From the day I arrived, the clinical team treated me like a person, not a case. The therapists were skilled, compassionate, and used approaches that actually matched what I needed. The residential house was beautiful the program was structured but never rigid—there was real space for individual work, group process, and learning how to live differently. The staff created a safe, respectful environment where it felt possible to be honest. What sets this place apart for me is the aftercare. A lot of programs do a good job while you’re there and then leave you on your own. Here, the transition was thoughtful and continuous. They helped me build a realistic plan, connected me with ongoing support, and stayed available. The alumni/aftercare community has been one of the most valuable parts of my recovery—consistent check-ins, practical guidance, and people who actually understand the long game. I’m not going to pretend recovery is easy or that any facility is perfect. But the combination of solid residential treatment and genuine, ongoing aftercare made a measurable difference in my ability to stay well. Challenges and struggles may be shared, but the first, second, and third order effects of said challenges and struggles will always be unique to the individual and their circle of family and friends. And my experience at this clinic, as well as with the community care resources outside of the clinic, have been nothing but positive and fruitful. Have there been hiccups and issues that needed communication and action taken to remedy? Of course. But the quality of care that I have received from the team here, the Wilmington team, and the community care team has been exemplary and without criticism. I am grateful to far too many people to list here, but I can say without hesitation that each and every team member here has treated me with respect, empathy, and concern for my well being. Again, I will reiterate that each veteran's situation is unique. I am a Group 1, 100% disabled veteran with 29 years of service in the U.S. Army as an Infantry Soldier. I enjoy the benefits of this priority group. Every veteran's service is beyond a written value, but veterans that fall into other priority groups may have to deal with longer wait times for appointments, have to pay co-pays, etc. This is the nature of the system, unfortunately. But priority levels and the according actions are necessary for this system to work. These good people have historically been underfunded and overworked. They do the best that they can for all of us. As a recommendation for my fellow veterans, I implore you to file claims for your likely worsening service-connected conditions and ailments. Stay the course and hold the line. If you are denied in the process, reapply. Work with a VSO that lights a fire on your behalf. Take advantage of all available resources provided by the VA. Many are free to you, needing only your participation to provide benefit. Stay the course. Regards to my brothers, sisters, and the teams that serve us now. All the staff was wonderful. I want to highlight the following people from each department because without the staff here I would have not exceled. In Client Care, Melanie and Jack took a vested interest in my recovery journey from start to finish. In nursing, Susan and Sierra were so sweet and were always there when I needed someone to listen and assisted me with anything I needed regarding my medication. Medical staff, Cindy was by far one of the best provider's I have ever met in a treatment setting. She was patient with me, addressed all my concerns and did not push any medication on me which was very much appreciated. Sabriya was an amazing recreational therapist and she found creative ways to bring me out of my shell and was always there when I needed someone to talk to. As far as facilitators, John and Michelle were absolutely top tier. The behavioral techs were amazing at the Haven. Bridget was wise beyond here years and became one of my main sounding boards during second shift. I also want to mention Angie, Tim, Cheena, and Zaahir who were instrumental in my recovery. I want to give a separate shout out to Amethyst who started working for the Haven during my stay. I was able to see her quickly adapt in her new role and how passionate she is to assist others, I can tell she has a drive for this and will most defiantly succeed. Last but certainly not least I want to recognize Rosie. She was the one who completed my intake. From our first interaction she promised my I was safe and she would be with me the whole way. Not only did she keep her promise but any time I panicked or had any concerns she was right there by my side. Even on her days off she checked in on me and let me know she was thinking of me and how I was doing in this brand new community. It's because of the dedication of these people and all the other staff that I was able to not only complete my treatment but also feel prepared and ready to tackle the real world, moving here to Jersey for a new start.
