My daughter went through the Mountain Valley treatment program for her anxiety. Mountain Valley provides excellent, evidenced based treatment for anxiety and OCD to teens and young adults ages 13-21 in a beautiful, warm setting. The staff: directors, clinicians, and residential staff, are intelligent, skilled, compassionate, and wise. Not only do they provide great treatment in the form of exposure response treatment, CBT, DBT, and ACT; they explore the larger life journey, values, and meaning for each resident. They connect the residents to nature in their beautiful NH setting, and on their farm with animals. They have a wonderful chef and integrate healthy food and life style choices. They have a three phase treatment structure that aligns the treatment process with the idea of a heroic journey, and have ceremonies to mark entering each phase (a fire ceremony and an ice bath ceremony). They foster an atmosphere among the residents that allow them to develop community with others and deep connections. My daughter not only learned the tools to address her anxiety that she will carry forward, she learned to connect with herself and her values, and to tolerate her distress and challenges with courage. In addition, they offer a parent support and education program that allows us to learn about anxiety, supports us, and gives us the tools to parent our children with significant anxiety. They also offer a transitions program for the residents after they leave to bridge the return to their lives at school, home, and in their communities, My daughter’s experience at Mountain Valley was life changing and healing. I recommend it without reservation for kids with severe anxiety and OCD, and am so grateful for her and our experience at Mountain Valley.

Mountain Valley has truly been a lifesaver to our family! It is a special place made up of special people who have both the expertise and the caring hearts to support both their residents and their families during a very difficult time. They were able to turn my daughter’s bright light back on that had been dimmed due to anxiety and depression. They educated her to help her understand what she was going through, gave her coping skills for when she experiences her highs and lows, and helped her to learn strategies and routines that allow her to maintain a healthier lifestyle. They also helped and supported our family to learn what we could do to better support her. In connecting with the other residents and forming incredibly close friendships, for the first time, our daughter didn’t feel alone in what she was going through. The therapists and staff at Mountain Valley are unmatched in the way they care about and connect with the residents. My daughter really trusted them and finally had hope that she could get better. On top of all that, she loved being there and had so much fun in all their activities. I am forever grateful to Mountain Valley!!!!

This is my daughter’s second half of her review – she ran out of space because she had too many great things to say!! (look under “anonymous”) Every staff member becomes a mentor, every resident becomes a sibling, every animal becomes your new best friend (the sheep are fluffy dogs, the donkeys are so sweet, the chickens are annoying little cutie pies, the rabbits are calm hoppy buddies, and the goats are adorable monkeys). Mountain Valley is a one-of-a-kind “milieu” — it’s truly a family. My friends from MVTC are some of the best people I will ever have the pleasure of meeting. Months could go by without contact, but I know they’re always there for me like nothing’s changed. The work at Mountain Valley can be difficult, and it’s the most amazingly transformative time of your life. My happy place is Mountain Valley. To know that there is such an incredible place existing so full of empathetic, kind people gives me hope for the future of this world. Hearing about the troubled teen industry, I’d gone into treatment terrified of abuse, neglect, and more. I feel heartbroken for people who experience those things, and I also feel heartbroken for a suffering teenager who lets those stories stop them from going to Mountain Valley. It scares me to think of where I would be (if I would even still be here) without the people who saved me at Mountain Valley. The love and joy MVTC brings me is immeasurable, incomparable. I wish everyone in the world could experience Mountain Valley, because being so seen, loved, accepted, heard, and genuine is so rare in this world. Every single person at Mountain Valley is changing the world. I owe them everything and have so much gratitude for each and every one of them. If you are reading this and considering Mountain Valley, know that treatment is difficult, scary, and not linear. AND know that out there in Plainfield, New Hampshire, there’s a group of people that would be so happy to welcome you to their family as you shine your brightest light into the world.

