I have been going to Harbor behavioral health for psychiatric care and I even started out going there for therapy. It has been the most life-changing and wonderful/painful/tear filled/confusing, but ultimately hopeful experience I have ever had. They are changing my life. Sarah Bailey was my psychiatrist right after my psychosis and she was with me for the past two years. She helped me learn to walk and was there for me every time I had a crisis. She and Nikki were my cheerleaders through the toughest time in my life. Alexya Romo was the counselor that I found there and she is still my counselor to this day. If it wasn’t for these people, I don’t think I’d be where I am today. And yeah, I can’t speak for everyone but the team I got were all-stars. Fast forward to today: a woman named Mallory took Nikki’s place and she is very responsive, kind, and caring. I don’t know her well but I know she cares about her job. My new psychiatrist is Angela and we are still learning about each other and I think she is doing a good job listening to me and connecting with me. I think she has healthy and strong boundaries as a practitioner. Which makes me think she is trustworthy and that is a great place to start. Thanks guys.

There is one person that I personally am rating 5 stars because ever since I got there she has been very nice, has more manners than royalty, and a lot of others feel the same. She donated food clothes and helped me out when I was in need. Don't take kindness for weakness though if you pull up with bad energy? That energy will be reciprocated in a more than professional manner!!! Shout out to the best secretary there!!! Jodi!!!!! Thank you for everything! The people appreciate you!!! Heart of Gold.

My child and I met with Logan for nearly a year regarding her anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder. He was the perfect match for us…easy to talk to, responsive, helpful. We were finally able to successfully navigate cognitive behavioral therapy because Logan allowed my daughter to manage her exposures in her own time…it was exactly what she needed. I am also extremely grateful that Logan was open to us digging into her physiological health in order to uncover imbalances that were heightening her anxiety response. She is doing so well that our sessions have come to a close, but I can honestly say we will miss spending time with Logan each week. Thank you!

I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude for the incredible support I received from Unison. After experiencing an accident, I had to join a program while also managing communication with the court — a very stressful time in my life. Thankfully, my consultant Chyna was with me every step of the way. She went above and beyond, offering guidance, encouragement, and all the resources I needed. I also want to recognize Mrs. Gaston, whose warmth and kindness lifted me during one of my lowest moments. Her support made a huge difference, and I’ll never forget the role she played in helping me through. I’m currently working with Bruce, and he’s been great — professional, understanding, and consistent. Thank you to everyone at Unison. Your dedication and compassion truly changed my life. I appreciate each and every one of you.

From the staff at every level, the physician, the nurses, the technical staff, the recreational therapists, the chefs, the office personel, the cleaning and house keeping staff, I won't mention names on the internet but you know exactly who you are. This place is complete. You're treated with what I consider the three C's of any people centered service facility. Care, Compassion, and Concern. It's all genuine. If you are at a low point and need a pick-me-up, if you are seeking to have an entire crew treat and meet you exactly where you are, if you need a stress free environment or 1 on 1 attention with spirited individuals who truly have an unbelievable passion and patience and grace for what they do, look no further. This isn't where dreams are necessarily made, but they are most certainly realized. You have to take care of you and be right with yourself before you can take care of anybody else. I wish I could be a part of this team but they are a select cohesive group with a gifted calling. Don't be ashamed. Don't be afraid. Mental health and substance abuse are real things. Take the time and invest in yourself and you'll get it back ten fold with this crew. Fall down seven times, stand up eight 💪🏼 🙌 👏 ❤️

I cannot express how much this place has done for me in the past few months. Aster Springs Ohio, doesn't just heal you externally, but also deep down internally. The facility itself is so welcoming. There are comfy chairs, sofas, and beds that make you feel right at home. And when you feel homesick, your treatment team and the staff will try anything to make you feel better. There are connection calls you can make at night, and every week there's some kind of outing, such as the library or the movies. When I first came, my expectations were extremely low, but for my first residential program, I was pleasantly surprised. Unlike some other programs, Aster Springs focuses on community and branching out to others for guidance, instead of the primary focus of restoration. I will say this: the food here is very tasty. I recommend the hot pastrami sandwich as well as one of the DCS's homemade pizzas. I love how in Aster Springs, everyone has a say in what they want, and you will never be unacknowledged. All of the DCS staff and RCS staff are very pleasant to talk to, especially when you are feeling low one day and your treatment team isn't available. Another thing I love about Aster Springs is the diversity of treatment from adolescents to adults. As an adolescent client, I felt like the treatment was guided towards teens, and the adult treatment was guided towards adults. I admit, hyping yourself up to go to residential isn't the easiest thing, but Aster Springs is so worth it. Recovery is so worth it. I am grateful for how they make you focus on recovery, and not numbers, by covering up labels and things like that. Whoever needs a supportive, caring, inclusive, specialized, and talented community to support their recovery, Aster Springs Ohio, is the way to go. Shoutout to Dietitian Trish and Therapist Kam for being the best treatment team ever, and helping me when things got rough. And thanks to all the DCS staff, especially you, Elena, for making such preferred food and making me smile. Thanks to Kelsey for hosting the most amazing groups, and thanks to Abbey and all the nursing staff for making sure that we're all comfortable during this process. Lastly, thank you to the entire Aster Springs staff for healing the part of me I didn't know was possible, and I would definitely recommend this facility! (past patient #thatpower)

