Legacy Outdoor Adventures is a residential treatment center located in Loa, Utah. They treat men and women ages 18 to 40 for substance use disorders (SUD) and co-occurring mental health disorders. I felt extremely comfortable working under Mike Hinkle, Kyle, Bek, and Jake as directors. Jake was wicked smart and poetic, challenged people, Beks a fantastic listnener and lax human who I wish I got to work with more. Kyle is very in touch with reality and intelligent, great with boundaries. Mike Hinkle is one of the best humans at connection and compassion I’ve witnessed. Brody is a great guide too, especially at building relationships, true role model human. Ted as well, that guy has a ton of experience and really enjoyed my week with him and Bek. I had some very difficult challenges before I made the tough decision to leave back to Arizona and felt loved and supported by all of them. I’ll certainly miss interacting with these stand out people.

I had the opportunity to attend Juniper Canyon when I was struggling with addiction and mental health challenges, and it was truly a lifechanging experience. This program is unlike any traditional treatment center. It pushed me in ways I had never experienced before, and because of that, I was able to face feelings and emotions that I had always managed to hide in other programs. Juniper Canyon created a safe and supportive environment where I could begin working through things that had been buried for a long time. Even though I wasn’t able to complete the entire program, the staff made sure I was cared for. They didn’t just let me go or leave me hanging they went above and beyond to transition me safely and lovingly into another program because of some personal things I was going through. They took the time and effort, even over several days, to make sure I got where I needed to be. I also continue to stay connected by showing up to alumni events, which have given me opportunities I never imagined like canyoneering, rock climbing, skiing, and building lifelong connections with amazing people after treatment. It was truly the beginning of a lifelong transition and recovery for me, and I am deeply grateful for what I learned and experienced at Juniper Canyon. It was one of the first places that truly challenged me while also showing me compassion and care. It was the stepping stone that I needed at that time

Juniper Canyon changed my life. I was a client 3 years ago; a girl who felt broken, with no purpose or direction in life, and no will to live. I found myself in the deserts and felt the magic of this program in every fiber of my being. I love being alive and calling myself a child of this land. I owe it all to my guides, therapists, and all clinical staff. The impact was so great that I am now a guide walking with others in their process!

Located in the southwestern corner of Utah, in the small town of Virgin, is the Liahona Treatment Center. When I sent my Godson to Liahona Academy, it was the hardest decision that I ever made. He has recently graduated, and I now know that it was also the best decision that I ever made. He struggled in the beginning, but once he finally understood that I only wanted him to become a better person, he started making changes. He is now ahead in school, has great grades, and an excellent relationship with anyone that he wants to have a relationship with. I can guarantee that if you sent your son here and you give him time to figure it out, he eventually will, and you will never regret your decision. My Godson came out of Liahona academy as a completely transformed man. He was a child with all kinds of manipulative “techniques”. Now he is a reborn man, a man who is honest and sincere, a man who you can count on to be a positive leader and have a great attitude. I am grateful for all the staff at Liahona academy, and especially for his therapist Benjamin Haslam, the program director, Richard May, and the case manager, Beverly Carayas. THANK YOU 🙏🏻

I was sent to Liahona Academy on September 20, 2019. I graduated on May 7, 2021. This placed changed my life. If I was not sent here, I would be either dead, homeless, or in jail. I was skipping school nearly every day and my grades were terrible. My relationship with my parents was terrible. I was smoking weed almost every day. I dreaded every aspect of my life. Now, I am a year ahead of my regular grade, with a GPA of 3.78. My relationship with my parents is fantastic. I don’t ever want to go back to my old life. I love this new life. I recommend that any parent who is struggling with their teen to send them here. It will be a very hard decision, but I can 100% guarantee that it will be worth it. Haris Husetic

