HERO House of Kennesaw, Georgia, is a unique sober living/halfway home in that it serves college students. Adults who are currently in or exiting treatment can make use of the house’s clean living environment to find their bearings as they navigate recovery. Sober living homes like these don’t accept insurance since they don’t provide medical treatment, and instead, residents cover costs with rent.
Balancing Recovery & Education

Instead, founder Randy Haveson suggests students in recovery return in a limited capacity. Taking half a courseload, for example, leaves room for the challenges you might experience early on without having to worry about a full schedule of courses.
One Step on the Path
HERO House can serve as a bridge between treatment programs for those who pursue continuing care. Residents can participate in another provider’s outpatient program during their stay, or join a residential program afterward if they feel that’s what’s best for them.
At the end of the day, one of the biggest assets of this and similar programs is that they give collegiate-aged students time and space to really focus on themselves and think about what they want and need in the future.
