Staff was very helpful and patient. I’ve been to multiple programs similar to this one and have never seen such a clean building let alone dealt with people that work there that actually act like they care would definitely recommend over any other place in Connecticut from my personal experience.

Whether you are a 1st time treatment/detox seeker or have relapsed and are searching for a new facility, this is your place. The staff are amazing and go above and beyond for the patients. This was my one and hopefully only experience, but I am incredibly grateful that I chose Retreat (New Haven). My therapist was PHENOMENAL! If you are willing to do the work, commit to yourself that YOU are worth the time & energy needed that it takes to truly recover, and remain sober then I highly recommend you give Retreat a try. It is a welcoming community and hopefully you will be as pleasantly surprised as I was about the services available, especially if you are a first responder or an active duty/veteran service member.

The place has changed drastically (for the better) since APT took it over. Parole and Probation would not allow people to come here otherwise. Lots of Food, amenities, an outside smoking area, gym, cell phones allowed, Good staff etc etc. There's now full fencing with locked gates around the facility. It's amazing what there funding has done to the place now that new management is NOT stealing it. Which was the case yrs ago when it was called "Crossroads". If your new to the logistics of getting in here then ask ask ask questions. They don't freely tell you much of anything without asking. Possibly due to the high number of return clients. That's the only reason for 4 not 5 stars IMO.

Maggie is the main coordinator at the Counseling Center. He is the greatest human being on the face of this Earth! She will jump through hoops for anybody any given point in time. As far as the other stuff and the therapist and the receptionist and all the behind-the-scenes people who you never get to see you do all the work are also amazing and so friendly it's comforting I highly recommend this place to anybody that seeking help!!!

I’ve been seeing Michele, my Psych APRN, for six years. I was honestly shocked to see low ratings online, as I believe they stem from past staffing issues and not a reflection of Michele herself.
When I first started with Michele, I was a newly single mom, early in sobriety, and had just returned to my home state. I'd never been able to maintain sobriety or stick with a consistent, competent provider before. Michele changed that. As a mental health professional myself, I appreciate her understanding of the challenges I face. She respects that I know what works for me and never talks down or assumes a power dynamic. That mutual respect is rare and refreshing.
She has consistently been there when I needed her—offering short-notice appointments, guiding me through medication changes, and sharing insight based on patient experiences. She provides helpful context on what to expect from medications and offers samples when insurance delays occur. Michele stays on top of refills—something that’s been a major issue with other providers I’ve had in the past. She knows how critical it is to not miss doses and ensures her patients don’t have to go without.
Beyond medications, she offers thoughtful, holistic guidance—encouraging good sleep, nutrition, therapy, and attention to one's environment, all of which impact mental health. She sees the whole person, not just the diagnosis, and her approach reflects deep empathy and understanding.
Michele recently moved into a new, calm, and bright office space, which she now shares with a small, stable team. The environment is private, peaceful, and easily accessible—but what matters most to me is that Michele herself is accessible. I don’t have to go through multiple layers of staff just to get help. That direct connection is invaluable.
Over the years, she’s supported me through one of the hardest times of my life—emotionally, physically, and mentally. She never dismisses my concerns and always offers encouragement, especially on tough days when I’m doubting myself as a mom or struggling with chronic health issues. She reminds me that I’m doing my best and that things will get better.
I’m especially grateful for her flexibility—offering telehealth when getting to the office is tough and allowing me to bring my child when needed. As a solo mom, that level of understanding makes a world of difference. Her support has helped me stay sober and emotionally stable—something I never thought was possible before working with her.
Michele is the first provider I’ve had who is consistent, present, and reliable year after year. I genuinely hope she continues practicing for a long time because having someone like her in your corner—especially when managing recovery, chronic illness, and mental health—is rare and incredibly valuable.