This was the first adult psych trip I’d had since turning 18. Going in I was very nervous as my last visit to a behavioral health center for minors was unpleasant to say the least. I can say today though that this was the most comfortable stay I’ve had in a psychiatric unit and I left feeling like my problems mattered while I was there. I was able to meet with a team of training med students and professional psychiatrists at least once a day with vitals taken daily and medication given daily if prescribed. I feel like I understand my mental health a lot better through the optional group therapies which allowed for open discussion between a therapist and all the patients. You were able to see both a professional and personal solution to different problems, such as; coping with grief or cognitive distortions, while sharing your own story if you choose to do so. Often nights the other patients and I would gather around the table and play games or watch TV together while having conversation. The nurses did not specify bedtime or wake time (though most slept before 11 PM and woke for breakfast at 8 AM willingly) making the experience very personalized. Upon leaving I was also provided with a bridge program to meet with a psychiatrist on unit until I can be transferred to an outpatient provider to continue my meds. I was also given written instructions on how to fill out the new patient intake forms at the care center nearest to me making me able to attain a primary care physician! I left there having made a few friends who never failed to lift my spirits or offer a helping hand when I was having a bad day. Overall, I feel better equipped to care for myself both physically and mentally when it had overwhelmed me so much just a week prior. Thank you to the whole team and a special thanks to nurses Melissa and Allison, Ashley, and Dr. Schwartz. These were some members of the staff who left a lasting impression on me going above and beyond to make me feel comfortable in my stay.

I think I pissed off everyone that works here, but that's my stuff. Some of the best people I'll ever meet, even if just briefly like the speakers, I met this summer at the Plymouth House. Thank you specifically to David, to Adam, to Joe, to Hillary, to Carolee, to Tallya x a million, to the techs(Finn, Matt, Chelsea, Sam, Devin .. you really made me feel like it was okay when I was wigging out). And thank you to the monitors. There is always more work to be done, but I am sober. I make my bed everyday. I am grateful. ETA - thank you so much to the chefs, you pour your heart out and it shows. The boy from Alabama (Nate, I think?).. You are very talented, the boy that rocks the Atlanta gear, I was so impressed that you made donuts from scratch... But the female chef... This place quite literally saved my life. I struggled for many years with substance abuse. I tried for several years to get clean on my own but was never successful. I have nothing but great things to say about the Plymouth House if you are serious about wanting to heal yourself. Detox and Rehab are never an easy decision. You know that you want to better yourself but the process is never an easy one. The staff and clinicians at PH are very understanding non judgemental. Some have been in the trenches at times which makes the care and help they offer much easier. The food is great and they are truly genuine across the board not to mention you couldn't ask for a more tranquil environment to heal yourself. No better place to assist you on your journey to recovery

I cannot say enough good about Aware Recovery Care going back to February 2023. My first involvement was with their In-Home Detox team consisting of RN Jenn Aguire and nurses Tabitha and Krystal who came to my home for at least seven straight days to get me detoxed. This was critical to me as at the time I was unwilling to enter in residence detox having had a negative experience in the past. I credit them with saving my life. Their kind and compassionate care showed me that there was indeed some hope for me going forward. Following detox Aware counselors Sam Hayes and Amber Gelinas continued home visits working very closely with me in keeping me on the road to sobriety. I also received monthly assessments by an RN and a session with a Psychiatrist. After six months my insurance lapsed but thankfully I was eligible to enter their Alumni Program consisting of multiple Zoom meetings during the week with Aware professionals. In addition they also host various events in different locations with other Alumni of the program. You always feel that Aware is right there with you every step of the way. I could carry on much longer but let me finish by saying that I consider the Aware professionals I have dealt with to be more than just counselors but as friends as well. I am welcome back in the lives of my children and most importantly my Grandchildren. On November 24 I will be collecting my Nine Month sobriety chip at my AA Home Group. I credit a great deal of my success on Aware Recovery.

My case manager Andy was very helpful and he heard me out. The facility itself was very basic, lots of meetings, enough free time for smoke breaks and basketball. The food was pretty good from what I remember. I will say there was a lot of medication, (sometimes meds that I feel like we didn't need but was given anyways). I was in inpatient for 2 weeks and the last two weeks was a house off property where we got phone access and got to make our own meals, which was a great transition. Overall, I would say that my experience was pretty good. I am still sober today...5 years later. I think that to be successful in staying sober you need aftercare, no one stays sober after 30-45 days of inpatient. A sober house afterwards is a necessity. Hope this helps!

