My son spent a year and three months at Spruce Mountain Inn, and I have nothing to say but positive things about it. The entire experience was, for us, a miracle. We had tried everything to treat his bipolar disorder, and I was desperate. In my search for a program that would help my son, Spruce stood out because it was a smaller program for people aged 18-28 that had been started in the 1980s and directed to the present day by the same incredible woman, and it seemed a good fit for my son. Surprisingly, it was also one of the least expensive as well. As a physician, I looked into SMI’s credentials and its personnel qualifications closely and was satisfied even before my son went there, and I was not disappointed. My son went from a severely depressed and sometimes suicidal individual who had no social interaction, was unable to keep a job, and basically felt hopeless about his life, to a confident, compassionate, outgoing, hardworking, and happy person. With the right medication (finally!) and the in-depth and insightful therapy he underwent, plus the love and care the staff at Spruce gave him, my son is now the person he was always meant to be without the bipolar disorder in charge of his brain. He is now able to live independently with a job and his own apartment, and manages his whole life with only the care and support any parents would give a child of 22. Spruce Mountain Inn literally changed his whole life, and because of that, ours as well. As a physician, I could not be more impressed with the amazing turnaround his time at Spruce made possible for him. As a parent, I could not be more grateful to them for giving him the chance to have a life. Without Spruce Mountain Inn, my son would still be a severely depressed individual completely dependent on his parents with no prospects and no hope of having a normal life. With Spruce Mountain Inn, my son now has a bright and happy future ahead of him. We will always be incredibly thankful to them for their help; it was literally a life-saver. Update 5 years later: My son is now 27 and an area manager for a large inventory company in Michigan. He has been doing fantastically well, able to weather the ups and downs of life thanks to the skills he learned at Spruce. At this point his bipolar disorder, while on medication and in counseling as needed, has only a small effect on his daily life. He is a happy, healthy and social person with a full life and an upwardly mobile job. Thank you again, Spruce Mountain!

I highly recommend Spruce for any young adult experiencing deep, unrelenting depression, as was our son. He went on his own volition, after years of trying everything else, at the recommendation of a local psychiatrist. And he dove into the program there. Everything about Spruce is intentional and thoughtful - the setting, the counselors, the program, interactions with the outside world and other residents. Our son's therapist was a perfect match for him, and us. He met people there who changed his life and with whom he is still in touch, and he began the process of becoming the adult he was meant to be. We scoffed at the idea that he would be there longer than a month or two, but his stay of seven months was perfect, and he left armed with life tools that are serving him well. As his therapist said, "He got a Ph.D. in himself!" We will be forever grateful to Spruce.

Maple Leaf Farms has been the ONLY rehab facility I've been in that I can't speak highly enough about!! The staff is so caring and genuinely is concerned about each patient and their individual needs. I made the decision to commit myself to their care in the winter or 2005. I'd been through the gambit of these types of facilities more times than i can remember, I didn't hold great expectations as i wasn't fully certain that they could tell me something I didn't already know or hadn't already heard. i was from Connecticut, released from Niantic womans' prison into the custody of a family member, who lived in Vermont. I wasn't remanded to complete a rehab. but in order to start to get my teenage daughter back in my life I agreed to do what they wanted. I never experienced such a verity of approaches to ease the discomfort of withdrawing from these hideous drugs! I was blown away that the curriculum my counselor had designed for me was working. Mostly in that I had fun going about my day with the other patients, people that where "like me" and we picked each other up off the floor when things got hard. Because if You don't find yourself experiencing uncomfortable feelings then you should take a better look at the facility your in!! It takes work , and Maplel Leaf made sure that when we worked hard we relaxed hard too!! Hands down BEST FACILITY YOU COULD EVER BE BLESSED ENOUGH TO BE IN!!! P.S. If Rebecca T reads this, I've been going crazy I lost your number hit me up on Facebook under Rebecca Wilson I've got so much to tell you!! I love you and miss you terribly!!! Rebecca Svatik Wilson

Home Intervention, or HI, is a part of Washington County Mental Health. It is a place where someone who is in a state of crisis Mentally or Emotionally. An alternative to the Inpatient Psychiatry Unit, it is a bit more of a relaxed atmosphere than one would experience in the Inpatient Unit. Patients are, however, still under careful supervision, but it is designed to be for those who are in a state of crisis, but not as much of a danger to themselves or others and thus requiring slightly less supervision than someone in the hospital. I spent about a week and a half there and was very pleasantly surprised. The staff were very professional and very helpful. They were also pleasant and truly friendly, not just "nice" because they are supposed to be. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who is having a difficult time, as everyone does at some points in their lives.

The River Rock program is incredible. The clinicians and staff are knowledgeable, compassionate and passionate about what they do. I attended the IOP program a year ago. I want to add a personal review of River Rock under my name because I’m truly happy of the program and what it has done for my family. I don’t necessarily identify as being an alcoholic but used substances as a way to cope with bad times. Through the intensive outpatient therapy program River Rock provides I was able to gain a clear understanding of how to navigate problems at home. I went through the process a few years ago and then my husband felt compelled (thankfully) to do so after. Since then, we’ve been able to navigate life in a more healthy manner. They use a multi-faceted approach of different therapies including CBT, DBT, life coaching, adventure therapy, group sessions and one-on-one therapy to make sure that people get the help they need! We’ve been able to create a more holistic life that benefits us and use the tools given to get through hard times. We are more connected and practice self care including cold plunges and are building a space to install a sauna at home. Communication is better, my husband has been alcohol free for over a year and a half and we are able to navigate life much better. If you are questioning getting help in any capacity, I would recommend at least reaching out to River Rock. There is no shame in wanting to take steps to achieving a more healthy outlook on life. They have the resources to meet you where you are. With love, Kim.
