I grew up in Compton, California, searching for acceptance and belonging. I found it in the gang lifestyle, living as a gangbanger and hustler. I had no remorse, no hope, and nearly lost my life when I was shot in the head during a gang fight. Instead of prison, I was sent to Teen Challenge. Two weeks into the program, I surrendered my life to Christ. While there, I discovered a passion for creating art with my hands. Today, I walk in complete restoration something I could never have achieved on my own. God has not only restored my life but has given me more than I could have ever imagined.

Inpatient

The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

I was so lost and broken but I met a man named Bill Everitt and just when I was going to leave he saw me and took me into his office. He said “John you can do this. I know it’s hard and some rules seem stupid it’s to humble you. Your plan got you here and Gods plan is to meet you here.” Needless to say I stuck it out and now I’m fully recovered and healed of addiction. I have a family, business and a personal relationship with Jesus. This place is for people who truly want to follow The Way.

I went to Sonrise on my own free will. After really getting to see how they operate I checked myself back out. I don't need a bunch of guys half my age running around making up stupid rules as they go. (they refuse to print off their rules and they also refuse to print off a schedule) When I told them I was leaving they informed me that the remaining money that had been taken from me upon arrival at the facility was now their property. They then hauled me into Lawton and dropped me off at the police station where the secretary pretty much told me to kick rocks. I couldn't even catch a bus ride since the crooks at Sunrise had taken my cash. I honestly say I would absolutely NOT recommend Sonrise unless they make a bunch of changes. One more thing I've never seen so much waste in my life. Sonrise threw away three huge trailer loads of books and many trailer loads of steel (which could have been sold for thousands of dollars) while I was at the facility.