I am eternally grateful for Canterbury behavioral health, especially for Jenn Rocha. When I admitted, I was at the lowest point in my life, hopeless, scared, and vulnerable, I had nothing left to give and no hope for the future. Jenn Rocha literally saved my life. If it hadn't been for her holding hope for me when I had none, supporting me, encouraging me, coaching, advocating, cheering me on and pushing me in the ways I needed to be pushed, with love support and encouragement, I would not have stayed and gotten the help I so desperately needed. Everything that could go wrong did, and her support and guidance helped me find a glimmer of hope again. She loved me unconditionally at my lowest, without judgement, when I needed it the most. Her genuine desire to help, and her authenticity gave me the most beautiful gift of learning to trust again. She will be forever in my heart for everything she did for me, and there are no words that are powerful enough to express my gratitude for her and everything she did for me. Yes, the program works if you work it, but it works even better with the compassion of the staff that work at Canterbury. It is truly a blessing to finally have a residential program for mental health in NH. From the top down, the staff genuinely care and want to help, and it is an amazing program. I hope to never need it again, however if I ever do, this is where I will go.

I had been sober for 9 years, taking Suboxone but it was all a lie. I relapsed and everything came crashing down. I went to jail, almost caught a serious charge, was getting evicted from my apartment, my car ready to be repossessed and my life just seemed to spiral out of control. I was on the verge of suicide. I decided to go back to the methadone clinic and start IOP. My journey of healing began. It's just a slip, I will get back up even stronger than before. I know now who is important in my life and who isn't. If I want to change I need to start healing and loving myself first. Something I've never done, everyone else was first. Now it's time for me to be number one. My life matters I don't want to die.

The Brattleboro Retreat saved my life. It is a true treasure, especially for a mental health hospital. The bad reviews make me sad, because I think this place is misrepresented. I’ve been to bad mental health hospitals, and this is not one of them. We got to do art, music, and have outside time. It is such a beautiful setting right on lake with beautiful views. It was built in the 1800s as a mental health hospital, and I was told they intentionally built it at this location with all these huge windows because they know that being around nature can help heal people. It really made a difference for me being able to see the snow and nature out the window, instead of just being trapped with white walls and fluorescent lights. The people really care. What I learned when I was there is if you’re serious and you put the work in, and you take the advice that they’re giving you, and you participate in group therapy and individual therapy, and do the work, you can get better and you can heal and you can make sure you never have to go to a mental health hospital again. Some people would just be there and blow it off and not take it seriously and complain the whole time and not get better. You get back what you put in, and The Brattleboro Retreat is the most beautiful and safe setting to recover and heal in.

Vermont's beautiful scenery helps as well. I remember they had great food as well, plenty of whole foods and cakes if you like processed sweets. I believe Vermont is best for farm fresh overall. I have since grew stronger in my faith and I give glory to God for putting me in recovery, but I admire the peer specialists and professional workers of Valley Vista. It is a great place for the underprivileged to afford. Thank you!

New Season’s Concord Metro Treatment Center, located in Concord, New Hampshire, specializes in treating individuals with opioid addictions. I think the staff does a great job at New Season Concord, N. H. I constantly hear people talking bad about the clinic, and just putting it down. My thoughts would be that more then likely they probably would never open such a place of there wasn't proof of it working. Or should I say, if the success rate wasn't there. But anyways, in all reality, it honestly is what you make of it. You basically figure out how you want your goal of sobriety to go, with the help needed from the Doctor, Nurses, and the rest of the staff. And at the end of the day, you just continue to reach for the stars and never give up! Thank You again, New Season Patient

Spring Lake Ranch was there for me when I did not know where to go or how to pick up my life after a bout of severe depression and weeks of ECT treatment. The Ranch provided me a space to heal amongst community. Even if I felt terrible, at the end of the day, I got out of bed, worked, engaged with community and was productive. That was an essential building block to my recovery. The Ranch has a big heart. They root for you and help you long after your stay. Thank you Ranch! Stacy