I just discharged from the php and residential program! I generally had a very positive experience at astersprings Ohio and I have seen how much the program has improved since I was there in 2021. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about eating disorders and other topics. The groups were educational and I got a lot out of them most of the time! No program is perfect and I do have a few grievances about the program. I had some trouble with the kitchen staff and found them rather rude and impatient on multiple occasions. I brought this up with multiple people and it seemed like nothing got done. I also felt that my discharge was very rushed and I didn’t have much time to plan for aftercare. If you are struggling I would definitely recommend aster springs, I can’t imagine a better program!

This center has questionable front staff who laugh at others' misery, but their psychiatrists and nurse practitioners are getting better at listening to patients... 🤷‍♂️

PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR RECOVERY I can’t say enough good things about Todd Crandell and Racing for Recovery. Racing was the first real treatment center I attended. I had been to The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center before, but that is very different from treatment centers and not part of this review. I first came to Racing in 2023 and I am back in 2026 after learning hard lessons in other treatment centers. After leaving Racing the first time, I worked at two treatment centers and was also a client at another. Most of them say they are different, but in reality, they are very similar. In many treatment centers, groups are loosely run. People are often on their phones, talking during group, vaping, or leaving multiple times during a session. Staff are generally not well prepared and do not consistently enforce structure. Racing for Recovery is not like that. It is structured, consistent, and focused on accountability. Clients are expected to participate fully and take recovery seriously. That level of structure makes a real difference in outcomes. One of the biggest benefits of Racing is the consistency. Expectations do not constantly shift, and the environment does not allow for a lot of distractions or “checking out” mentally. It creates a setting where people can actually focus on recovery instead of just going through the motions. The staff are involved and truly care about client well-being. I cannot say the same for many other places. I am not saying there are not good people working in other treatment centers, but this has been my experience. Another benefit is the culture. At Racing, there is a strong sense of accountability and peer support. Clients are around others who are also serious about change, which helps create a more focused environment. In many other programs, there is a wider mix of motivation levels, which can make it harder for people who are trying to stay serious about recovery. A common issue I have seen across many programs is how discharge planning and employment timelines are handled. Clients are typically given about 90 days to find work and housing, which is understandable. The issue is that clients are usually in PHP level of care at first and only begin job searching once they move to IOP. I have also seen this first-hand while working in treatment centers. In level-of-care meetings, the case manager, group facilitators, and therapist may all agree that a client is ready to step up to IOP so they can begin working and preparing for discharge. However, I have also seen situations where higher-level staff review insurance and determine the client can be approved for two more weeks of PHP. In those cases, the decision is often tabled despite the clinical team’s recommendation. I have seen this happen many times. This delay can leave clients without enough time to secure work or housing, which increases the risk of relapse or having to restart treatment. I have seen both outcomes. I hope this helps someone who is serious about recovery. Racing is a structured and disciplined program, but it offers real opportunity, accountability, consistency, and support that I have not found elsewhere.

This is a mixed review, so read till the end. The staff? Amazing. Very kind, caring and extremely dedicated while maintaining professionalism. Housing? Also phenomenal. Very clean and spacious. It’s like your own hotel with 1 roommate. Here’s where my sole issue lies- The curriculum. The groups are daunting. 3 LONG required groups a day and they are unbearably repetitive. Clients talking about their personal lives / beliefs for hours. If you don’t like public speaking, you will not benefit much. I would have liked to learn about addiction itself, the way it affects the brain, the science behind it, honestly anything would have more interesting and beneficial to me than the open daily discussions on other peoples personal trauma. I learn better from a teacher vs. a peer whose story I may not relate to. However, I realize some people are the opposite and the counselors are just trying to help everyone. They will bend over backwards for you. It also seems as if they deter people from working / moving forward with life as most seem to stay 1-2 years with no real movement or plan towards venturing out of the protective bubble. I did not know this going into it, but working a job is not allowed until after 90 days, which they make very difficult because there is a mandatory group in the middle of the day. My final take is this facility is a good one, but it is built for people who don’t have responsibilities, bills or families to take care of. People who want INTENSIVE long term support. 90 days minimum- and if that’s for you, then I highly recommend it.

This place has become a huge part of my life! From day one I knew and felt the difference. The approach and kindness I received from the staff and peers over the years has made Racing for Recovery feel more like a family, rather than a rehabilitation center. I can honestly say that Racing for Recovery has changed my life. Since stepping foot into the center, I have been able to make this my recovery, not a forced recovery with time restrictions. It just feels different here, it's hard to describe unless you've actually accepted the process and decide to work on yourself with the guidance of wonderful human beings. I have have the upmost love and respect for anyone I was able to share my experiences with here. Genuine kind understanding people is what I want to surround myself with, and I found that here.
