The staff, teachers, therapists, and administration showed up for me and my daughter with unwavering guidance, deep patience, and honest reflection. In the midst of one of our most difficult seasons, they held space for our healing. They reminded us that growth isn’t linear — that it’s okay to stumble — and they stood by us as we committed to the ups and downs, learning to trust the process, even when it felt impossible

Our 17-year-old daughter spent time at Chrysalis Therapeutic Boarding School, and we are deeply grateful for the progress we witnessed during her stay. From the beginning, it was clear that the staff truly cared about each student—not just their safety and well-being, but their emotional growth and long-term success.
Her therapist at Chrysalis was exceptional. She developed a level of trust and connection with our daughter that none of her previous therapists had been able to reach. The therapist’s insight, compassion, and clinical expertise made all the difference. She helped our daughter take true ownership of her decisions, both in terms of the tools she learned and the consequences of choosing whether or not to use them. This accountability has been empowering for her and has had a lasting impact.
The campus itself is safe, peaceful, and beautifully maintained. We always felt that the girls were well cared for, both physically and emotionally.
The Chrysalis program encourages parent involvement and connection. We built relationships with other parents and felt supported by staff every step of the way. It’s clear that Chrysalis doesn’t just focus on the student—they support the whole family system.
Sending our daughter to Chrysalis turned out to be one of the best we’ve ever made. We wholeheartedly recommend this program to families who are looking for deep, lasting healing and growth.

Turning Winds has been a life changing experience for our entire family! I was so worried about sending our daughter so far away, and for such a long time. It is a giant and frightening decision to send your child to a long term therapeutic boarding school. So, I am thrilled to be able to share with you that our daughter spent 8 months at Turning Winds, and it was the best decision that we ever made. It is a safe, supportive, comprehensive, family-oriented environment. Their 20 plus years of experience, incredibly dedicated staff, specialized attention to each individual and their choice of location in rural Montana has created a truly unique environment and opportunity for struggling teens to SLOW DOWN, evaluate the choices they are making, (ideally begin to understand why) , learn effective coping skills, to discover the reality that they themselves hold the key to creating a life worth living. Turning Winds is a co-ed facility; however, the boys and girls are kept primarily separated. Turning Winds is also a highly reputable therapeutic boarding school with a fantastic credit recovery program to help struggling teens get things academically back on track. Turning Winds works with the entire family unit to help untangle dysfunctional patterns, behaviors and relationships, teach effective communication skills, and provide the time and space for real healing to occur for the whole family. It is so hard to let go, accept our own powerlessness over our children’s behaviors or diagnosis, and accept the help we need as a family. Turning Winds is the place that will hold space for all your concerns, connect with your child in a real and lasting way, and help guide the whole family into a healthier way of living regardless of the struggles and challenges that make up our lives.

My son has been struggling for years with depression, anxiety, and unhealthy online relationships. As a parent, I felt helpless watching him withdraw from family, fail in school, and lose hope. Sending him to Turning Winds was the hardest decision I've made but it was also the best one.
From day one, the staff surrounded him with compassion, structure, and genuine care. His therapist has been a true blessing-a strong, positive male role model who helped him understand his behaviors and rebuild his confidence. The teachers, nurses, and other staff completely transformed his life. He's now thriving in school, confident, and reconnecting with family. I'll forever be grateful to Turning Winds for helping my son find hope and happiness again. I can't thank them enough for their dedication, communication, and belief in their students. They truly care about saving lives and helping families heal.

Additional levels of care offered inc | Treatments Programs Payment Options | When I was 24, my addiction to prescription medication had spun wildly out of control. So much so that I crashed my step fathers car I was borrowing into a lake and don’t remember a single bit of it. The next day, sitting in a jail cell, I told myself I had had enough. I have a friend that had gone to WTC so I called them first without even trying anywhere else and immediately knew this was the place for me. WTC and the counselors/staff that work there without a doubt saved my life. This place is fantastic, but don’t be fooled. If you go here, expect to work. It’s not sit around and watch tv rehab, you’re expected to do certain things and act certain ways. It sounds hard I know, but I promise you if you’re serious about getting help for yourself, even if you’re being forced by your parents to do this, please give WTC a chance. The work pays off 10 fold.

I attended WTC 3 years and 5 months ago, my first time trying out the sobriety aspect. This place saved my life and truly push me to change into the better person I am now. If I could comment on other people’s 1 star reviews. I would say. It sounds like those people were not willing to get sober. Making up excuses to make it sound like it wasn’t everything that it was cut out to be. Especially co dependent parents who comment saying not to send there parents to a place that will eventually help their kids out in the long run. All in all if you want to change your life. Go here, if you don’t. Then you truly haven’t hit your bottom in life.
I work in recovery now. Due to this program, my life has changed for the better and I have everything I could ever want to keep me happy in this life.

If i could give this place a negative review i would.
So now im here to tell you all.
this place sucks.
They are so under staff thats it’s illegal.
We are suppose to have a certain amount of staff working at all times and we get excited when we have 3 staff working ,we always have 1 staff for both houses, when we are supposed to have at least 2 for each house at all times incase something happens. But we never do and always understaff and always have to call around and steal other staff from other places. They even have new staff that isnt trained on cpi, cpr, or med trained working over nights at the houses. THAT IS NOT SAFE! They will hire any one and everyone. And half the staff quits. (Staff always argues on who is getting the calm/easier house for the night)
Most of the residents do not get treated properly and staff like to pick favorites.
Ants/mice everywhere. Not safe!

my daughter had a horrible time here. I didn't realize that she was not allowed to say certain things on family calls, so I believed everything she told me. I was not aware that she was somewhat 'scripted' and could not tell me how she actually felt in that program. It is absolutely atrocious that this company has paid employees to talk to parents out of pulling their children out of the program. My child is currently suffering severe trauma from the lack of professionalism and care for the mentally ill. Most of the lower class staff were amazing and connected well with the residents - apart from the one guy with the hat and earrings and beard who worked in stable with my daughter. The lower class staff seemingly only stayed at the job because of their care for the residents, however, the upper management was horrible and treated kids like prisoners. Don't waste your money on going here, spend your money elsewhere in a place your kid gets true love and care.

Specialty rehab programs at AWARE include ag | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I'd give this program less than one star if I could. As a student who's been in this program for over 6 years for substance abuse and mental health issues I've been very disappointed and discouraged by the lack of respect and consideration, the emotional and mental abuse of myself and other students. The mentors they hire are condescending usually just sitting on the couch in students houses on their phone. They don't interact or provide any positive influence. Every house I've been at is a depressing environment, I've been back since October and literally have been doing nothing! If your lucky you'll be watching TV while at home, they force labor to earn food money doing ridiculous tasks at the farm, they force medications that aren't necessary or helpful at all, we can't do much in the community because it all has to be scheduled and approved. I know I've been denied any opportunity of experiencing a independent life, including finding employment, and even going to NA meetings in the community or meeting any friends or socializing naturally ever. This program is a scam, it's demoralizing and I know first handedly that the info you'll be provided as a parent about your student here is mostly lies, and deciet. I've known many mentors that have been very sketchy, or just awkward in so many ways. They've had to hire inexperienced mentors I suppose and have a very short turn over rate for staff. I've felt like this program has changed since I've been in it, I joined in 2014 left and came back several times due to unfortunate circumstances but I know ive gained nothing from it. It's been a depressing and uncomfortable cycle for me. I would not recommend it, you'll be wasting money, be told lies to keep you paying and you'll be putting your children in an unrealistic and unhealthy living situation that will ultimately make them more unstable. I think I could speak for many of the students I've known and say don't even consider this program!
