Plainfield, NH | Mountain Valley Treatment Center, located in Plainfield, New Hampshire is a non-profit alcohol and drug rehab that offers treatment for a variety of substance abuse addictions including co-occurring mental health disorders. They offer residential care providing long term support for addiction recovery. Additional levels of care offered include rela | Treatments Programs Payment Options | MV was the first treatment center I ever attended. I was terrified going in—I had never been away from home, and I was struggling deeply with depression, OCD, and anxiety. I had graduated from high school in 2023, taken a gap year, and was preparing to start at Franklin & Marshall College when I hit my rock bottom. Together, my parents and I made the difficult decision that I needed more intensive support. Looking back now, those five months at MV became the most transformative period of my life.
I met incredible people—both residents and staff—who made me feel seen, understood, and supported. During my time at MV, I was able to heal and reconnect with the core of my values. Of course, there were moments when I felt frustrated with the program; treatment is a vulnerable space that asks you to confront your fears, your patterns, and the safety behaviors that have led your life. But MV offered me the safety, structure, and guidance I needed to work through that discomfort. They gave me the push no one else could. MV helped me to realize just how much I needed consistency, caring accountability, and firm but compassionate support.
Today, my OCD is so much better, and although my anxiety is still around (it’s always going to be a pesky little friend), I’ve learned how to work with it instead of letting it control me. I’m currently living in Portland, ME, in a transitional living program where I’m taking classes at SMCC, working at Anthropologie, and learning how to support myself. To see the progress from a year ago—when I couldn’t even leave my room—to where I am now is incredibly empowering. And best of all, I've realized that the strength I needed was already within me; I just needed some help remembering that it was there. None of this would have been possible without the foundation MV helped me build. I am forever grateful to everyone there. It genuinely changed my life.
P.S. Here’s a photo of me at the peak of Mt. Moosilauke—best hike ever!

My daughter went through the Mountain Valley treatment program for her anxiety. Mountain Valley provides excellent, evidenced based treatment for anxiety and OCD to teens and young adults ages 13-21 in a beautiful, warm setting. The staff: directors, clinicians, and residential staff, are intelligent, skilled, compassionate, and wise. Not only do they provide great treatment in the form of exposure response treatment, CBT, DBT, and ACT; they explore the larger life journey, values, and meaning for each resident. They connect the residents to nature in their beautiful NH setting, and on their farm with animals. They have a wonderful chef and integrate healthy food and life style choices. They have a three phase treatment structure that aligns the treatment process with the idea of a heroic journey, and have ceremonies to mark entering each phase (a fire ceremony and an ice bath ceremony). They foster an atmosphere among the residents that allow them to develop community with others and deep connections. My daughter not only learned the tools to address her anxiety that she will carry forward, she learned to connect with herself and her values, and to tolerate her distress and challenges with courage. In addition, they offer a parent support and education program that allows us to learn about anxiety, supports us, and gives us the tools to parent our children with significant anxiety. They also offer a transitions program for the residents after they leave to bridge the return to their lives at school, home, and in their communities, My daughter’s experience at Mountain Valley was life changing and healing. I recommend it without reservation for kids with severe anxiety and OCD, and am so grateful for her and our experience at Mountain Valley.

Mountain Valley has truly been a lifesaver to our family! It is a special place made up of special people who have both the expertise and the caring hearts to support both their residents and their families during a very difficult time. They were able to turn my daughter’s bright light back on that had been dimmed due to anxiety and depression. They educated her to help her understand what she was going through, gave her coping skills for when she experiences her highs and lows, and helped her to learn strategies and routines that allow her to maintain a healthier lifestyle. They also helped and supported our family to learn what we could do to better support her. In connecting with the other residents and forming incredibly close friendships, for the first time, our daughter didn’t feel alone in what she was going through. The therapists and staff at Mountain Valley are unmatched in the way they care about and connect with the residents. My daughter really trusted them and finally had hope that she could get better. On top of all that, she loved being there and had so much fun in all their activities. I am forever grateful to Mountain Valley!!!!

