Absolutely horrible place they do not care about the people they see shouldn't be open. This place should be shut down for endangerment. Taking medicine from people who have been on it for 30+ years what has to be wrong in your brain to do that to people. Everyone who works there is absolutely sick and mental.

Our teenage son struggles with mental health issues. We have tried a number of programs hoping to get him the help and support he needs. One of the facilities/programs we enrolled in was Laurel Oakes in Dothan, Alabama. This facility was like no other we experienced. Every staff member we encountered was courteous, caring and always willing to go above and beyond for our child. This Facilities’ culture is created and carried forward by the Facility CEO, Jeanette J. Jeanette was and remains extremely accessible, responsive, supportive, and always willing to go above and beyond. After our son left the program, he wanted to remain in contact with Jeanette. Without hesitation, she continued to support and communicate with our son. Jeanette not only remained in contact with our son after he left Laurel Oakes, but she was also always willing to speak to us about his current challenges and continued care. You couldn't ask for a better steward to oversee your child's care. As I said, all of the staff went above and beyond always. Our son gravitated towards one staff member in particular, a gentleman known to the kids as Sarge because of his prior military service. Sarge was always a touchstone for our son. Sarge also took time out from his day to speak to our son after he left the program. I am sorry if your family finds yourself having to consider such programs for your child. That's said, if you do, I can highly recommend Jeanette and her team at Laurel Oakes.

I am 33 now, but as a child I was repeatedly placed in this facility — then called Ramsey, later Laurel Oaks — from around age 7 to 13 because my unstable mother tried to claim I was mentally insane for a government check. This place destroyed my childhood and left me with lifelong trauma: staff physically abused me by slamming me into walls, pinning me down with full force, even breaking kids’ legs. There was no safety in our rooms; children were beaten, molested, or worse by other kids with no supervision. They wouldn’t let me call my family, leaving me isolated and terrified for months. Instead of helping, this place gave me severe PTSD and anxiety I still battle today, after over a decade of therapy. Which ironically is the only thing i suffer from. If your child is struggling, please do not send them here — it will only make everything worse. This was every child’s worst nightmare, and I still live with the scars.

I had always heard bad things about Pinewoods. Staying there helped save my life. In the WellStar hospitals, people have to wait three days to be sent out -- Pinewoods makes that easier, you don't have to go anywhere but Pinewoods. They are open 24/7 days a week. You also can bypass being treated like a barnyard animal, wearing scrubs and using a paper blanket to cover up with. If the nerves are bad with a Patient, the last thing they want to be is in an isolation cell, hear others screaming in the cell next door, and feel judged by the sitters and doctors. As long as you don't go out there and act foolish, (due to fear or anger) You are treated with kindness and respect. Thanks to Pinewoods Staff.

My recovery started here. Wonderful place. I came in with nothing but a hat and a dead cellphone, wearing only hospital paper clothes. The techs made sure I had clothes and shoes when they took me home and they helped me with a 30 day supply of medicine. I learned a lot in group therapy and they made it fun.
