I don't typically write reviews on things, but after my experience here, I felt obligated to do so. My fiancée had her gallbladder removed here on March 20th, 2026 with Dr. Sharma. From the time we arrived until after the surgery, the experience here was very positive. The preop staff was very professional and friendly. Dr. Sharma was outstanding, and I would highly recommend her to others. The surgery was completed ahead of schedule with no complications. However, the positive experience here ceased as soon as the surgery was completed. The post-op staff was incompetent, rude, unprofessional, and frankly appalling. It was immediately clear that this staff was trying to rush us out the door as quickly as possible and did not care one bit about actually doing their jobs well or making sure my fiancée was actually recovering properly. Our nurse was nice, but spilled half a bottle of FENTANYL on the floor. My fiancée's breathing rate would regularly get dangerously low - so much so that the alarm would go off - and the nurses seemed completely oblivious to this. She was in a lot of pain after the operation, and between that and the anesthesia wearing off, it took her some time to recover and for it to be safe to leave. She was very dizzy and had not eaten all day. Her mom and I started to slowly get her up and moving as instructed. This was not quick enough for these nurses, as they kept coming and and hassling us to get her up and basically telling us to GTFO. At one point I asked for a snack for her, as again, she had not eaten all day, and was dizzy and weak. The nurse I asked told me "how about you take her home and get her some real food". After they had successfully rushed us out the door, because god forbid you work later than 4 PM on a Friday, I received a text from the text update system I was signed up for telling me to return to the waiting room right as I was about to pull out of the parking deck. I'm not sure if my signal was poor and I received it late, or if the system sent it incorrectly, and frankly, I don't care. I figured they needed me to sign some paperwork or something, so it wasn't a big deal to run back up real quick and double check. When I arrived in the waiting room, nobody was there, and could not reach anyone. Fortunately, what appeared to be an off duty nurse helped me get ahold of someone from post op after about 5-10 minutes. I told them who I was and that I had received a text to come to the waiting room, so I asked if we were okay or if we need to do something else before we left. The lady on the other end caught an attitude with me for no reason, implying that I was lying about when I received the text. All I wanted to know was if we were okay to leave. I pulled out of this place with a seriously bad taste in my mouth. Kennestone - Your post op/discharge staff need a serious attitude adjustment and some basic training on how to actually do their jobs. We truly are so sorry to have inconvenienced you with our post op recovery. You know, the thing you guys are paid to do? Be better.

Thank you for sharing your detailed experience with us. It’s clear how much you care about your fiancée's well-being, and the concerns you’ve expressed about her post-op care are deeply important. From the positive impression you had during pre-op and surgery to the challenges you encountered afterward, I can see how this would leave you feeling frustrated and disappointed. Your feedback regarding the professionalism and attentiveness of the post-op staff highlights areas that merit attention, and your perspective on the situation is valuable. If you’re open to connecting, please email us at WeCare@Wellstar.org with the patient’s full name, date of birth, and date of visit, this will help us locate the correct record. Once we receive your message, our team will forward it to the Kennestone Patient Experience team who will review your concerns and follow up with you directly.

The lady working at the outpatient pavilion directory table (with glasses and a short bowl cut) made my spouse feel very embarrassed while already being nervous for a doctor's appointment. I'm not sure what the point of her job is if she is just going to humiliate patients when they ask for directions. I recommend visitors to ask a friendlier staff member. Otherwise, it is a nice hospital.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

A quality drug rehab in Georgia can help you overcome addiction. This environment is designed to help you address the complex issues contributing to drug dependence. The goal of treatment is to give you the tools you need to make a full recovery.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.
