This place may seem terrible in the midst of depression or other sorts of episodes. It certainly did for me. However they really HELPED me. Which is way more than I can say for any other place I've been, and I saw this clear as day once my mood stabilized. I've made so much progress, and I can thank HCRS for most of it. Dr. Carpenter has been the absolute best doctor I've ever had hands down. No one can compare to Her. Really bothers me how Savids treated her like nothing but an outlet for them to make money. She goes above and beyond to care for her patients and I'm. Very sad to see they treated her like a number, just like they treat most of their patients

Over the years, I have referred many families to MVTC. From their first point of contact with Everett, through their entire treatment stay, the client and family are treated with the utmost care and compassion. Their clinical team is highly skilled and always finds the time to collaborate with other providers. I trust MVTC to hold families through an incredibly vulnerable time and to approach each young person with respect, warmth, and a deep understanding of their struggles. Families often share that their experience has been life-changing.

Mountain Valley truly changed my life forever. I came to them overcome with anxiety and hopelessness that made life feel impossible and worthless. The bubbly and sweet girl I once was completely hidden by my mental illness. But Mountain Valley brought that happy and optimistic side of me back, and gave me so many more invaluable gifts and insights. At Mountain Valley, I learned so much, including skills to help me manage my intense mood fluctuations, insights about common patterns in my anxiety, how to tackle my fear head on and even see it as a tool rather than a weakness, and I learned when and how to properly reach out for help when I needed it. But more than anything, at Mountain Valley I learned what it truly meant to be loved. You will never find a place as loving as MV. From the supportive and enthusiastic staff to the other residents who I now call some of my best friends, everyone in the community truly cares so much for one another and wants to see each other succeed. Surrounded by so much care and affection, I learned how to love myself and be optimistic about my life once again. Even being almost 2 years post grad from Mountain Valley, I still feel constantly supported by the MV community and I know I always have a home in beautiful Plainfield, NH. If you or your loved one is considering Mountain Valley, I truly could not recommend it more!!!

MV was the first treatment center I ever attended. I was terrified going in—I had never been away from home, and I was struggling deeply with depression, OCD, and anxiety. I had graduated from high school in 2023, taken a gap year, and was preparing to start at Franklin & Marshall College when I hit my rock bottom. Together, my parents and I made the difficult decision that I needed more intensive support. Looking back now, those five months at MV became the most transformative period of my life. I met incredible people—both residents and staff—who made me feel seen, understood, and supported. During my time at MV, I was able to heal and reconnect with the core of my values. Of course, there were moments when I felt frustrated with the program; treatment is a vulnerable space that asks you to confront your fears, your patterns, and the safety behaviors that have led your life. But MV offered me the safety, structure, and guidance I needed to work through that discomfort. They gave me the push no one else could. MV helped me to realize just how much I needed consistency, caring accountability, and firm but compassionate support. Today, my OCD is so much better, and although my anxiety is still around (it’s always going to be a pesky little friend), I’ve learned how to work with it instead of letting it control me. I’m currently living in Portland, ME, in a transitional living program where I’m taking classes at SMCC, working at Anthropologie, and learning how to support myself. To see the progress from a year ago—when I couldn’t even leave my room—to where I am now is incredibly empowering. And best of all, I've realized that the strength I needed was already within me; I just needed some help remembering that it was there. None of this would have been possible without the foundation MV helped me build. I am forever grateful to everyone there. It genuinely changed my life. P.S. Here’s a photo of me at the peak of Mt. Moosilauke—best hike ever!

My adult son and I did exhaustive research on community-based residential treatment plans that could capably provide applicable programming and psychiatric care, while delivering a clear step down plan. Averte checked all the boxes… I loved the fact that Steve started our discussion from a position of "how can we help your son ? " , Rather than "what's wrong with him". If you are seeking adult community-based residential treatment, you should definitely give consideration to Averte.

Averte clinical staff are kind, compassionate and responsive. They truly care about the people in need of their services as well as their family members. As soon as I reached out for help, Steve called me within an hour and then was planning a visit within days to assess the situation (which was a 2.5+ hour drive). The team wraps their services around the person in need until they are stable. Amy, the Clinical Program Coordinator even took time from her vacation to talk to me prior to my family members discharge. That kind of support is invaluable during a time of crisis stabilization and the level of support is reassuring for everyone involved. One should never hesitate to reach out for help and if you are lucky, the help will come from Averte.

