The staff were very helpful, professional, and willing to meet clients where they’re at based on their own individual treatment needs. They were the only agency that I found in my area that believe in a dual diagnosis treatment model, which allows you to continue taking your mental health medications, while also getting help for SUD.

You know, I've been seeing Jim for about fifteen years now. I've often said that finding a good therapist is a bit like finding a romantic partner: It's topsy, it's turvy and one like or another you're probably going to get screwed. But Jim has kept me grounded in that time and most importantly away from killing myself (always a risk). I'm sure I do not always agree with him on material or political matters, but that's part of what makes the relationship special.
Jim has kept me from some dark places. You won't always like what he has to say, but you'll always need to hear it. I credit him with keeping me alive and what else can you say of a man?

I just want to say how incredibly grateful I am for the care I received at the veteran clinic yesterday. 05/27/25 I had accidentally left my effexor in another city and hadn’t taken it in three days (please don’t EVER do this!), I was a complete wreck, both physically and emotionally. I rushed to the clinic in a bad state, and even though they were clearly understaffed, everyone treated me with such compassion and urgency.
I especially want to thank the pharmacy tech working at the desk by the windows. I was crying, struggling, and deep in withdrawal symptoms, but she never once made me feel judged or invalidated. she was kind, patient, and truly went above and beyond to help me get what I needed. her empathy meant everything to me in that moment.
I also want to shout out the woman who helped with registration. she was calm, efficient, and kind, which really helped ease some of my anxiety.

Feedback Regarding Our Recent Visit to University of Michigan Health Pediatric Clinic | Women Children & Young Adults located at Brairwood – A Deeply Disappointing Experience
I am writing this review to share a deeply frustrating and upsetting experience we had during a recent visit to this clinic, where my 15-month-old daughter was diagnosed with COVID-19.
Inaccurate Temperature Reading — Ignored in Real Time:
The medical technician barely inserted the thermometer in my daughter’s ear and reported a temperature of 99°F. However, we brought our own reliable thermometer and checked her temperature ourselves right there in front of the technician—it was 102.5°F. Despite seeing this clear discrepancy, the staff did nothing to recheck or acknowledge it. That kind of inaccuracy in a pediatric setting is not just careless, it’s dangerous. The technician also kept the incorrect fever recorded on the chart, which adds to the concern about the accuracy and professionalism of the visit.
Disrespectful and Dismissive Behavior from the Doctor:
When I expressed concern about my daughter’s symptoms, the doctor completely dismissed my worries. Her response was, "If you don’t want your child to get sick, keep her in a bubble." I found this statement not only unprofessional but cruel and mocking during a very stressful time for us as a family.
Failure to Take Symptoms Seriously:
I shared multiple concerning symptoms: her fever not dropping below 102°F all night, changes in walking, and sudden moments of unresponsiveness. The doctor brushed all of these off as “normal” and implied I was overreacting. This level of dismissal is unacceptable.
Lack of Compassion During the Visit:
My daughter was crying throughout the entire visit, visibly uncomfortable and unwell. Instead of showing empathy, the doctor said, “She seems good since she’s fighting.” That is not a reassuring or medically sound evaluation—it’s a justification to ignore her suffering. If she was truly "fine," I wouldn’t have brought her in.
Confusing and Inappropriate Dosage Instructions:
The Motrin dosage the doctor recommended was not only confusing but possibly unsafe. She told us to give her Children’s Motrin, which, according to both the CDC and the manufacturer, is only recommended for children 2–3 years old and 24–35 lbs. My daughter is 15 months and 23.3 lbs with clothes and diaper. This recommendation shows either carelessness or a lack of up-to-date medical knowledge.
Inaccurate Examination and Missed Diagnosis:
After the incorrect temperature reading, I couldn’t trust the rest of the physical exam. The doctor said her throat “looked fine,” but when we went to urgent care immediately afterward, they confirmed she had a sore throat—common with COVID, yes, but something the doctor failed to even notice. She rushed through the visit, clearly eager to finish her shift since it was a Saturday. The doctor didn’t even write a visit note. She rushed to the car and left the building two hours after the visit, and I still don’t see a doctor’s note on my child’s portal summarizing her recommendations. That’s a little strange, because usually doctors write notes immediately for patients to review. Is she trying to hide something, or did she realize she wasn’t helpful?
This doctor showed zero empathy—not once did she acknowledge my concerns or the fact that I, too, am COVID positive, with a fever, while caring for a very sick baby. It felt like we were a burden rather than patients needing help.
If you're a parent who cares about your child’s well-being, I urge you not to go to this clinic—especially not to see Dr. Kelly Abraham Orringer. You’ll leave feeling worse, with no answers, and still looking for real care. She may get paid for the visit, but your peace of mind and your child’s health are too important to trust to someone so dismissive and uncaring.

I took my 18-month-old son to the clinic to have his ears checked for a possible ear infection. He had just been woken from a nap and was understandably upset. The first doctor wasn’t able to get a clear look because he was crying, so she said she would have a colleague take a look instead.
Dr. Helms then entered the room and, to my surprise, barely acknowledged us. She seemed uncomfortable with the fact that my son was crying—as if a crying toddler were out of the ordinary for a pediatric setting. She made no effort to comfort him or engage with him, which made the situation even more tense.
After briefly looking in his ear, she sat down and unexpectedly started asking questions about his developmental progress at home. I found this inappropriate, as she’s not his primary doctor and that wasn’t the reason for our visit. It felt intrusive and irrelevant.
I've been with this clinic for three years and have never had an experience like this. It was disappointing and unsettling. My child had already gone through a stressful situation—being examined twice right after waking up—and the lack of empathy or effort to make him comfortable was really disheartening. I honestly don’t understand where Dr. Helms gets her five-star reviews.

