomach pain that I did not have. The ER also told me the dose for the Ibuprofen I was prescribed from the urgent care is not the correct dose for an adult. I didn't ever need to take the Ibuprofen, but it was yet another moment of negligence that was caught by a different provider. The urgent care providers never introduced themselves to me, so I don't know their names. I did call the urgent care clinic today to tell them to let those individuals know that their negligence cost me more pain, symptoms, time, and money. I was in discomfort and pain from 2 AM today, spent 1.5 hrs in the ER, and had to cancel all my patients' appointments at work because of the amount of pain and discomfort I was in. Had urgent care called me this past Monday when we both received the culture results and prescribed me the appropriate antibiotics that would attack the bacteria, I most likely would not have been in the situation I was in today. I had placed my trust in them 10 days ago at my initial visit, thinking that I would return to this urgent care clinic in the future should I need it because they were nice, close to my home, and provided a good quick solution, but the trust has now been broken. I will not be returning to this urgent care clinic in the future.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Ridding the body of harmful, addictive substances, also known as detoxification, is usually the first phase of recovery. Those going through medically assisted detox can be administered medications by a team of medical professionals who are on-site 24/7 to provide different types of therapies that help mitigate withdrawal symptoms.

Inpatient rehab programs are geared toward clients in early recovery. They also provide intensive support for clients in crisis and those at an increased relapse risk. Clients receive housing and meals while in inpatient care, allowing them to focus solely on their recovery. Most programs prioritize addiction counseling but may draw on various psychotherapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, RBT, trauma therapy, and motivational interviewing. Life skills training and holistic therapies are also common in inpatient care.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance abuse treatment is available in Texas for anyone who's struggling with drug or alcohol addiction. These programs usually provide a comprehensive assessment and individualized treatment plan, and include evidence-based treatments, like therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to reframe unhelpful coping strategies, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help with emotional regulation and stress.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.

Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Treatment that takes a dialectical behavior therapy approach focuses on four strategies. Distress tolerance will help you accept and tolerate intense emotions. Emotional regulation will teach you to manage those emotions. Mindfulness will keep you in the present moment instead of regret or worry. Interpersonal effectiveness will teach you to manage your relationships.

Great place except rude manager. This place is outstanding! My mother has a primary doctor, but we needed a quick 2nd opinion due to her pain. They are very professional and efficient. The front staff was very courteous. The NP Shubi Varghese took her time observing my mom and very knowledgeable. We left feeling at ease and appreciate the great care. March 2025 update: I brought my mother to Right Step because I finally received the covid test results from from Methodist ER via their app. I showed the pcr results from Methodist ER to Right Step and the MANAGER, Pamela, said they would have to do another pcr test which would take another 2 days for results. I asked why they couldn't do a rapid test and she said because Methodist ER did a pcr test. Why does it matter what another healthcare facility does when my elderly disabled mother needs help today. Pamela said if we didn't want the pcr test, then we could leave. Pamela was unsympathetic and rude. NP Pillai and Joirvis stepped in to assist. They were patient and caring. They performed the covid rapid test which came back positive. NP Pillai was able to treat my mom.

Response from the owner
Thank you very much for your appreciation. Happy to know that we were able to ease your concerns and meet your healthcare needs to your utmost satisfaction.
