There is a new doctor at the VA Medical Clinic in Brownwood, and he is amazing! He asked questions and actually listened to my answers. When I asked questions, he answered. He spent time explaining things. I sure hope this is a turning point to upgrade this clinic that has gotten so many bad reviews due to the disrespectful and uncaring attitudes of some of the front line personnel. I actually felt like I was heard and respected. Very good doctor's appointment this year! I am impressed and grateful.

But I was ready for a change, and ADACCV helped me get my head on shoulders in order to take the steps for when returning to the “real world”. My name is Brandon L. Phillips.I had been through 4 previous rehabs with a still ongoing heavy cocaine addiction that had landed me on the streets and dumpster diving and stealing to support my habit. I was previously a prominent oilfield business owner of String-Up Trucks Inc. At one time I had it all...what I had become upon entry to JOURNEY RECOVERY CENTER WAS A SPIRITUALLY AND MENTALLY DEAD SOUL, 127 lbs. , FIGHTING TO SAVE MY PHYSICAL LIFE. WELCOMED INTO A CLEAN AND RESPECTFUL RECOVERY ENVIRONMENT, I WAS WELCOMED WITH UNDERSTANDING AND OPEN ARMS TO ALL THE STAFF. MEMBERS INCLUDED COUNSELORS TANISHA, JAMES, SONIA, CASE WORKER BONNIE😁 AND OTHER STAFF KEVIN, MIKE,..EVEN KITCHEN STAFF AND CEO ERIC WERE THERE TO BUILD US UP. AND THE INFAMOUS LEROY...A MAN YOU CANT HELP BUT CROSS PATHS WITH, WERE ALL AN INSPIRATION AND SUPPORTIVE THROUGHOUT THE RECOVERY PROCESS.
SOMETHING STUCK TRUE AND FIRM..I AM TRULY GRATEFUL FOR THE LECTURES, CLASSES, PARTICIPATION, MEETINGS, AND LOVING ENVIRONMENT THAT HAS BROUGHT ME BACK FROM A TRULY HOPELESS STATE OF MIND, BODY AND SPIRIT. I AM 172 LBS TODAY AND OF SANE MIND AND TOOK THE SUGGESTIONS OF STAFF AND SPONSOR TO ENTER AND LIVE AT A SOBER LIVING FACILITY. LUCKLY BEING REINSTATED ON PROBATION AND MISSING A PRISON TERM, I MUST REMAIN IN ECTOR COUNTY FOR A TIME PERIOD UNKNOWN. MY HEART AND PASSION BELONGS TO JOURNEY RECOVERY CENTER AND THE RECOVERY COMMUNITY OF SAN ANGELO. A SPECIAL THANKS TO A FRIEND FOREVER JOEY AND MY SPONSOR NAMED JUSTION.IM IN JOYOUS TEARS THAT I AM YET ANOTHER MIRACLE ...A CLEAN ADDICT. MY CONCIOUS CONTACT WITH GOD IS BACK, MY HEALTH IS BEING SLOWLY RESTORED, AND JUST FOR TODAY.." I WILL BE UNAFRAID, MY THOUGHTS WILL BE ON MY NEW ASSOCIATIONS, PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT USING AND WHO HAVE FOUND A NEW WAY OF LIFE. SO LONG AS I FOLLOW THAT WAY, I HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR.
I STILL HAVE ALL MY MARBLES INTACT...LEARN WHAT THIS MEANS BY BECOME AN ALUMNI IN RECOVERY BY GRADUATING FROM A RECOVERY CENTER THAT WILL CHANGE THE DIRECTION YOUR LIFE IS HEADED. WALK IN FAITH..NOT FEAR AND SEE WHAT MANIFESTS FOR YOU. GOD BLESS THOSE STILL SUFFERING IN ADDICTION!!!

Stephenville, TX | Summer Sky is a drug and alcohol rehab facility located in Stephenville, Texas. They’re a private company that treats adults and adolescents for substance and alcohol use disorder. They provide evidence based therapy as well as spiritual treatment. They accept credit card payments. All clients have a full evaluation upon entering Summer Sky. Yo | Treatments Programs Payment Options | In 2011 I went through treatment twice in one summer. The 1st time I completed it but wasn't committed and was back the next month. The 2nd time I was all in and worked the program to the fullest. I was clean for 12 years. I also had 3 family members who attended the treatment center and were a success. This place was awesome. However, after 12 years, I recently had a 2 yr relapse and decided I needed help. I knew the place to go. The only problem is I called and called and called and any number I could find apparently was not Summer Sky or it appeared it no longer existed (even through Facebook). This was so disappointing. I chose a different place closer to home and left early during the detox phase because I needed the structure that Summer Sky provided at that time. Not sure what is going on but if there is a next time for me, I sure hope there is a better way to contact them.

