Yesterday, the MidCoast waiting room looked like the MaineMed ER on a bad day… so if you know, you know. However, this doctor made EVERY patient feel seen and know they were important and that their emergency needs would absolutely be met. I feel like this dude was kinda a superhuman doctor because he DID see and treat everyone in what I would call, “record time” with the amount of people who needed care! I know some people were frustrated about the wait, but if you have to go to the ER, chances are you might have to wait a bit to get seen. Additionally, the evening Charge nurse and the evening CNA who were so incredibly kind to me, I want to THANK YOU with my whole heart! 🥹💗 Right before I left last night, I admit I got a little scared because a few symptoms came back right before discharge and it made me hesitant about if it was truly safe to go back home or not… Ultimately, the CNA who told me, “you got this! You’re stronger than you think you are. Remember that.” And the Charge nurse who was just a few feet away keeping and eye on me to make sure I felt safe and then being my cheerleader when it came to the, “walking” test again, THANK YOU! 🙌 It was discussed that I may have to return today if my symptoms come back or worsen (I’m praying that’s not the case and I don’t think it will be) If you know me and how complicated my health is, you know I do not normally post about my “positive” experiences on here, but I think this is important. I used to feel…unsafe, dismissed, unseen and not taken seriously at this hospital in the past. However, now I can say with confidence that I DO feel safe if I ever do need to return and the level of care, compassion, empathy and the continuity of patient care has gone up exponentially. Thank you, MidCoast. Denver (tech), Kris (nurse), Dr. Shapiro, and Ryan (nurse) were all kind, attentive, and supportive. The entire team went above and beyond to make a difficult time a little easier. Amanda H. 3 months ago Had to go to Midcoast Hospital Emergency last night. Everyone was very professional, courteous and pleasant. They were busy, but got me quickly into a room. I never felt unattended to at all. After initial treatment, labs and imaging Dr Carrellas determined I had pneumonia. He seemed to know his stuff quite well. I had the opportunity to take advantage of their PHP(partial hospitalized patient) program and their IOP(intensive out patient) program. The PHP program runs 6 days a week 6 hours a day including a long lunch. You get to spend the day with BHTs and clinical group facilitators who educate you on the disease model, model of addiction and the 12 steps of AA. Along with fun activitys, meditation and ice breakers. The IOP program is great when you have some sobriety time under belt and enables you to focus on your recovery while also tending to family life and work. It runs 4 days a week, two and half hours a day with an option of morning or night depending on your schedule. The structure of the program includes meeting with a councler and psychiatric nurse practicioner. Leslie Briggs will bring you through the admissions process which is simple and convienent. I had a positive experience with clinical including Matt, Amanda, Bella and Kevin. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Julie was very helpful and caring. BHT Noah doesn't disappoint when it comes to exciting activitys, being a good listener and making you laugh. You'll get a chance to meet Program Coordinator Mike. B who is very recovery smart and is the man to talk to when you need realistic, direct and positively impactful input. In addition to all the things they can and will do for you, they will direct you toward sober living for men and women, meetings, sponsorship, Family Restored Meetings for your non-alcoholic friends and family and more. You may be going through withdrawals by the time you dose, around 1pm. YOU WILL NOT GET HELP THE DAY YOU CALL!!!!! Don't think you will. If you need help NOW, go to the hospital or try Kratom. My only gripe is they don’t offer a long term option for people who are stuck on suboxone for pain management. And that the turn over rate for counselors is super high.