Liahona was our last hope and nothing short of a miracle for saving my son’s life. The Liahona approach allows customized care based on timing of each boy’s willingness to embrace the opportunity for real, lasting change. The Owner Clay along with Rich, Bear and Beverly were wonderful to work with! The Liahona Virgin campus team have built an amazing program with a successful track record and long-term results at treating the whole person, not just the symptoms of bad behavior/substance abuse, but dares to dig deeper uncovering root causes of the problems. My son was a complex case as he exhibited erratic and dangerous behavior along with lingering effects of substance abuse which could have ended his life on multiple occasions prior to admittance. The highly-structured environment with set “wake” and “lights-out” times, allows the boys to get into a healthy, balanced and predictable schedule resulting in a solid foundation to become the best versions of themselves and make the most of the program. The well-regulated agenda culminates dependable sleep patterns, individual and group therapy, chores, healthy and consistent meals, with time built-in for exercise, school, homework, faith (of any kind or none at all), personal growth, journaling and reading. Based on progress, working the program and meeting milestones, the boys can earn group outings that may include volunteering a chance to give back to the community, or a fun outing like bowling, hiking or trip to the lake, etc. The staff at the Virgin facility were simply amazing! I can’t thank Rich (Program Director) and Bear (our son’s Therapist) enough for their vision and “lead by example” approach to earn credibility, respect and have such a positive power of influence over the most challenging of behaviors. Bear was very honest that our son was one of the more complex cases he had seen and that he wasn’t sure if Liahona would be the “best fit” for him. Bear was absolutely remarkable in treating my son, from day 1, as a fully 100% capable individual and he saw through the façade of substance psychosis, anger, low self-esteem, manipulative and self-centered behavior. The value of the Liahona program incorporates a loving and supportive environment, patiently allowing each boy to come to their own realization and choose to begin the journey-cycle of initiating progress, resulting in gaining confidence, motivating them to work harder, embracing the courage to face adversity and proving to themselves they are capable of setting goals and exceeding expectations. The Liahona program results in building confidence, fueling motivation for more continued growth and is the recipe for achieving not only success in Liahona but prepares each boy for a successful life outside of Liahona in the real world. My son entered Liahona as a troubled boy and graduated the program as a confident young man, eager to work hard, face adversity, exceed every goal placed in front of him, fully equipped with the knowledge and desire to help others along the way. We couldn’t be more proud and are forever grateful to the incredible staff and program at Liahona for doing God’s work here on earth!

My experience with this particular facility has been nothing but a positive situation for me. The staff, all the way from the Director down to the office girls have been almost like a family to me. The compassion that I have been shown means so much to me & out of all the programs I have encountered, this one is by far the BEST. My councilor has also been a positive force in my life & really gone to bat for me. But most of all, although everyone remains very professional, they are all very caring & treat me with respect. Both of my children were adopted out of foster care and suffered early childhood trauma. This led to complicated attachment problems. My daughter in particular was at five different Residential programs prior to going to Sorenson Ranch. This program was by far the best program she attended. The Therapist and staff are very compassionate, and understand the complexities of attachment disorders. They provided the structure that my daughter needed to keep her safe and to help her develop skills to self regulate and manage her complicated emotional issues. I have to disagree with some of the latest post. I attended sorensons for a long period of time. Not only did I benefit from the expertise from the many qualified staff. I can tell you first hand that while I was there for 4 years, I did not experience any abuse. Quite the opposite actually, I finally found people who listened to me, people who showed me tough love. I truly believe that was the best thing to happen in my life and Im still in contact with the staff there and it’s been years. Alot of the staff there take a personal intrest in the students. I know I could call Grandma, Jill or Layne if I ever needed anything and they would help. All I can say some of the kids DONT want help.. or to change.. coming from a child whom suffered a lot of physical abuse before getting to the ranch, the consequences they issued like mucking stalls and doing workouts built my character and weren’t abusive, and I’m beyond grateful for this place.

