We went to CHI Williston on March 4 for a second opinion, as my son was not getting any better. His fever had returned, and he still had a dry cough.
Backstory: We first went to a clinic in Minot on February 28 to have him checked. They tested him for strep, COVID, flu, and possibly other infections , but all the results came back negative. So, we went back home to New Town. A few days later, his fever returned, so I decided to take him to his pediatrician, Dr. Mulu, at CHI.
Nurse Anabel helped us find an available schedule so we could get my son checked as soon as possible. Dr. Mulu made sure to gather all the necessary information about my son’s symptoms. As expected—and something I really appreciate—they started with the basics: checking his back and chest with a stethoscope, examining his ears and nose for any possible infections.
I also asked Dr. Mulu if he could request a chest X-ray to rule out pneumonia. I remembered a similar situation a few years ago where a doctor couldn’t hear anything unusual from his lungs, but the X-ray revealed pneumonia. I’ll never forget what Dr. Mulu told me: "We doctors also listen to parents” and something like they not just go by the book.
As it turned out, my son did have pneumonia. Dr. Mulu handled the situation with great care, making sure my son received the appropriate dosage of antibiotics to begin treatment rightaway. They explained everything to us through call and gave proper instructions. Nurse Anabel was also wonderful, helping us throughout the process—from scheduling to personally accompanying us to the laboratory. They are all friendly and treat you with most respect and care.
And lastly, I’d like to share my 5-year old son’s own words about what he went through/experience at both clinics
“ Okay Mom, We will go to tito(uncle) doctor in Williston because they are good there..
not in the hospital-the clinic in Minot. They are not good. They are not careful. When they checked my nose , they are not good.
But in williston.. they are careful, they are friends “
Even the kid can tell!
Thank you to CHI pediatric department. You are all good!

Minot, North Dakota | Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch is a Christ-centered residential treatment and educational center for children and their families. We help the most troubled, complicated and amazing kids by providing best-in-class psychiatric therapy and trauma-informed care, where we look kids in the eye, walk with them, and help them become their best selves. Dakota | Treatments Programs Payment Options | Thirteen years ago our son, in his mid-teens went to DBR and spent 8-9 months there. The ranch, at that time, used a clearly defined system of rewards and consequences. If they followed the rules, they earned points; if they broke the roles, they lost points. The boys were assigned chores such as kitchen duty, shoveling snow, house-keeping. They went to school. The classrooms had 8-10students in them by grade level, there the curriculum was no-nonsense, solid subjects. They played organized games of softball, frisbee, and other sports. There was ample time for active teens to burn off all the energy typical of the age-group.
At the time, 13 years ago, the people of Minot seemed untouched by the cynicism of the rest of the US. They were polite, affable, open, and friendly.
My son, now in his early 30s, talks about his time there fondly. He lives on his own, works, hangs out with his friends, and doesn’t get into trouble.
I hope DBR hasn’t changed.

At one time this nursing home had a reputation that made you question whether or not you should place a loved one here. I’m here to tell you that shouldn’t even be a question. My aunt came for therapy, a few months ago and was very reluctant to go. Now, she and my family couldn’t be happier. The staff is very caring, kind and respectful. There is laughter in the halls, there is a sense of pride in what they do, and they communicated very well with my aunt, and my family. I highly recommend Big Horn. It is clear they are going through some changes, but these changes have definitely served them and the other patients well.

I had the pleasure of working with the team at Big Horn Rehabilitation and Care Center in Sheridan about a month ago, and I was truly impressed by their warmth and dedication to the residents. The caregivers I met were not only friendly but deeply invested in providing quality care. You could feel the authenticity in the stories they shared, and it was clear that the residents are genuinely loved and well taken care of.
During my time there, I filmed an interview with both administrators and employees, and hearing their passion for what they do really stood out to me. It’s rare to find a care facility where you sense such a personal connection between staff and residents. Based on my experience, I would wholeheartedly recommend Big Horn Rehabilitation and Care Center to my friends and family. If you’re looking for a place where your loved ones will be treated with compassion and respect, this is a great choice.