Westport House is well managed and well run. It has all the amenities you could ask for, with resources to get every aspect of your life back on track. The management and staff cares about you, and that's important when trying to better yourself. They really give you an upper hand. After years of trying everything we could think of, my wife and I finally found Westport House. Our son was admitted quickly and efficiently, and, from that point on, our experience was incredible. After a couple of months we saw a noticeable change in our son. The staff was very timely in their correspondence with us and always treated us appropriately. During his time there, our son became actively involved in Alcoholics Anonymous, obtained employment, and began treating us and others with a level of respect we did not know he was capable of. He stayed there for 7 months, and I can say, it was very much worth every penny. Our son is still sober today and continues to attend the AA meetings that he went to during his time at Westport House. We cannot thank Westport House enough for giving us our son back. After 7 painful years, the change that he was able to make in his life is incredible, and it is all thanks to the great staff and services at Westport House.

After being in and out of many different rehabs, it was at Westport House that I learned how to live a brand new life. The staff was kind, loving, and compassionate. They showed me the way up and out of the horrible rut I was in. They also helped my family understand addiction, and what they needed to do to help me, and themselves. The atmosphere is relaxed, comfortable, and the incredibly supportive! Being able to see their therapists and clinical team was also essential in aiding my recovery. I'm so grateful for the life Westport House gave me.

CHR's a great agency. They've helped me out for plenty of years. Great people there and encourage you to do the best. And you continue to do the best. They help you and encourage you to strive and go independent with your recovery. Great people there. And great people who go there. I can't complain about the quality of services. Because where I come from originally there weren't any of these services. I'm grateful to have CHR in my life. Always wanting it to learn new things. And advocate for these services to continue. And do activism with it as well. Do whatever it takes to keep our life and quality of life going. Great job CHR. Keep up the great work you have done. And continue to do. This van from Wheeler Clinic is great. They are equipped with even a heart monitor. We need more of these. I made an appointment at a doctors office that the earliest is 6 months away. There have been urgent care facilities opening up everywhere in the state. It's like the medical field is getting ready for a major health problem. The nurses can read a major amount of my health records and even re-ordered my vitamins that I didn't even know I had a script for. Just saying thanks.
June 2025. Wheeler has a care management program to help clients with extra care needs. Helping book appointments, housing, food, shelter, help finding outside doctors like specialists that your primary can give you referrals to, coordinate rides and more. I cannot say enough positive things about Wheeler Clinic. I was seen the same day for intake and the next day by a therapist who I absolutely love. I’m seeing a PCP within 1 week of intake. The staff is friendly, supportive and efficient, never have to wait for appointments, they always answer the phone. This place is truly a god sent to me and I will forever be grateful.

They saved my life and gave me a life I never thought would be possible. If you're questioning getting on the program then please give it a chance it's worth it. I went from homeless and jobless to having a beautiful home a beautiful career and a beautiful family and most importantly of all I'm actually happy. The only time I encountered issues with this program was when there was issues with myself that I had to work on. Once I figured that stuff out, the program became very useful resource for me, in fact the most important resource in my recovery has been ROOT and CCAR combined. So grateful this program exists!

I joined this program almost 5 months ago (6/15/23), and so far I am very pleased with the services that they provide. I have been on 2 other programs (New Era in Bridgeport and CT Counciling Center in Danbury) prior to my joining the Root Center, and in my experience, the Root Center is a far better program. The nurses, the councilors, and the rest of the staff are extremely professional while maintaining a warm and friendly atmosphere for their patients. Unfortunately, I did have a couple of false positive urinalysises. However, when they saw how upset I was over the error, they believed me, and approved my take home bottles anyway. That would have NEVER HAPPENED at the other programs I have been on. If you are struggling with addiction and are considering joining the Root Center, do it. Today could be the day that you begin to turn it all around. Make the call. God bless!!
It has been a couple of months since my last review. In that time I had my bottles recalled for another false positive. There's been a lot of talk at the program about this issue. Apparently this isn't a "me" problem. It's a "we" problem. Because a high (no pun intended) number of clients are complaining about false positives, and to me, that's a problem. I can't speak for everyone else, but in my case, I know that I haven't used since 6/23. It's now 1/24. I shouldn't have any drugs left in my system. The Root Center really needs to address and fix this issue. Not only is it unfair to be treated punitively when you are innocent of wrongdoing, it is also dangerous to the addict. It's the sort of thing that can topple someone's recovery.
