Their Crisis Line and support was seriously helpful in a time in my life where I needed it the most. I felt comfortable talking with the therapist and person over the phone. Wow! What a journey. Please take this seriously for those in addition or wanting to recover! I went here during covid season 2020 when I got my DUI. I was regretting it, didn't take it seriously, etc. I did my month time stay there. Went home continued with addiction cause I still didn't care. After mother's day weekend on 05.09.22 was my first day of sobriety. I'm still sober to this day. Let me tell you what, I've had the most fantastic experiences and time of my life sober! Looking back, wish I'd took things seriously. I even got off probation this year in June. I wasn't supposed to get off until November next year 2024. I mean God's work is honestly a blessing and you definitely feel him working thru you. I remember starting out here at this place, they said "higher power" and I'm like naw, I don't got that. Not even my kids. Oh yeah, God is my highest power! This place is amazing! Trust me! Great staff, food, location, etc! Just please get help! It's not worth your life ending on bad terms! I will never go back to that life style. Sobriety is just the coolest 😎 Lord the energy you have, stability, motivation, passion to keep striving and going in life! Yes!! No more laziness! It's just nice! Thank to this place and the DUI was a huge lesson I needed to kick my rear end into gear! Let's keep going! SOBRIETY ROCKS! SOBRIETY IS THE COOLEST 😎

I have had the luxury of meeting 2 of the therapist here, Amanda and Val. Both have helped me significantly. Its hard to find a good therapist and when you do its worth the effort. I have been working with Val for a little while and we have a great connection. I feel like Im getting the help I desperately needed and was not able to find elsewhere. I highly recommend this place. When it comes to therapy in general, finding a good fit is up to the individual and it may vary person to person. I feel blessed to have 2 for 2 at this place.

I was court ordered to this facility in April of 1997. I spent my first year as a teenager here and was discharged in May of 1998. Once I began to follow the program my life got easier. There were plenty of horrible moments while I was here though. Any small disobedience would knock you down to level 0 and you were forced to sit in a 6' by 6' box in the lower level of the house for an hour. If you didn't calm down or were disrespectful to the staff your hour on level 0 could turn into several hours of isolation. I spent many hours in the box at a time banging my head against the wall. Eventually I learned to be calm when I got knocked down to level 0 and did my hour of time. In order to get back to the general population you had to write an essay on the behavior that got you put on level 0. Writing was a daily task that I had to complete. I had to think about situations daily where I acted out and write about it. They used thinking errors and tactics to make you think about how you interact with others. I had to goals each day to focus on certain thinking errors and tactics. My handwriting got really small and was perfect from my daily essays. Having to look at myself and my flaws so deeply at such a young age helped shape the person I am today. I was taught that my thoughts became feelings which became emotions and then actions. I had to control my emotions in order to act in a positive manner. I ended up getting to step 4 out 5 in the program before I was discharged. I remember only a handful of kids ever got to step 5. As you progress up the steps you got more privileges. This was a great incentive for me to start acting better. I do believe that there is some sort of brainwashing with having to write about your flaws daily. But this has made me extremely intelligent on how to interact with others and push situations to fit my narrative. As I moved up the steps I was able to transition to the public middle school. The long bus rides to and from school was the highlight of my day. I was able to escape the reality that I was living. I didn't have to think about what I did wrong in the moment and which thinking error I was going to write about. I was able to go on some outings and even a camping trip while I was there. I felt like the staff had my best interests in mind although I would lash out from time to time. My primary staff member Shad really helped me adjust to life at Bar None. He showed me how to be confident with myself and that I was a good person. I ended up becoming a leader of the house I was in even though I was younger than all the other residents. I showed self composure daily and really worked the program that was expected of me. Although I have many negative thoughts about this place; I know that it helped shape the man I am today. I live with integrity and I am a valuable part of my community. As an extremely troubled adolescent and then becoming a leader made me a much stronger person.This place was a challenge that I overcame and I am a better person because of it. I'm not sure how it has changed over the years. I think they had some good things going right for them in the 90's. My experience overall was uplifting but also a struggle at times. Mental and behavioral health will always be up to the individual to want the change.

Burkwood is an amazing place. Their staff truly care and are so rich of information to share about addiction, recovery, and real life. They’re are meant for their jobs. I’ve learned so much while I was there. I valued the daily book we filled out on our own, fully engaging and eye opening. I was lucky to have Pete as my counselor. His approach was thorough and helpful. My only complaint is that it was crowded there and access to phones, bathrooms, and laundry was a bit tricky but maybe that will change at some point. Thank you Burkwood!

My time at Burkwood was amazing, to say the least. The staff were great and it truly is up to you if you want this place to help you! Take what you can from it and be grateful. Reading some of these horrible reviews is crazy to me! It’s not a vacation - for a treatment center it’s pretty damn nice! The classes do get a little monotonous, but for the most part were engaging and helpful. My counselor Derek was the absolute best and the RAs Diane, William, Kristin, Aidan and Ashley were genuine and helpful. They are heavily rooted in AA which I thought I would hate at first, but if you’re just open-minded and listen to what speaks to you it’s not too shabby. They helped me set up IOP and sober living after and I’m enjoying the beginning of my sober life thus far. Thank you Burkwood ❤️

The Retreat saved my life. I relapsed after 6 years sober and found returning to the program extremely difficult. The way they helped me immerse myself back into the steps was exactly what I needed. This is the only methadone clinic I have ever been to, but I really like the nurses here and the staff is amazing. I got really sick one morning and they took really good care of me and nobody made a big deal of it. I love Bryant he is a great counselor - very thorough when we meet. Going to dose almost every morning can be a drag but they make it easy.

I’ve had a very good experience with Valhalla Place in Woodbury. One time the building had water damage and I had to wait like 2-3 hours at another clinic to get dosed. But that was a freak thing.
Valhalla has saved my life. I’ve never had an issue there that wasn’t my own doing.
Been coming for like 12 years and I just do not see any of the negatives that people have listed. It’s been only positive for me when I’m on the sober track. I’ve been clean for over 500 days now.

Beautiful facility with kind and helpful staff! The housing is set up in a convenient way to focus clients towards recovery. The second best thing was going to Hazelden.It's a beginning, it's not a solution. So don't fool yourself into thinking they will solve your problems. But I can honestly promise you, if you open yourself up and surrender all of your B.S..you can and will heal.I had suffered a stroke and was in a coma for 3 days before I admitted myself. If I would have continued to drink, I would not be typing this right now. I would be dead. Hazelden taught me how to live a healthy life again and gave me my life back. They addressed the poor coping skills that landed me there and gave me new ones.
I continue to have nothing but the best of experiences with the staff at the St Paul location. I am grateful to so many people, but I do want to mention the incredible nursing department. Diamond and Ian, I look forward to every time I see you guys! Consider yourself very lucky if you get Dr. Exo - she's amazing! Laurie was a mentor to me at center City, and a big part of my decision to stick with the program.
