This experience can be scary and hard to navigate without knowing what to expect in an environment full of strangers discussing your private life. But I have to say I’ve been attending classes for about 5 months now. And since my initial evaluation with Milissa Flores, one of the lead counselors, she immediately made me feel comfortable and accepted. Walked me through every step of what to expect in classes and from the program as a whole. She makes each person feel welcome and especially as a female in some classes full of men, opens her door to make you feel safe to come to her with any concerns or issues. She leads her groups with an honest open approach, where you can talk about anything - judgment free, while learning the skills needed to move forward coping with triggers and stress without the means of alcohol as a solution. She really gives every person the opportunity to speak at their pace and not push them to feel forced. I can’t say the same for every counselor there, or other programs. I’m truly thankful for the ease she has made me and others feel, and her help in my continued path of sobriety. She really goes above and beyond always with a smile and positive energy!

After years of trying everything we could think of, my wife and I finally found Westport House. Our son was admitted quickly and efficiently, and, from that point on, our experience was incredible. After a couple of months we saw a noticeable change in our son. The staff was very timely in their correspondence with us and always treated us appropriately. During his time there, our son became actively involved in Alcoholics Anonymous, obtained employment, and began treating us and others with a level of respect we did not know he was capable of. He stayed there for 7 months, and I can say, it was very much worth every penny. Our son is still sober today and continues to attend the AA meetings that he went to during his time at Westport House. We cannot thank Westport House enough for giving us our son back. After 7 painful years, the change that he was able to make in his life is incredible, and it is all thanks to the great staff and services at Westport House.

After being in and out of many different rehabs, it was at Westport House that I learned how to live a brand new life. The staff was kind, loving, and compassionate. They showed me the way up and out of the horrible rut I was in. They also helped my family understand addiction, and what they needed to do to help me, and themselves. The atmosphere is relaxed, comfortable, and the incredibly supportive! Being able to see their therapists and clinical team was also essential in aiding my recovery. I'm so grateful for the life Westport House gave me.

I've seen 3 women counselors. I literally walked right out in the middle of each session.
One woman was constantly late. She would go to her office and spend even more time. Eventually, I was called in and ONLY had 10-15 minutes left to talk. All the while, she was putzing at her desk with her back towards me.
Another counselor, I was explaining how I feel with the physical aspects of having anxiety and panic attacks. To me it is physical. So, when I mentioned all this to her,
TRUE STORY!!!...AND I QUOTE...(with a tick of the tongue)she replies,
"Oh! I don't believe that!!"
I was in complete shock 🤯! I gave the counselor a piece of my mind and stormed out of the office.
I thought counselors are supposed to be sympathetic. 🤔 Hmmm?? Listens well and has GOOD advice to give that will certainly help with your everyday difficult situations, troubles, uncertainties etc. I received no 😣 helpful feedback. I don't seem to get along with any female counselors or women in general. I'm still a patient at NMHBH. Now I only go every 3 months just to check in & review my medications. This is only MY experience. Perhaps you'll find a counselor for yourself & hopefully be able to establish a relationship that is detrimental to your well-being.
Thank you for your time.

I am a two time alum of High Watch and I owe the place so much. The first time I went in July 2023 was the first time I ever tried to get sober - I was terrified to enter treatment, didn’t want the help, was angry and frankly wasn’t ready to get sober. High Watch nonetheless showed me so much love, support and encouragement during my 28 day stay, and in the months following my discharge. They met me where I was and didn’t give up trying to help me. This stay at High Watch was the first time in my life I felt like I belonged somewhere.
I came back 6 months later in February 2024 and this time stayed for 4.5 months - completed the regular 28 day program and also the 3 month extended guest program. I am still sober today. If it hadn’t been for my extremely positive experience during round 1, I would never have returned. The staff at High Watch genuinely care about every single guest there, the therapists and group sessions are great, and the campus is beautiful. There are quite a lot of rules / a rigid daily schedule, which was sometimes tough but for me I needed this kind of structure. What’s also cool is that so many (I think the majority) of staff members are in recovery themselves and many have gone through High Watch so they get what it’s like to be in treatment and how hard it is, especially at the beginning. High Watch also helps set you up with plans after your discharge and have great connections with sober livings and IOPs to help with your aftercare plans. For what it’s worth, the food is also amazing 😊

Im originally from the Ronkonkama area & traveled from another state & my home that was 1200 miles away for cancer treatment.
I am happy & willing to say,
This VA in Northport did a great job from EENT, Dietitians, Hospital stay, ER, Oncology & Radiation, psychology & ALL!
Even the PD is friendly & great.👮🏼♂️😁
I kinda wish there was a clergyman around. Maybe they will institute it or get better about serving the faith or faiths.✝️
Also work on Radiation & Oncology Patient Parking I hope with a new parking lot as I completed my treatments.
The exercise did me good but horrible cold weather nearly gave me pneumonia. I'm not a valet type of guy. Well maybe once in Vegas of my 50 some odd years.
I am very appreciative of the VA in Northport.

I hope to get healthy enough as I am recovering from my cancer still, I AM CANCER FREE!

(Please note that this review was written before the Trump/DOGE cuts were made to VA services.)
I've never dealt with a VA hospital before, and so didn't know what to expect when my father started using their services. I have to say that we have been extremely pleased with what we've experienced.
In addition to the very satisfactory medical care he received, another thing that was impressive was the respect with which they treat the veterans. I saw this not only with my father, but with others who I saw in the halls during our visits to their ER and other offices. You could tell that the care they gave sprung from appreciation for their service.
Both the doctors and the nurses were always there for us when we needed them. They both made house calls and the nurses were there for us 24/7-- even for emergency house calls in the wee hours of the night/morning.
Everything we experienced in our years of interactions with the VA left me with a feeling that socialized medicine could indeed work if done properly. That's not meant to be a political statement, but just an observation of truly good service coming from a government-run agency.
My dad recently passed away, so I really want to thank the Northport VA for their service to him. It made a big difference to him and those of us caring for him. I don't know what we would have done without them.