After a hard decision, I sent my son to SRS in 2020, 4 years ago. It changed his life for the better. It took him 2 years, but he did it. Was he 100% different, no, probably 80%, it's a work in progress. Your entire life you will work on your skills with your mental illness and behaviors, but he definitely came home so much better then when he left our family. Life was so much better, and we were able to have a relationship that we haven't had before and the sibling were too. The therapist was fantastic. He even did family therapy with one of the siblings at home that was having the most trouble with my son. He had a genuine interest in the entire family and having them be able to all work together. The entire staff at Sorenson's was wonderful and caring. His case manager would call weekly and update me with what was going on. They made sure he always had doctor and dentist appointments made when needed. If he was ever hurt, they would notify me and take him to the doctors. His favorite things were the campouts and the horses. Yes, you did have to earn them through your levels, which meant you needed to do your work and stay on task with your program. And if you weren't or got in trouble, you lost your points, and you started working on yourself again to earn them back. Things are a privilege and you learn that and you work for them. Yes there we're some people that may have been rougher than they needed to be with the kids but the kids figured out, don't misbehave, Get yourself in gear. My son made great friends while he was there. He even moved back and went to college in the area and was room mates with one of them. He also went back and wanted to work there to help the kids out, but wasn't old enough. Unfortunately almost a year after he graduated he was killed in a car accident. Some of the boys (friends) from the school came to his service, I didn't even know about them, and they shared wonderful stories about their experiences at the school with me. Some of them check in with me online just to see how I'm doing. There's a lot more good things that came out of the school then bad I can say. I highly recommend Sorensons Ranch School.

As a parent I would highly recommend this program. Outstanding, caring staff who truly change lives for the better. The small program size means the girls all really work together as a team to help each other. The love and support they have for each other and for their staff is truly awe inspiring. I suspect the few negative reviews are mostly from girls who either quit the program prematurely, were not interested in getting help (and thus would have criticized any similar program), or thought this was a horse camp rather than a therapeutic program that uses horses to help the girls learn about themselves.

I came to Kolob when I was 7 months away from being 18 years old, I was failing high school, unmotivated, and at odds with my family and myself. Kolob Canyon RTC allowed me to recognize my worth, what I can do, and have the tools to keep on keepin' on. I have since then graduated, sold cars (top salesmen every month on the job), gotten A's my first semester of college, and lived well with the people that mean most to me, my lovely family. It is never easy to admit that you need more help with your child and their needs than what you can offer, just ask my mom. But I do know that this program and the staff will change your child's life and your family dynamic. As a student a lot is asked of you unlike a lot of treatment places, but that makes it known that you are capable of a lot. And now I am onto things like managing a store and being a full time student at age 19. 2 years ago I didn't even want to live. I am so grateful for Maren (my therapist at Kolob) and Amanda who could crack a joke harder than anyone. Everyone here is wonderful. Just so blessed.