First and foremost, the kitchen is the star of the show here. You come for a life change, but you really stay for the food and for the kitchen manager, Andrea, who I call Ms. Drea. It’s amazing to see how much influence she has over the community and how positive she is every single day. No matter what, she sees the good in everyone. There is nothing you can say that will shake her kindness or her belief in people. She truly has a place in heaven.
The operations manager, Tara, is extremely involved. She is kind, but firm when she needs to be, which makes her a great leader. She has an open door policy, and if you ever have an issue, you can walk straight into her office and she will take it seriously, no matter how small it may seem. She actually does something about it. She keeps the place well stocked. There is never a shortage of snacks, and she even asks clients what they want and makes sure it’s there. She is always busy, but she will stop what she’s doing to give you her full attention. That speaks volumes.
Haley, one of the main counselors, runs extremely structured and organized groups. She makes sure every single person has the opportunity to share and that everyone is heard. She listens carefully and responds thoughtfully, whether someone is on topic or not. Her groups feel safe, comfortable, and respectful. You genuinely learn things about yourself that you never expected to learn. She creates an environment where people can actually open up.
Shad and Jordan are also excellent counselors. Jordan is very intelligent and clearly cares deeply about the clients. He openly expresses that he cares, and you can feel that sincerity. Shad brings a tremendous amount of experience, and if you ever want to dive deep into a topic and really understand it, he’s the person to talk to.
Vance is a really cool guy who gets along with everyone. He speaks to you like a human being and treats you with respect. He participates, engages, and genuinely seems to love what he does. He helps make the environment feel welcoming and real.
If I had to mention one downside, it would be the breakfast. While they do provide cereal and options in the morning, it’s not always a well balanced breakfast, and it would be nice to have more consistent protein options. Something simple like microwavable breakfast sandwiches would make a big difference.
Other than that, this place is incredible. The staff is kind, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping people rebuild their lives. They provide real resources, including help with housing and funding, and they don’t just send you back out into the world without support. They help guide you forward.
If you are serious about changing your life, Serenity House can absolutely give you a new mindset and the tools you need to move forward. Highly recommended

One thing I like about them is how they focus on mental health issues that commonly affect military me | Treatments Programs Payment Options | I spent six weeks at this facility, and I can honestly say it was one of the most important and helpful experiences I’ve ever had for my mental health. From the very first day, I felt welcomed and supported. The environment itself is comfortable and structured. There are FREE snacks available, calm spaces, and a sense of safety that allows you to focus on healing.
The program is thoughtfully designed. There are group mental health classes and process group that give you practical tools and techniques to deal with trauma and everyday struggles. On top of that, you get individual weekly individual therapy sessions and weekly meetings with a psychiatrist, so your care feels very personalized. The group therapies were especially meaningful for me — they don’t just teach coping skills, they also help patients support one another, creating a space where you don’t feel alone in your journey.
What made the biggest difference for me were the people. Ms. Serenity and Ms. Kamiya are incredible therapists who bring warmth, patience, and real insight into every session. Nurse Amy is kind and attentive, always making sure patients are cared for. If you need laughter and giggle therapy, she is the one for it!
Therapist Mark from San Antonio added a perspective and level of support that I’ll carry with me long after leaving. Each of them played a role in helping me feel understood and encouraged to grow. Also, Jesse from the STS program in San Antonio was very helpful in taking our minds off everything (wish that could happen more). And although I didn't get much time with her, Ms. Vanessa from San Antio was also very kind and professional.
This program is especially valuable for active duty military members, who make up most of the patient community. Having others around me who understood the unique challenges that come with military life made the experience even more impactful. There’s a strong sense of connection and understanding that you just don’t find everywhere.
One additional thought I had during my time here is how much music therapy and art therapy classes could further benefit this group. Many patients come from high-stress backgrounds where words don’t always feel like enough to process deep emotions. Creative outlets like music and art would provide new ways to express feelings, release tension, and build confidence. They could also encourage teamwork and bonding in ways that complement the existing therapies, giving patients even more tools to heal and grow.
After six weeks, I left Laurel Ridge with new tools, stronger confidence, Lower Anxiety, and a deeper sense of hope. I would absolutely recommend this facility to anyone looking for real healing, structure, and support. The staff and program truly go above and beyond to help you break out of trauma bubbles and move forward.