I went to Antrim House about five months ago, and I can honestly say it changed my life. When I arrived, I was in a really unstable place and didn’t know what my future would look like. The staff treated me with respect, patience, and real compassion from day one. What stood out most was how much they genuinely cared — not just about getting me through the program, but about helping me build a foundation for long-term sobriety. The structure, accountability, and support made a huge difference for me. I learned how to be honest, how to take responsibility, and how to start creating stability in my life. Today I’m five months sober, and a big part of that is because of the tools and support I received there. If you’re on the fence about getting help, this place can truly be a turning point. I’m grateful for the staff here and for everything Antrim House did for me.

His Mansion is a work based, live-in program that teaches how to overcome addictions by fully relying on God. I commited myself to growth and change and I have been clean and sober since becoming a resident on November 20, 2023. During the year, I learned to cast all my worries upon the Lord and rely on Him to give me strength. I faced the hurts of my past, rededicated my life to Christ, and was baptized in June of 2024. Before graduating in October of 2024, I learned patience and received joy that no one can take from me. This isn’t a bad long term rehabilitation program if you are looking for a program that is Bible based rather than Bill Wilson’s “big book”, but it’s by no means perfect despite all the 5 star ratings. Granite Recovery might be better for long term sobriety. It has a higher success rate. In all honesty, I did graduate but I probably should have been hospitalized for exhaustion afterward. You have to work really hard here- both physically and emotionally. Keep an open mind but don’t expect a happy ever after- it isn’t for everybody.

The experience I had at the Riverbank House changed my life forever in so many ways. I arrived at RBH in February 2016 and begrudgingly agreed to stay for 28 days, I ended up living there for almost 4 years because I just didn’t want to leave. The bonds and friendships I formed there still continue to this day. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity at a new life, and how to truly enjoy that life, that was provided to me by the Riverbank. My time at RBH was filled with compassion and laughter and memories I will always cherish. I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life, but going to the Riverbank was certainly not one of them. My son spent a year and three months at Spruce Mountain Inn, and I have nothing to say but positive things about it. The entire experience was, for us, a miracle. We had tried everything to treat his bipolar disorder, and I was desperate. In my search for a program that would help my son, Spruce stood out because it was a smaller program for people aged 18-28 that had been started in the 1980s and directed to the present day by the same incredible woman, and it seemed a good fit for my son. Surprisingly, it was also one of the least expensive as well. As a physician, I looked into SMI’s credentials and its personnel qualifications closely and was satisfied even before my son went there, and I was not disappointed. My son went from a severely depressed and sometimes suicidal individual who had no social interaction, was unable to keep a job, and basically felt hopeless about his life, to a confident, compassionate, outgoing, hardworking, and happy person. With the right medication (finally!) and the in-depth and insightful therapy he underwent, plus the love and care the staff at Spruce gave him, my son is now the person he was always meant to be without the bipolar disorder in charge of his brain. He is now able to live independently with a job and his own apartment, and manages his whole life with only the care and support any parents would give a child of 22. Spruce Mountain Inn literally changed his whole life, and because of that, ours as well. As a physician, I could not be more impressed with the amazing turnaround his time at Spruce made possible for him. As a parent, I could not be more grateful to them for giving him the chance to have a life. Without Spruce Mountain Inn, my son would still be a severely depressed individual completely dependent on his parents with no prospects and no hope of having a normal life. With Spruce Mountain Inn, my son now has a bright and happy future ahead of him. We will always be incredibly thankful to them for their help; it was literally a life-saver. Update 5 years later: My son is now 27 and an area manager for a large inventory company in Michigan. He has been doing fantastically well, able to weather the ups and downs of life thanks to the skills he learned at Spruce. At this point his bipolar disorder, while on medication and in counseling as needed, has only a small effect on his daily life. He is a happy, healthy and social person with a full life and an upwardly mobile job. Thank you again, Spruce Mountain!

I highly recommend Spruce for any young adult experiencing deep, unrelenting depression, as was our son. He went on his own volition, after years of trying everything else, at the recommendation of a local psychiatrist. And he dove into the program there. Everything about Spruce is intentional and thoughtful - the setting, the counselors, the program, interactions with the outside world and other residents. Our son's therapist was a perfect match for him, and us. He met people there who changed his life and with whom he is still in touch, and he began the process of becoming the adult he was meant to be. We scoffed at the idea that he would be there longer than a month or two, but his stay of seven months was perfect, and he left armed with life tools that are serving him well. As his therapist said, "He got a Ph.D. in himself!" We will be forever grateful to Spruce.