I went to Wingate Wilderness Therapy when I was 15 after my mom died and I wasn't doing well. I found this place and asked my dad to send me. I didn't wish death upon myself anymore, i didn't want to hurt other people who did me wrong, I just wanted to start over and be successful in life (and I am). I will never forget the miracle that Wingate helped facilitate. The people who are posting bad reviews did not go to Wingate, they went somewhere else that probably did abuse them. Lava offers AA, addictions group, a safe environment, healthy boundaries with a co-ed environment, fun and appropriate activities, and an over-all great experience. Back2Basics Outdoor Adventure Therapy is a drug and alcohol rehab in Flagstaff, Arizona. This facility offers residential addiction treatment and sober living for adult men aged 18 through 35. This Back2Basics residential program provides a combination of counseling, addiction treatment, and outdoor recreation activities. Residents engage in hands-
Back2Basics saved my life and helped me to become my old self again. When I showed up I was scared, sad, and going through withdrawals. The staff were so understanding and empathetic and taught me coping strategies to regulate myself and get through the hard part while reassuring me that I was right where I needed to be. I was referred to Back2Basics by a family friend who had a loved one go through the program and they informed me of its great success and spoke very highly of it; furthermore I spoke with a lot of the staff on the phone before arriving, many of whom have been through the Back2Basics program and have rebuilt their lives thanks to its efficacy. Back2Basics is not like other treatment programs, it consists of a holistic treatment plan to heal clients emotionally, physically, and spiritually. One aspect of Back2Basics I did not foresee but found incredibly beneficial was its focus on restructuring my preoccupation with short-term reward by separating me from my phone and limiting access to technology. Because of this, I had to relearn how to sit with my own thoughts without distraction, and how to pass the time in healthy and engaging ways (reading books, playing guitar, socializing with other clients, playing games, meditating, working out). With a large kitchen and fresh groceries every week, us clients were able to prepare meals with fresh protein and produce, which meant proper nutrition for a healthy body. Ian, Back2Basics' own culinary specialist, would come to the property multiple times a week to cook great dinners with us and give us nutrition and fitness advice. Back2Basics also brought us to the gym every day so we could improve our fitness and undo the damage of addiction. I left the program leaner, stronger, and healthier. One of the highlights of Back2Basics was our weekends. With two knowledgeable outdoor guides, Andrew and Colin, we spent every weekend out in nature: hiking, swimming, camping, and exploring. Discovering all the beauty of Arizona while bonding with the other clients was pivotal to my recovery, and Back2Basics prepares you for all this with excellent equipment that you get to keep upon program completion. When we weren't at the gym or on outdoor adventures, the week was structured with plenty of therapy and groups to focus on recovery and healing. HUGE shoutout to Bethany, Natalie, and Keelyn, our program clinicians, who showed up everyday to help us clients heal and resolve our trauma. I worked with Bethany specifically doing one-on-one therapy; she helped me focus on and heal trauma I've been struggling with for decades and met me with a level of empathy and compassion that was crucial for me in my recovery. Natalie led fantastic groups that allowed me and other clients to discuss our struggles with one another and work together on solutions. Keelyn led mindfulness exercises to help us develop keen awareness of our bodies and our needs while giving excellent clinical perspectives and solutions. Thanks to all of their expertise I was able to walk away from the program with more self-assuredness, peace, and confidence that I could handle life's stresses on my own out in the real world. Between all these activities our house managers, Cade, Reed, Ian, Dave, Brady, and Manny, connected with us and helped us navigate the day-to-day struggles by providing excellent leadership and friendship. The staff at Back2Basics made me feel truly cared for, and I am so grateful that I got to be surrounded by such kind and authentic people during my stay. Roy, the founder of Back2Basics, is an all-around stand up human. He always checked on us guys, and I always felt like he was genuinely interested in each and every one of our recoveries. Special thanks also to Suzie for her friendly demeanor and conversation while on-site, it was always nice chatting with you while we were all cooking in the kitchen. I would enthusiastically recommend this program to anyone struggling with addiction, and have made connections that have changed me fundamentally and made my life better. Thank you!

As a nurse and professional in the behavioral health field, I have been deeply impressed by the work being done at Back 2 Basics. The program provides young men with a rare combination of opportunities—healing, practical life skills, and the stability that is often missing in their lives. What stands out most is the balance between clinical care and real-world development. Back 2 Basics doesn’t just focus on treatment—it empowers clients to learn accountability, independence, and the skills they’ll need to succeed long after they leave the program. Watching men grow in confidence as they take ownership of their recovery and build a foundation for the future is incredibly inspiring. For families and professionals alike, it’s reassuring to know there is a program that treats people with dignity, structure, and compassion. Back 2 Basics is giving young men more than recovery—it’s giving them the tools and support to rebuild their lives.

As someone who works daily with men struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders, I refer clients to Back2Basics with full confidence. This program isn’t just another treatment center—it’s a transformational environment rooted in real clinical expertise, integrity, and real-life skill building. From the start, Back2Basics impresses with its balance of evidence-based clinical care and holistic healing. Their residential program combines individual therapy, group work, dual diagnosis support, and trauma-informed care—all delivered by a deeply capable team led by seasoned clinical leadership. Their emphasis on authentic, non-institutional connection ensures clients feel seen and heard. One of the most unique strengths of Back2Basics is their integration of outdoor adventure and real-world life skills—hiking, backpacking, cooking, budgeting, vocational guidance. These components aren’t optional add-ons; they are central to helping young men not just stay sober but build resilience, confidence, and self-reliance. Family involvement is another area where Back2Basics excels. As a referrer, I’ve seen how keeping loved ones educated, engaged, and part of the recovery journey reduces anxiety for everyone involved, helps with accountability, and contributes to sustained outcomes. Finally, the commitment to continuity—transitioning into sober living, aftercare, relapse prevention—is vital. Too many programs fall off at discharge; Back2Basics makes sure the gains made during treatment translate into daily life. In short: as a professional who refers clients, I consider Back2Basics to be a top choice for young men who need more than just detox or short-term support. They deliver a full rehabilitation journey designed for lasting change. 5 stars without hesitation.