After going through one of the scariest experiences of my entire life, and waiting in what felt like a limbo-esque ER, I cannot even begin to explain how grateful I am for Coping Center. The staff immediately were warm and welcoming, ready to help me work through what I was struggling with, even at my arrival time of 10:30pm. As someone who was nervous looking at other reviews and the lack of information about the schedule on the website, hopefully I can clear up some concerns.
1. There is a daily schedule, lasting from roughly 7/9am to 8pm. It is often subject to change, and you are encouraged to attend group sessions, but not required. (The first day I slept mostly, but I'm glad I started to attend them on my 2nd day because it helped more than I thought it would)
2. You can call anyone from 6am to 10pm, and can even set it up so that certain people can call YOU. There is also visitation from 4 to 5 EVERY DAY, but it can only be one person who is 18 or older.
3. Yes, your phone will be taken away. They will let you write down numbers before they do. Honestly, aside from the logistical concerns of patients having phones, it was kind of nice to totally detach from the stressors of the online world and social media for a few days.
4. The accommodations are great, especially for a hospital, but be prepared to sleep a bit uncomfortable. Bring some clothes going in, or try and get people to drop them off shortly after arrival. You'll have to wear scrubs at first, but 24 hours in you can change into streetwear. Make sure none of it has strings, or they will need to cut it off.
5. The food is better than what I was expecting, but don't be looking for a gourmet experience. Order as much food as you can every meal, as you never know when you might be craving a snack.
6. All of the staff were absolutely incredible, but huge shoutouts to Sam, Chey, Alyssia (?), and Dr. Mercado for being extremely personable and ready to help anyone through whatever they were working through.
7. Go in hoping not for a cure or immediate treatment, but ready to look inward and take the time to learn what you need. I know that for people struggling with mental illness, such as myself, it can sometimes be hard to see that you need help, or be willing to accept it. I could have shut everything out and hunkered down, but then I wouldn't have had change and gotten the chance to see my cat again so soon!
8. Read, read, read! Yes, I am a former book lover who has gotten back into it, but reading truly saved me during my time here. Yes the groups were great, the people were kind, and the TV was enticing, but while you read, you make notes of what is happening in the literature and often get to think about your OWN story.
Though I am glad to be home, I will in the weirdest way miss the comforting and routine structure of the Coping Center. I hope to be able to give back some day!

*PLEASE READ!!* I struggled with addiction and mental health for the last 10 years. In and out of rehab, hospitals, a never ending struggle. The coping center is THE FIRST place that actually made a difference. The doctor, the therapists, the nurses, everyone- were BEYOND supportive and knowledgeable of their jobs.
Frankly, I’m shocked at some of the low reviews on here…if anything- I’d say it CLEARLY comes from disgruntled patients who weren’t ready to change or take genuine responsibility for themselves. Let’s not forget, the patients here have to be willing to change, if they aren’t willing, then no place will help them. Excuses won’t allow you to heal properly. How do I know this? Because I did it for the last decade of my life. Complaining about them “not releasing you”- is their way to love and protect you if you can’t do it yourself yet. Personally, I think is tragic people want to discredit this place- because I know it can help so many people like me.
This is an individual journey, and a REAL CHANCE to learn how to love & put yourself first. This place gives you that opportunity!!! I’d give more than 5 stars if I could. If you need help, or someone you love needs help- save yourself time and send them here! It was a blessing, and I can’t brag enough! Thank you to everyone at the coping center for changing my life, and finally giving me the chance to live life the way I deserve to, and the chance to love my family the way they deserve to be loved!!!

The office staff are wonderful and very accommodating. Dr. Christensen is one of the best addiction specialists I've ever seen. I know this because I first started seeing Dr. Christensen when he was with Wayne State University, around 2011-2013. Never once while I was under his care did I ever feel like he didn't have my best interest in mind. I was never made to feel like I was less than a whole person. Because I truly feel that patients are treated like human beings at TrinityHealth IHA, which I'm sad to say isn't common in our healthcare system these days.

The office staff here is absolutely fantastic, and the doctor I see, is absolutely amazing. He is willing to work with me, doesn’t look down upon the help that I need to become whole again and has been nothing but encouraging to my recovery. Thank you!

I've been a patient at St. Joe's both in ER and for surgeries multiple times. I have always received excellent care from 99% of the staff. The reason I didn't give 5 stars is due to the anesthesiologists not taking me seriously when I tell them I don't process certain pain medications and anesthetics the way most people do. I'm a retired RN who has been board certified in pain management. I've also worked in preop and recovery. I've studied how pain medications are processed in the liver and which enzymes are involved. Whenever I tell both the Anesthesiologist and the Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) that I will need either a block to the surgical sire at the end of the surgery, or that I will need a little more pain med before going to the Recovery room, they say they will "take good care of me", but I usually wake up in severe pain. Then it takes at least 30 minutes for them to do something about it. Meanwhile, the nurses in Recovery are doing their best to play catch up with the small amounts of pain meds they are allowed to give while we all wait for Anesthesia to come assess me and do what they should have done in the first place. This "one size fits all" attitude is unfortunate in light of all that is currently known about how the body processes medications and how genetics influences one's reaction to pain medications. They need to *listen* to the patient.

I had a mammogram here a few months ago. The staff is amazing! The techs were sensitive to the fact that it was my first one.