Lebanon, NH | Dartmouth Hitchcock Psychiatric in Lebanon, New Hampshire is a place where you can get outpatient support that meets substance use concerns with compassion and clinical care. Their experienced staff are available to listen carefully and offer space for honest conversations about what you’re experiencing. This is a setting where your concerns are | Treatments Programs Payment Options | This was the first adult psych trip I’d had since turning 18. Going in I was very nervous as my last visit to a behavioral health center for minors was unpleasant to say the least. I can say today though that this was the most comfortable stay I’ve had in a psychiatric unit and I left feeling like my problems mattered while I was there.
I was able to meet with a team of training med students and professional psychiatrists at least once a day with vitals taken daily and medication given daily if prescribed. I feel like I understand my mental health a lot better through the optional group therapies which allowed for open discussion between a therapist and all the patients. You were able to see both a professional and personal solution to different problems, such as; coping with grief or cognitive distortions, while sharing your own story if you choose to do so.
Often nights the other patients and I would gather around the table and play games or watch TV together while having conversation. The nurses did not specify bedtime or wake time (though most slept before 11 PM and woke for breakfast at 8 AM willingly) making the experience very personalized.
Upon leaving I was also provided with a bridge program to meet with a psychiatrist on unit until I can be transferred to an outpatient provider to continue my meds. I was also given written instructions on how to fill out the new patient intake forms at the care center nearest to me making me able to attain a primary care physician!
I left there having made a few friends who never failed to lift my spirits or offer a helping hand when I was having a bad day. Overall, I feel better equipped to care for myself both physically and mentally when it had overwhelmed me so much just a week prior.
Thank you to the whole team and a special thanks to nurses Melissa and Allison, Ashley, and Dr. Schwartz. These were some members of the staff who left a lasting impression on me going above and beyond to make me feel comfortable in my stay.

I spent 6 days in detox and 24 days in the Residential program, and the entire experience exceeded every expectation I had.
Having a full detox program with real clinicians on site was a game changer for me. The staff paid close attention to each guest’s needs, mine included, and that level of care truly made all the difference. From leadership to support staff, everyone was approachable, supportive, and fully present. They always made time when I needed it, which meant a lot during such a tough chapter of my life.
The team approach, Case Management, a Therapist, and a 12-Step resource dedicated specifically to me had a huge impact. Their focus on the Little Big Book really grounded the whole program and helped me find direction again.
The campus is beautiful, peaceful, and spacious, and the food… unbelievable. Every meal felt thoughtful and genuinely nourishing.

I cannot say enough good about Aware Recovery Care going back to February 2023. My first involvement was with their In-Home Detox team consisting of RN Jenn Aguire and nurses Tabitha and Krystal who came to my home for at least seven straight days to get me detoxed. This was critical to me as at the time I was unwilling to enter in residence detox having had a negative experience in the past. I credit them with saving my life. Their kind and compassionate care showed me that there was indeed some hope for me going forward. Following detox Aware counselors Sam Hayes and Amber Gelinas continued home visits working very closely with me in keeping me on the road to sobriety. I also received monthly assessments by an RN and a session with a Psychiatrist. After six months my insurance lapsed but thankfully I was eligible to enter their Alumni Program consisting of multiple Zoom meetings during the week with Aware professionals. In addition they also host various events in different locations with other Alumni of the program. You always feel that Aware is right there with you every step of the way. I could carry on much longer but let me finish by saying that I consider the Aware professionals I have dealt with to be more than just counselors but as friends as well. I am welcome back in the lives of my children and most importantly my Grandchildren. On November 24 I will be collecting my Nine Month sobriety chip at my AA Home Group. I credit a great deal of my success on Aware Recovery.

The people here have absolutely horrid grammar. The only good thing about this place was the deck swap card in uno and the weetabix... unfortunately, King Jessica/Julian would limit my eating habits.
In all seriousness, when I first got to Brattleboro I was extremely nervous from the reviews I saw online being majorly negative (which then became an ongoing joke between me, my peers, and the staff - hence the beginning). That being said, for me, I found my stay there to be helpful and a good life experience to know that there's always someone who'll be there, even if you don't know them. I had lots of fun and made friends I'm still in contact with today. The staff is wonderful and only wants to help you, but I know this could be very different for other people going in there. So if you're like me, reading reviews as you drive over, just know that the living there can be hard and sometimes the kitchen will forget you ordered a grilled cheese, but you're there to get help and the staff is there to give you help so if you're cooperative, going to groups, and working on improvement - you're undeniably going to get better. Yes, some of the reviews are right and it can be a little scary to watch people be restrained, but you need to focus on yourself there.