My son is currently awaiting transport to check in at Cirque Lodge, later today. Forget about it! Every single person I've spoken with (Cara, Tyson, Emily, Cherney, and Natalia - in chronological order of speaking with) have been compassionate, skilled, efficient, and any other glowing words one might use to compliment a fellow human being. I am at a failure to adequately express my gratitude for Cirque Lodge for all they have already done to ensure that my son can receive the exemplary care I know that they provide. If you have addiction issues I can safely say this qualifies as: Not to be missed ♾️✨🪷✨♾️

Wow, what an amazing time I have had! Flying in from North Carolina, MK, Sean and Becca were really helpful and respectful of my needs for sobriety. MK, guided me through Admissions and played a key part during my time at Pinnacle. I was worried at first that this facility was just like any other rehabs. Just a common money grab, but to my surprise Pinnacle really wants the best for you. After coming from NextStep Detox, I was greeted by Anthony and Sean! They gave me a great orientation and the clients gave me a warm welcome! Becca and Sean over saw our programming and were very helpful with personal development and were very attentive regarding outside needs during treatment. If I needed to see my legal team or doctors, etc. Becca and Sean would take took time out of their schedule to assist me. The support staff are very friendly, they treated me like I was their best friend. If I got out of line the support staff would help correct me in a way that wasn’t punitive. Anthony and Brooke are both in recovery and so is most staff, they really cared about your sobriety, and will guide you through recovery. The food scene is amazing, nutritious and very healthy. Chef Ed is off the chart, a great chef. I’m not a salmon fan, but he made me a delicious meal to substitute for Salmon! Chef Ed picks fresh foods, so nothing is old or boring! The Interns, and therapists really want to see you be successful. My therapist Julie has gone above and beyond when it came to help my mental health. Her approach to mental health is really awe inspiring. I really appreciate Cassie, Cory and Londyn help as well! The activities are made to help you feel comfortable while working on yourself. Troy, MK, Sean and Becca have built a truly remarkable treatment facility. From Mental Health treatment, to the recreational activities, their passion to help clients are more than I expected. I’m forever grateful to the love and caring team members at Pinnacle for my journey through Sobriety. If you’re looking for mental health care, please reach out to Pinnacle. I would not have been able to sober without the support of some amazing friends whom I met in a lovely treatment center! Also a shoutout to Kourntey, Mary, Londyn, Brooke, Anthony, Jasmine, Janae and many more!

Pinnacle Recover is amazing. All of the staff go over the top to meet your expectations. The program gives you everything you need to achieve your goals and gives you all the tools you need to help you in recovery. The food is outstanding, Chef Ed is so compassionate about his cooking. I've never had a well balanced diet as good as it was at Pinnacle. The activities you get to enjoy are so much fun. Sober softball, hiking, bowling, batting cages, ice baths, open mic night are some of my favorites. The facility is more than adequate, its an amazing house that is filled with comfort. Overall, Pinnacle has changed my life in so many positive ways. I feel as if my life is starting over and I get the opportunity to be happy again. Shout out to Katie my therapist for all the help and knowledge she has given me. I'm ready to go out into the world and face all the challenges it brings head on. Thank you Pinnacle!!

Maple Mountain Recovery in Utah completely exceeded my expectations. From day one, their team created a highly personalized treatment plan tailored just for me—every session felt tailored to my needs. What really sets them apart is the way they seamlessly blend healing with genuine care and enjoyable experiences. Between therapy sessions, I had options like yoga, cold plunges in nature, art therapy, acupuncture, and many therapeutic adventures. It felt like real recovery, not just treatment. The staff is amazingly attentive—every single team member knew my name, remembered my goals, and checked in regularly to see how I was doing. They made sure I felt supported 100% of the time and built an environment that was both professional and warm. If you’re looking for a recovery center that cares deeply, customizes your journey, and injects a dose of fun and relaxation into the process—Maple Mountain Recovery is it. Highly recommend!