The staff were amazing, it was difficult with the forced isolation and strict rules but after a while I realized it was necessary. Forced quiet when I couldn’t quiet myself. Caring and compassionate I needed them and proud to say I’m an Ally (LGBTQIA+)
One suggestion PLEASE ! Have everyone sign a release of info to their PCP right off on the day of discharge. Get the process started because it is a long and broken system to navigate and this will shorten it. It’s the patient who suffers from the 30 days plus process and the communication and paperwork that it takes for the two to talk to each other. It’s just one less thing we have to remember or concentrate on while trying to get back into the world again.

I had been sober for 9 years, taking Suboxone but it was all a lie. I relapsed and everything came crashing down. I went to jail, almost caught a serious charge, was getting evicted from my apartment, my car ready to be repossessed and my life just seemed to spiral out of control. I was on the verge of suicide. I decided to go back to the methadone clinic and start IOP. My journey of healing began. It's just a slip, I will get back up even stronger than before. I know now who is important in my life and who isn't. If I want to change I need to start healing and loving myself first. Something I've never done, everyone else was first. Here, their levels of care include residential and outpa | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I have read some of the negative reviews on here and the only thing I can say is when your going through detox every bad thing that happens is greatly magnified and things are not always as bad as you think. It’s a detox not day camp. If you are truly being sick and tired of being sick and tired and you want help getting clean and sober I would suggest going to Farnum. This place definitely saved my life. If you are looking for a place that will help in your recovery then please reach out to them. I didn’t get it right the first time so I’ve been there twice over the course of 5 years but both times I’ve been there all of the staff were all very helpful and caring. To anyone reading this “you are not alone and recovery is at your fingertips.” Good luck!

Valley Vista in Bradford, VT is a beautiful place. I attended I'd say 8 years ago but I was not mature enough to appreciate it then. I appreciate it now. It is a clean, safe facility with helpful and kind staff. When I was there they treated dual diagnosis, which I believe is a must to truly comprehend the main cause of addiction. Vermont's beautiful scenery helps as well. I remember they had great food as well, plenty of whole foods and cakes if you like processed sweets. I believe Vermont is best for farm fresh overall.
I have since grew stronger in my faith and I give glory to God for putting me in recovery, but I admire the peer specialists and professional workers of Valley Vista. It is a great place for the underprivileged to afford. Thank you!

Concord, NH | New Season’s Concord Metro Treatment Center, located in Concord, New Hampshire, specializes in treating individuals with opioid addictions. Although this is only an outpatient clinic, that can be seen as a plus since it would give you the ability to return home after a day of sessions in order to continue school, work, and whatever other commitme | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I think the staff does a great job at New Season Concord, N. H. I constantly hear people talking bad about the clinic, and just putting it down. My thoughts would be that more then likely they probably would never open such a place of there wasn't proof of it working. Or should I say, if the success rate wasn't there. But anyways, in all reality, it honestly is what you make of it. You basically figure out how you want your goal of sobriety to go, with the help needed from the Doctor, Nurses, and the rest of the staff. And at the end of the day, you just continue to reach for the stars and never give up! Thank You again,

Are you searching for a place where you can get your life back on track following addiction? Adult & Teen Challenge New Hampshire, located in Manchester, is a place where miracles can happen in your life, where their residence program can replace an empty soul without hope or purpose with direction and the love of the Lord!
We saw, first-hand, the work of Adult & Teen Challenge! A dear loved one enrolled in their program, a broken young man who spent 10 years going in and out of prison for taking and dealing drugs.
Through Adult & Teen Challenge NH’s structured program of graduated phases, he was taught how to live without dependency on drugs, of the reality of Jesus Christ and of how the Lord can completely transform a life. This young man’s empty soul became filled with love and forgiveness. He became a new person - the manifestation of a miracle in his life.
A Bible verse that makes us think of Adult & Teen Challenge New Hampshire is this: “Therefore if anyone is a new creation, the old things are passed away; behold, all things become new.” II Corinthians 5:17
If you or someone you know, needs a fresh start…a new direction, then Adult & Teen Challenge New Hampshire is the place to begin your miraculous transformation. Even if you aren’t interested in things of God – this is the place you or your loved one needs to be!!!
